1001 Albums Summary

Honky tonk country with great instrumentation. The subject matter in the lyrics are quite trad romance. But damn, there's accordions in the title track. Honky tonk aside, Dwight has a velvety voice. Hold On to God is a great sing-a-long track.

David Byrne is a genius in his own right. Having read that book about the emerging music scene in NYC in the late 70s / 80s makes me appreciate The Talking Heads that much more. Unadulterated experimentation, free from expectations, actually, not giving a fuck about expectations. The first track jogs with such calculated immortality, and even has infectious chanting sing-a-long phrases.

ASMR-like and supple intro with falsettos and tempo changes.

I can't believe I've never listened to this album in its entirety. I understand why Jimi's considered one of the greatest. The chord progressions, the syncopation, the rhythmic delivery of his lyrics in addition to the lyrical content. The compliments and studio firsts continue. Perhaps subconsciously I knew of this, but Bold As Love being originally sung and written by Hendrix kind of blew my mind.

The mixing is ridiculous. The harmonizing gives me chills. The second phase of "Carry On"... living me breathless with that tom/bongo transition. The lead guitar woven in so nicely.

I can see the appeal to this album from the engineering of Cohen’s voice and his lyrical content, but it’s musically not for me.

grooves that can go on forever and still feel great to sway to get a special place in my heart. those tracks come from the most human parts of us. and these folks create something just like that.

Proto Linkin Park or POD with the rapping. Also has ska-like with the horns. Genre-bending, but not for me.

Raw energy.

I can’t not think about sports when I hear this album.

The opening track’s campiness took my by surprise, but I continued on and found some appeal to the second track.

Great pop music with emotional vocal delivery.

Unique timbre. Not for me.
