Popular Reviews

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington

Not quite my tempo… unfortunately an all around snooze fest. I can appreciate what he may have done for the genre but me listening to it today was tough to get through. INCREDIBLE background music tho. 3/10 My Top Track: Take the “A” Train

The Predator by Ice Cube

Honestly 90s rap was also kinda corny to me, but this one actually was interesting and kept my attention. Lots of energy and catchy beats. Strong start “with when will they shoot?” And a classic in the middle with “it was a good day”. The rest of it had some vibes but was some of the commentary or story parts were a bit cringey (end sequence of “Say hi to the bad guy”). Overall had a good time with this and probably had a lot of good commentary on social issues in LA in the early 90s but I’m no historian. 7/10

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Apr 23 2025

Great start with Yoshimi pt1 being an absolute banger then pt2 threw away all my excitement. Thankfully this was the only bad song because the rest of the tracks were fantastic and a great outro instrumental that ties it all together. Overall a very strong cohesive gloopy album. Top tracks: Yoshimi pt1, do you realize??, Approaching Pavonis Mons

Legalize It by Peter Tosh
Apr 24 2025

Don’t listen to reggae but a great vibe and enjoyable listen. Hate me but the title track wasn’t good but the rest of the tracks were. Best tracks were in the middle and slowly tapered back to good by the end. Strong 7/10 Top tracks: Ketchy Shuby>>>>igziabeher>why must I cry

Garbage by Garbage
Apr 25 2025

Alternative rock made specifically to play in Macy’s. Couple of good songs but for the most part nothing too unique. Frequently had some interesting sections within songs but got let down right after (Fix Me Now’s chorus vs the rest of it…) weak 5/10. My Top Tracks: Vow, Not My Idea

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington

Moving Pictures by Rush
Apr 29 2025

A prog rock classic. I have to disclose I have nostalgia for this album because the radio in my first car didn’t work and I had two CDs, A Van Halen album and this one, so I may be biased. This album I think had a good balance of instrumental and voiced songs as well as riffs that were interesting and unique but not offensive or too experimental like other prog rock albums. An easy to listen to, fun album with some amazing drums throughout. 8/10 Top Tracks: Tom Sawyer, YYZ

No Other by Gene Clark
Apr 30 2025

Fantastic, heartfelt, and soulful. Was so into it I didn’t even check the tracks to rate them individually, and by the end I had to play it again. 10/10

The Predator by Ice Cube
May 01 2025

Hotel California by Eagles
May 02 2025

This album is 1 good guitar solo and the most mid margaritaville soundtrack. There are two good songs hotel California and surprisingly the best on the album, Try and Love Again. Life in the fast lane continues to be the worst song written. Overall didn’t change my opinion of the eagles. Incredibly overrated and just okay. 5/10

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
May 05 2025

Odd mix of alternative and pop elements. Mostly 70s pop feel but nothing too unique. Not sure i liked any of the songs. 4/10

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
May 06 2025

Pretty solid funky jams. Superstition is a classic and You and I is a great one I’ve never heard before. 7/10

Only By The Night by Kings of Leon
May 07 2025

Solid album but the hits are hits and there’s a reason I haven’t heard any of the other ones. Manhattan was pretty good but 17 was weird. Overall good sound 5/10.

Hearts And Bones by Paul Simon
May 08 2025

Maybe he needs Garfunkel after all. Maybe the lyrics make up for it but the sound is quite bland and often annoying. Allergies and Cars are Cars are absolute earsores. But hearts and bones and Rene and Georgette are quite good but really the only good ones. Overall weak album for me. 3/10

Dare! by The Human League
May 09 2025

Started off sounding pretty redundant for 80s Electronic pop but maybe about mid way through the album it got real catchy. Darkness and Don’t You Want Me were the strongest songs. Very catchy, and interesting vocals, but not crazy unique. 6/10

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
May 12 2025

Not my first time listening to Elliot smith and I tried to like him but I really don’t get it. His voice is boring, the instruments don’t move me, and there wasn’t a song on here I liked. Nothing I particularly disliked either though. He stands out as a unique singer songwriter but it’s not for me. 3/10

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
May 13 2025

I don’t what it is but her cadence kinda pmo same way Faye Webster does. Very typical instrumentation in the 70s and felt like I’ve heard it before. Also Twisted being very swingy and Jazzy kinda threw me off since it was the only one that sounded like that, but it might have been the best song. Overall weak. 3/10

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
May 14 2025

First 3 songs were annoying with Not Great Man almost making me turn the album off. Damaged goods was almost good then the rest was bad. I liked no song on this whole album. The whole thing sounds like a teenagers first try at making music. 0/10

Underwater Moonlight by The Soft Boys
May 15 2025

It’s fine. Just sounds like if the Beatles were worse and considering this came out after the blueprint, what were they doing? 5/10

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
May 16 2025

Never a dull moment. Vibed with the whole thing. Some of the guitar solos sounded pretty similar in each of the songs but still a vibe. Great voice and some great soul. 7/10

Pearl by Janis Joplin
May 19 2025

She has a great voice that accompanies the instruments well. Lots of emotion but got repetitive. Mercedes Benz was awful but my top song was trust me. 5/10

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
May 20 2025

Paul McCartney carries the Beatles. Band on the run and Jet are two of the best Beatles songs. The albums starts crazy strong with these two. The rest of the songs are good but don’t keep up with the first two songs (1900 85 was a great end though) .Overall great album 8/10

The Bends by Radiohead
May 22 2025

Beautiful opening song but the Bends is the weakest song I feel. Just alright. High and Dry is a 10/10 and the rest of its stayed very strong. Had to have another listen. Very strong 9/10 but I may skip 1 or 2 songs in the future.

The Grand Tour by George Jones
May 23 2025

Actually one of the stronger 70s country albums. First few songs had me hooked but by about the 4th song I didn’t get anything different. Not bad

I see why they’re influential but it doesn’t really hold up. The whole album is just power chords, the same drum line, and a voice that’s not that interesting. For as punk as they are they weren’t breaking any ground with their music but I think the punkness came from off the record stuff. 4/10

May 27 2025

Overall ok. Kinda just sounded like a worse version of the Beatles. I see how they could have scared a mother in 1968 with “Sitting by the riverside”. 6/10

Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
May 28 2025

So many 10/10 songs on here but I feel like I can’t give the whole album a 10/10. Very sluggish towards the middle once “Time to get together” started and even a couple skips. Album is very long too, but even the bad songs are still good. Very very strong album. 9/10

90 by 808 State
May 29 2025

Didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. It’s a record that I want played in every sci-fi action movie and every classic video game boss. Never dull and always energetic. 9/10

Dirty by Sonic Youth
May 30 2025

Not much of a sonic youth fan coming into this and this one didn’t change my mind. Only the back half of this is listenable and maybe Sugar Kane. Definitely experimental but not all experiments work and most of these songs don’t do to me except make me want to skip it. 4/10.
