Beastie Boys
9.5/10
Considering I've only really listened to a few selected songs of the beastie boys before this I really enjoyed it - at no point did i want to skip or play something else (very rare for me).
You can tell they had fun making it and I had so much fun with all the samples (especially the Johny Cash right at the end of Hello Brooklyn, that was a great surprise). feel like i could spend days going through and pick new things out each listen.
Iconic, get it divas.

R.E.M.
7.5/10
I enjoyed the first half of the album a lot more than the second half, with exception of King Of Birds but that could just be primary bias - surprised that The One I Love is the single on this album because it's oddly mediocre in comparison to the rest.
All together i like the big drum section & the slap bass but there's just something I don't love about it.
The End of The World As We Know it just remined me of the big bang theory theme so idk about that one.

Hail To the Thief
Radiohead
8/10
This is my least listened to radiohead album but after listening all the way through, I don't know why - I don't think it's their best but I do think it has a lot of variety, it's a really good example of what radiohead sounds like all round with the rockier parts, jazz and more experimental bits.
it's not a very cohesive album giving it a higher replay value, in my opinion.

Obvs has some bangers on it, such an iconic 80's synth pop album but listening back to front was a bit monotone for me - good background music though. I do love Head Over Heels, always have always will. Going forward I will continue to listen to the songs I already knew.

Listen, we all like the hits - boulevard of broken dreams & american idiot are iconic, I can't deny that. But i had higher hopes, they use a very samey structure to a lot of songs and it started to feel like a chore. Long live Dookie.

straight off the bat, I loved the raw production of this album. There's an honesty and intimacy in the song writing that took me by surprise, like it's very stripped back to deliver something deeply personal.
The bass and drums particularly shine throughout, giving the songs a grounded, emotional weight. Great album.

I read Legs McNeill's 'Please kill me' and this album made perfect, chaotic sense. It's raw, weird, and endlessly influential - it's punk before safety pins.
Lou Reeds poetic nihilism <3 the lyrics were controversial at the time (still are, considering our political climate) dealing with everything from addiction to identity.
Musically, it's a minimalist masterpiece, the guitars are primal and unpolished in the best way - if you think it sounds like it was recorded in a shitty basement, it's because it basically was.
I just think this album encapsulates the late 60s NYC underground scene with such precision you can smell the stale cigs.
Even if it's not what you usually listen to you've gotta respect it's place in history. It's a perfect album because it's not trying to be.

This would hit a lot more for a halloween vibe, but i was just listening at work at it just wasn't the vibe / relisten value for me isn't high.
I liked the primative drums but it felt like all but the last two songs were fillers, leading up to "i walk on guilded splinters"

Bit of a controversial one for me, obvs we all know & admire elvis (this was the first rock & roll album to go to no1 and be endlessly influential to getting rock into mainstream) I'm aware that the tracks are a whitewashed version to be more palatable to the wider demographic.
That being said - I enjoy it, great bluesy voice & obvs a great performer.

Only By The Night
Kings of Leon
3/10
The opening track is actually really good but then the rest of the songs are all very samey - they all bleed into the other only really notice the progression with the singles that everyone knows. That being said, the singles are very nostalgic for me (I'm a 00's baby) but very much what you would hear waiting for your mum to finishing doing the big shop.
PS - when will grown men stop singing about teenagers? it makes me feel like i'm being turned inside out through my belly button

I don't listen to drum & bass (like at all) but I really tried to put my prejudice aside for this - not sure how successful I was.
IT'S SO LONG, no chance of me listening to 5 hours of abso anything.
I can respect that this is an iconic drum & bass album, some parts are undeniably groovy but it's just not for me

You Want It Darker
Leonard Cohen
9/10
Always been in awe of his voice, I know it's not everyones cup of tea but the deep baritone just grips me. Deeply poetic lyrics.
Not everyone gets to say goodbye like Cohen did and I think he recognises the significance of that.
