enjoying this much more than I did as a teen, which is probably the last time I listened to the Doors (apart from their hits appearing in movies, shows, commercials, etc.). Some of it's still not really hitting for me though. Was never a fan of Alabama Song and it's still falling flat, for instance.
I'm nearly done and loving this album. Rock is decreasingly a genre I'm in the mood to listen to, but I can see this going into the rotation, for when the mood does strike.
Listened before?: Partially Oh boy, I have really disliked Muse on previous listens (though admittedly it's been over a decade since I gave them a go). Still not loving them. I've always found the singer's voice irritating, and that's still true. It comes off as primarily whiny to me, which I don't universally dislike in a vocalist. But Muse just doesn't do it for me.
Listened before?: No, only individual songs I enjoyed it! Particularly their jangly jam number, Embryonic Journey.
Listened before?: Yes, many times I love this album! But then who doesn't, I suppose.
Listened before?: No, never This music is mostly just passing me by, feels very background-y. This might be one I need to listen to a few times through to really hear. Could really barely get through this. It's completely fine, even enjoyable in places. I think I'm just not in the mood for punk this morning.
Listened before?: Bits and pieces, but no real familiarity Great, cinematic-feeling album. A bit uneven here and there but overall I enjoyed it.
Listened before?: No, actually! I have seen it on many a shirt though Moody and dark. I loved it, though it has a kind of "detached" quality to the vocals that doesn't always work for me. Made a compelling case for its place in the depressed teenager music pantheon.
Listened before?: Yes, but not regularly What can I say, familiarity breeds affection. Copious exposure to Nirvana over my lifetime has just made them sound good to me and I loved this listen, front to back.
Listened before?: No I love Music from the Big Pink but never listened to much beyond that album. I'm immediately loving this one, too.
Listened before?: Yes, incessantly from 2002 - 2004 A middle school and early high school staple for me. It's been a while since I've given the whole thing a listen-through though, curious to see if I'll have any new experiences with it! Still an immaculate album. Don't Look Back in Anger is probably still my favorite song off it, but really they're all 90s alt-rock gems.
Listened before?: No, I've never heard of this band Noisy and weird. So far I like it more than X, but maybe I'm just being obstinate--it sounds like garbage haha. I understand from browsing the other reviews that this is Nick Cave's first band, which I suppose checks out. Post-listening, this album goes hard but is functionally unlistenable. I read a scary news article about war this morning and found the first half of the album cathartic, as it helped me work through some mortality anxiety, but after that passed it looped back around to absolutely awful listening. Not sure how to rate that! A 1 star album from a sound standpoint, a 5 star album on its own terms. I guess that nets a 3?
Listened before?: No, never heard of these artists I love it. Beautiful, moving, relaxing. Will certainly be adding this to the rotation.
Listened before?: Yes! Wings is great! A milquetoast masterpiece of an album.
Listened before?: No, never heard of Fela Kuti Funky protest music. I loved it.
Listened before?: A little, on the radio in the 90s The sound was super familiar to me, even if I've never listened to this one all the way through. A great alt rock album.
Listened before?: No, never heard of them Very stripped down sound. About 1/3 of the way in and I've really liked the track "Do You Want New Wave or Do You Want the Truth" so far. Nice to hear explicitly anti-Nazi music right now.
Listened before?: No Pleasant!
Listened before?: Not all the way through, but definitely. These pieces are ubiquitous. Great! No notes.
