Born To Run
Bruce Springsteen
To open an album with a harmonica intro is audacious. It’s raw, it’s emotional. But ultimately it’s Bruce.
Classic album. Meeting across the river possibly one crossing too much.
Brought back with the crescendo of jungleland.
The classic born to run the holding the middle of the album together.

Tommy
The Who
A rock musical in album form. Following the story of Tommy- and I must say; for a deaf dumb and blind kid. He sure does play a mean pin ball.
An interesting and enjoyable listen. But also quite long. Sally Simpson a new song which was good

Rage Against The Machine
Rage Against The Machine
Urghhh ahhh this is just primal Zack de la Rocha. Album of my late teen years.
I can’t contest it. Still listen to it now. The sentence structure of Zack is iconic. Who needs standard iambics pentameters when you can create your own intonation.
They use a similar riff and style through out the album. I would say there is a heavy emphasis on repetition, but the best way to hammer home your political message is repetition. ( as we aptly learnt from Tony Blair c.1997 - maybe he took inspiration from RATM)
Bullet in the head is a favourite on the album. KITN obvs Township Rebellion, just powerful.
Love this album. Introduced RATM to the world.

The Slider
T. Rex
Rock on sounds like the weaker but edgier brother of their biggest hit “Get it on”. But the more I listened to it I enjoyed it apart from the chorus. Which actually became annoying as it teased the same melody as “get it on” but never delivered the final note.
Fun album- interesting to listen to. Last 25% better than the rest.
Few enjoyables
Ballrooms of Mars (good reference to diamond hands - well before the world of Reddit)
Baby Boomerang
Buick Mackane (guitar indulgence for the band)
Telegram Sam (lyrics are nonsensical - but not in an enjoyable way)
Very much a product of the 1970s
The issue with the album is most songs ends in the same way. Repeating the song title until the end

Paranoid
Black Sabbath
Iconic album with primal vocals and a strong guitar riffs duelling the drums throughout.
Super enjoyable morning listen as I meandered through the city to my corporate job. Where people may think I’m insane but not from frowning but head rocking.
This album delivers in so many ways. Some incredible songs on it
Electric funeral and fairies wearing boots are new favourites - very enjoyable
Paranoid Iron man and War pigs classics and great tunes.
I would never have thought planet caravan was a black sabbath song. More likely to find on an Eagles album. Enjoyed the change of tempo and pace
Over all really enjoyed listening. Tribute to Ozzy.
Will listen again

Something/Anything?
Todd Rundgren
It was an interesting album. defo some weak song mixed in with the enjoyable.
It was a needed change in the album rotation so maybe caught me off guard but I enjoyed a number of the songs.
I persevered through a random selection post the awful sounds of the studio “intro” and was pleasantly surprised by a number of songs.
There was a good range from soul ballads to rock ballads. To introducing a more heavy style for little red light and Black Maria.
Interesting evolution through the album. Actually really liked a couple songs
Black Maria (mega guitar solo)
It wouldn’t have made any difference
New artist hadn’t heard before and wasn’t disappointed
3.5/5

Straight Outta Compton
N.W.A.
Hell of a intro to NWA - unreal album.
Honestly love so many songs from it.

Haut de gamme / Koweït, rive gauche
Koffi Olomide
Really enjoyed this different vibe.
No discernible favourite track. However I listened to the track list start to finish. I did have it as background music to a family meal. Which it provided a fun upbeat atmosphere. I feel listening to the album solely with headphones would be a little trickier. Having the odd song every so often was great and the backing track of a night is a great choice.
Not sure any individual song stands strong enough to warrant my investment for the average 6min song length.
As an album enjoyable

Abbey Road
Beatles
Honestly just a classic.
A lot of nonsensical lyrics but that’s also part of the Beatles charm.
Guitar interlude in “she’s so heavy” is so 60s. Loved it.
Maxwell silver hammer is just such a different vibe. And just a bit rubbish.
Then back to gnarly vocals in Oh! DARLING and piano mashing which is wonderful.
Followed by octopus garden which aside from the first 10 seconds is just a bit random and weak.
Enjoyed Golden Slumber a lot.
Such a varied album with so many classic riffs, chorus’ and even drums.
Great album with some random nonsensical songs interweaved throughout. But I guess that’s just the Beatles

Heavy Weather
Weather Report
Wasn’t expecting the jazz vibe, and heavy use of sax throughout the album when I heard the name.
To be honest I loved the slow use of saxophone, very mood setting. However I didn’t appreciate that the whole album would be synths and sax (keyboards and drums too)
An album I’d play with a glass of red wine and to try to act pretentious. “Oh you don’t know the weather report, gwahf you must listen” but sadly those sort of evenings are few and far between.
Rumba mama was a miss on the album. Not needed and just a different vibe felt out of place
I appreciate the musical talent on the album. However not one I’d stick on regularly. Maybe if I needed some background music to drown out my spreadsheets.

Live At The Witch Trials
The Fall
Hmmm interesting album. I came in with no expectations. Not really keen on the car warning beeps in the songs. The punk style is cool but some of the songs do feel quickly included on the album and not necessarily thought through entirely, but that could be the punk style and I’m the one who has conformed to what music standards “should” be and following what the man tells me to do.
However as the one with the subjective judgement and also the one reviewing the album - I didn’t enjoy this album, nice to hear a different band. But not one I’d come to again.
I did think no Xmas for John Quays was an interesting track and one I’d listen to again.
industrial estate was good lyrics decrying the class system and showing the plight of the working class, but in the ironic upbeat tone of punk.

The Fat Of The Land
The Prodigy
Some absolute tunes on it - loved stomping through the city of London to it, and loading up some spreadsheets.
The issue was some of the beats out of the club scene go on too repetitively and long. A few songs I wouldn’t listen to again “narayan” and Climbatize, too long.
But over all the other songs hold up the album and really enjoyed the album.

Appetite For Destruction
Guns N' Roses
I mean when people joke saying my favourite album by X band is the greatest hits. Appetite for Destruction literally is that greatest hits album for GnR (ex November rain)
The opener of welcome to the jungle is honestly one of my favourite album openers from start to finish you know what you’re in for.
Also probably one the most iconic album art works ever.
The only issue is. For a full album it’s hard to listen to the whining of Axel Rose.
Also special shout out to “My Michelle” was a weird tune in that everything was good about the song apart from the chorus which was played in the wrong key and a bit shit.

Eagles
Eagles
This album makes me want to do two things: get in a car and road trip or crack open a few cans and sit in the sun. Sadly British summers (and roads) don’t offer the level of fulfilment I’m seeking.
I hadn’t listened to this album before today. I enjoyed expanding my 1970s classic rock repertoire. The album had a lovers undertone to it - the theme of love was veiled (thinly at times) across most songs, which actually was quite enjoyable. gave a sense of purpose to the album.
The undulation of slow guitar to upbeat guitar across the album threw me. I didn’t enjoy the swings from one to another.
Take it easy was a great opener - very eagles (which feels stupid to say on their self titled album).
Most of us are Sad was a different tempo and I didn’t enjoy its placement on the album. Understood to show a bit more range and emotion, also appealing to the slower listening audience- not one for me.
Nightgale - who’d have thought this bird would be a perfect partner for an eagle. Took me straight back into the album. Love song with out the super gushy.
Early Bird - loved the banjo. Loved the vocals. One of my favourite on the album.
Tryin - great ending song - took me back to Road trips and beers.
Enjoyed listening to the album

Porcupine
Echo And The Bunnymen
So I gave this album two chances. One in the morning and one in the evening. And I disliked the album on both listening events.
The biggest turn off was the lead singer. His vocals were all over the place. It’s the sort of music I’d imagine people listening to in 6th form or start of Uni to be edgy.
Some of the guitar interludes were decent. But the arty aspect of the album really put me off.
On Gods will be Gods they used what sounded like an echo machine - on both the vocals and drums. Maybe they were going after that ethereal style - but quickly became my audio hell. This was followed by UFO sounds and the Warbling of the lead singer. Honestly the best part of the song was it randomly cutting off at the end mid sentence.
Honestly my horror when I thought I’d finished with the album to see they had recorded a B side of 6 of the album songs.
1/5 really not a fan. Not looking forward to hearing another echo and bunny man album.

London Calling
The Clash
I only really knew the leading song from this album.
But I was impressed by the eclectic styles this band covered. Nothing that I’d have expected.
All have that punk style of singing - but you can hear Irish influence, classic rock and roll, Reggae, classic punk. Really interesting as honestly didn’t know what musical style would appear next. It meandered from short sharp punk tones - to upbeat joyful almost singalong style.
Big fan of lost in the supermarket. Great intro and lyrics.
However not an album I’d run to in the first instance - but would be happy enough if it came on

Sunshine Hit Me
The Bees
This album was my vibe.
Hit some musical notes I forgot since uni.
Big fan have added these to my rotation.
Good feel good music - little hint of some mixes of different genres. Reminded me a lot of the eels - good vibes all around.

Buena Vista Social Club
Buena Vista Social Club
I enjoyed this album. Variety of instruments creating harmonic melodies. Piano was nice to hear and the faint singing in background across the album was a good style. Nothing was invasive as you listen or screaming ITS MY TURN HEAR ME NOW. as such it’s a strong one to put on as a background music. The only element is that it does sound like it could be the backing track of any none descript restaurant home or abroad. This probably results in 4million of the 4.3 million monthly listens for this band..
I listened as my only album on repeat for 2.5hours on a plane home and still felt like I could listen to it the next day. So that’s a success.

Very
Pet Shop Boys
Okay 80s since brought kicking and screaming into the 90s. The song “I wouldn’t normally do this kind of thing” a perfect auditory example of this
The soft camp style of the lead singer is definitely unique for the album.
At times it felt a little confused album of trying to offer ballads while maintaining a dance techno vibe.
I will say “different point of view” was a catchy chorus and could have been straight out of a K pop group in 2012. Which is testament and legacy both of the style and sound the band have created
Wouldn’t listen as an album again - but the occasional song

Get Behind Me Satan
The White Stripes
Intro to Blue Orchid is just sexy - the solid drum line, jacks sexy vocals the riff of guitar - honestly nailed it. To paraphrase the song “how dare you” do such a song as the intro to the album.
I’m a fan of the white strips and of this album. Very enjoyable listen and introduction to some new songs
The nurse was a slow build and a tease of the guitar throughout
The Denial Twist for a new favourite too. Enjoyed Instinct Blues can see the Black Keys inspiration from this song.
There were a few misses on the album little ghost was a shocker. Also I was less of a fan of the slower moving songs including White Moon.

Didn’t enjoy the pop punk / emo style. Feel this group will have inspired other bands - but I didn’t enjoy listening.

Pink Moon
Nick Drake
Used to listen to this album before I was cool. A pinnacle was hearing it in a cafe trying to impress a date and asking if it was pink moon by Nick Drake - where the staff looked at me like I was a knob head..
Love the Melodies, the guitar, the gentle vocals of Nick. A welcoming album that makes me feel at peace.
Enjoyed nearly every song on the album. Only complaint that a 11 song album being 27mins is a crime!! Recommend listening sitting on a canal in the sun with a beer, watching the world go by

Dirt
Alice In Chains
I enjoyed the guitar through out the album.
Them bones and rooster hard favourites.
May have been a more reminiscent album for me as enjoyed the songs when younger.
But the heavy guitar and vocals were strong throughout.
Good album

The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Velvet Underground
Hmm this album was interesting.
For every song I enjoyed there was one I disliked.
The vibe was super 60s and shockingly the first time I’d ever listened to the Velvet Underground.
The bass on European Son - slapped. Then they do something ass like add in smashing glasses adlibs and bongo drums..
Weirdly I enjoyed Nico’s vocals more than Lou reeds…
Again some songs I loved- others were just a miss for me
