thank you jimi hendrix for blessing my ears! fav song is gonna have to be fire - those syncopated drums that happen like twice in the song probably made the people of the late 60's shit their pants in excitement. also, the fact that i knew half of these songs from listening to a greatest hits album like two years ago? in my books, if a song sticks with someone, the artist did something right. and jimi most definitely did something right. will be giving this five stars. undoubtedly. there was not one point on this album where my mind wasnt blown open, the lid sent flying all the way to iceland or some shit; i literally saw it leave at around 1:04 during stone free. he sung those melodies. while playing that guitar.
what the freak.
"will it burn me if i touch the sun?" - jimi (this guy knew how good he was)
oh boy i love a short album - especially when its new wave lmao. starting off strong with rio was a big win on duran^2's part. it was also the first song i ever played on radio and i got so scared cuz the intro to the song is quiet as shit so i thought it wasnt playing but then it turned out that it was. anyways the rest of the album was #fire. hungry like the wolf is obviously a banger but id have to say that the chaffeur was my favourite outside of the aforementioned two. those flute thingos in the background are so cool. i give it a 4/5 because i dont think theres anything new wave that qualifies as 5/5 except for the early new order stuff. that being said, this stuff was still groundbreaking for early 80s and so that gives it the 4. if i could give it a .5 i probably would.
let the good times roll - i feel like james bond listening to this. do not play whilst in car.
it had to be you - mr ray charles i think ive heard this one before. a slightly more original rendition may have been in order. piano solo goes very hard tho. i like the final section.
alexanders ragtime band - randomly good transition from it had to be you. i do love a good piece of music about music. never fails in my books. im getting a little tired of my ears being blown out tho.
okay so I was going to rate all the songs? but I ran out of time. I felt that was the only way to really do the album justice since it was more a collection of songs than a story. whilst I have a large amount of appreciation for mr ray Charles' voice and his piano skills (especially since he's blind), the very loud big band kinda put my off after a bit. I prefer quieter jazz/blues. I give it 4/5.
hell yeah charlie byrd and stan getz!!! i listened to this album while gardening (an experience i do not reccomend). first song went insanely hard. sonically the album was amazing - in both the musical elements and the production (it sounded so good). luckily this is my type of jazz so i very much enjoyed listening to this. i did notice that despite its short run time i still felt as if some parts were stretched. 4/5
roundabout - i had no idea what i was in for. then i realised it was that meme sound and i started laughing. then i heard the bass. then my head exploded. "kaboom!" it went. this song is ridiculously good. THE GUITAR SOLO?? ORGAN SOLO??? HELLO???
can and brahms - pretty nice but very unexpected.
we have heaven - i do love a good old ritual chant.
south side of the sky - back to the original sound. holy fuck this guitar is good. bass goes so hard too. production on all of these songs has been phenomonal too. PIANO SOLO??? what is going on? drums in this section are amazing. back to part a now. holy frickin shit the guitar is good!!!
next 4 songs were okay but nothing stood out to me.
heart of the sunrise - very long song. 11:26 is longer than i would normally tolerate. this song is interesting - but i dont know if its interesting enough to be 11 minutes long. vocals are very cool. i do like it tho. it reminds me of king crimson.
overall it gets a 3/5. whilst the highs were very high the lows were very low and thay has kinda skewed the rating. will be listening to this one again tho.
i cant tell with this album is the best thing ive ever heard or sucks so bad. its either a 5 or a 2. i will compromise and give it a 3.
the wait is my fav song off of it.
i will need to relisten.
i love grizzly bear!! the atmosphere created by this album is so vivid and consistent that i cant help but love it. obviously two weeks is a standout track. im gonna give it a 4/5 because whilst everything is so consistent and well done (production, melodic/rhythmic choices, timbre), i dont think it has the same intergenerational hold and significance that are you experienced has (which is my only 5 so im basing my ratings off that). probably my second or third favourite album so far
i have never heard this album before.
why is it so good.
5/5
very original name.
not so original music.
still very good.
4/5
very much needed to hear an album like this one. sounded insane for a live album recorded in the late 60's. i know the people there were popping the fuck off. i must find footage. guitar outro on rocket reducer was crazy.
will be relistening.

the first song was pretty good tho.
pretty sure the people who made this album were insane.
this album was sick.
in both ways.

jeff beck ur album was okay im gonna need to relisten tho
actually really liked this album. was not expecting such a nice country album.
why was this a good album.
quite liked this album, but i felt there was nothing really holding it together. will relisten.
i only made it through thr first 3 songs but it was pretty good. very original for the time.
very long album. i liked the vibe for the most part tho. would probably have given it a 4 if i listened to the whole thing.
meh kind of a random album. somewhat interesting.
pretty good for a country album!
