Some top notch Brit pop hits but, beyond that, I found it a bit dull.
Objectively good but not really my vibe. Bit too much whooping...
Let’s face it - she’s mega talented. 4 stars (but only because it’s not one of my all time faves / my typical genre)
A classic. Really a 4* but gets five for the memories / nostalgia (sixth form common room)
Iconic but not entirely my vibe - bit too depressing soul music in parts. the hits stick out as the best tunes. Don’t love the album as a whole . Amazing voice.
Classic 80s. Probably great at the time and contains some good tunes. Enjoyed hearing more of her work but don’t think I’ll go back to whole album… time after time remains a classic
It’s a classic of its time. Bit moody and depressing in tone but there’s a complexity to the songs (form and structure) and he’s pretty accomplished on the ol’ guitar. Having gone back to this album (as part of this group) Between the Bars is still my fave (with Angeles a close second) which is a bit boring / predictable of me…
This album surprised me - I've heard some of the songs before but really enjoyed listening to it 'front to back'. Frankly, I think it's brilliant. The whole album hangs together really well - I love the Americana, country influences. There are some absolute bangers. The guitars are interesting, drums are great... I could go on. really loved it!
Didn't think I liked the Eagles, but I quite enjoyed this one. Easy listening. A very accomplished album - hangs together and moves through a few hits with good additions. Not sure how often I will listen to it but probably a bit more now that I've listened through our little group! x
Much too slow. Bit boring. But can appreciate it is probably a good example of its genre.
Some absolute bangers but the album's a bit 'patchy' for my liking.
Quite good. Not sure I'd go wild and listen again or regularly.
Drive my car, Michelle, In My Life, Nowhere Man ... classics. Very 60s but in a good way. Quite enjoyed the rock n roll, soul (swinging 60s) vibe. I like the Beatles and so, perhaps unsurprisingly, I enjoyed this one.
3.5 really. I’m partial to a bit of Jurassic five and Wu-tang clan but hadn’t listened to this. Pretty good hip hop. Not my fave genre though hence 3.5
Absolute classic. Love this. So wondrous and magical. So good in the summer too. Really enjoyed listening to it back to back. Haven't really listened to "I know there's an answer' before and thought it was a cracker. Sloop John B still gives 'all the feels' (to use Pudge language).
Blast from the past! I had (might even still have) this on CD! Fun! Cracking album. So many tunes … and many choons
Have never listened to this all the way through. The title song is an absolute banger, of course, but I see this as one of the weirder of Bowie's creations... Very "Berlin" (it was part of his Berlin trilogy) and pretty experimental sounding. Not wild about it but can appreciate it is 'clever'. This hasn't usurped 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' and 'Hunky Dory' which are masterful.
Ok. Not my fave notwithstanding it’s 90/noughties grungy alternative
Not my vibe tbh. Not quite elevator music but not far off. It isn’t crap - I’m not just into this kind of ambiant music
3.5
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Folkie Americana - chilled - with some classics in the mix
Reminiscent of the Clash and other early 80s rock. Slightly weird. Very short songs and plenty of them. Musically quite accomplished but not something I'd go back to.
Not my fave genre but can appreciate it's a good example of early 00s hip hop / r'n'b. Some quite fun upbeat tunes ... Work It (obvs) and kinda like Back In the Day feat. Jay-Z for the funk mo-town undercurrents
Never ever gets old. Love this. A masterpiece. Clever (even weird - cryptic) lyrics, good mix of jolly and downbeat. Drive - a good opener. The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite - top notch. Everybody Hurts - melancholic and beautiful. ... It goes on... Nightswimming. SUCH a talented band. Great use of strings in some songs.
Pretty good for this genre but not something I'd listen to again and again. Album hangs together well - this generation knew how to structure albums! Australia is pretty cool - a song in 3 (?) sections ... enjoy the mid section guitar solo with jazzy brass and piano. Funky.
Banger - way better than I thought it would be
Funky. Quite enjoyed it but won't be a regular feature of my listening library I reckon. Chilled, jazzy vibes. Josie is good.
Can entirely see why this was regarded as ground breaking - it's experimental and really varied. Lots of musical and cultural influences. Some really good songs. Here there and everywhere - sweet and such a contrast to the sitar filled I'm Only Sleeping. Got to Get you into life is a really fun pop song - nice lyrics, brass band / jazz vibes, and the ol' guitar too.
Really liked this! Surprised! Good old fashioned rock n roll.
