A Little Deeper
Ms. Dynamite
I was twelve years old when Dy-Na-Mi-Tee was released and it was such a massive hit, it gives me so much nostalgia-as does It Takes More and Put Him Out. These are three songs that really dominated my playlists of that year, I remember the video for the second song always being on MTV Base in the morning when I got ready for school.
There are a few filler tracks in my opinion but they all have a good beat to them.
My notable mentions added to the two songs mentioned was Kandy Krush which really got me moving about and Too Experienced which featured Barrington Levy which was fun. This album had a lot of reggae influence which made it really easy to listen to.
The last song that had the secret bonus track at the end, was a real treat. The rapper in this track is her brother Akala who is also a writer and activist, his song Shakespeare is worth a listen if you liked this track.
I’m glad I got to listen to this album and revisit some songs as an adult

Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath
Was it some divine intervention that gave me Black Sabbath the morning after the news broke that Ozzy Osbourne had passed away?
Being a fellow Brummie, Ozzy & Black Sabbath have always been a big part of my music journey.
This album is only 8 songs long which feels correct, people got a bit track happy when albums went onto CD format, no filler needed on a vinyl.
The guitar riff at the end of Black Sabbath is just 👌🏼
The Wizard, a song about a wizard going for a walk, sure why not, they are from the city that bought you Lord of the Rings, and that guitar is impeccable.
Ozzy’s voice is the perfect match to the guitar and I can only imagine what it would have been like to have heard this for the first time in 1970 after having never hearing the likes of heaviness before.
My first five star ⭐️

The Cars
The Cars
Never heard of this bad, or familiar with any of their songs on this album.
It’s got that very new wave mechanical robotic sound, which to be honest a lot of the music of this era sounds like this so it is hard to differentiate for me to what makes it’s so special. I’m sure people who understand the technical aspects of sound making would really appreciate that side of it more. It’s a fun album, my stand out track was My Best Friends Girl, that got added to my playlist as I will definitely be dancing around to that again.
A very good listenable album with no skips

Raw Power
The Stooges
I have never listened to any of the albums made with the stooges, and I only really know of Iggy’s music with the album ‘Lust For Life’ although I was suprised to find I knew a few songs purely from the covers that have been done from future bands that clearly give a lot of credit to this band and this album in particular.
I know Raw Power from Guns&Roses

Like A Prayer
Madonna
Madonna is one of those artists that’s most always been around. I’m mean, still, she is still making music and reinventing her sound.
My first encounter with Madonna was her ‘Ray of light’ era.
As I have got older I really think her 80s music is my favourite, although I wouldn’t say I was a massive fan, I love the hits.
‘Like a Prayer’ & ‘Exspress yourself’ are easily recognisable to me. The rest of the album is new to me and it is a good mix of slow and fast pop songs, some with deep messages. I can see why it’s a successful and celebrated album, although I do think some songs are a bit too long.

Smile
Brian Wilson
I appreciate the history and story behind making this. I recently watched ‘Love & Mercy’ (a must watch I think if you have this album come up) which really looks into Wilson’s mental health issues and everything that came with it when he originally started writing this album.
I listened to this album and was like yeah I get it but also, I don’t really like it, at all. Personally, I think ‘Pet Sounds’ is an alright album and ‘Good Vibrations’ is a brilliant song on it, and it was the only one I enjoyed on this album.
It was so long, and I looked down at one point thinking “jeez this song has been going on forever” but it was three tracks in and it just had all blended into one noise.
I think if you were a huge Beach Boys fan back in the day you would really get off on this album just on the nostalgia alone.

Music From Big Pink
The Band
I never heard of this band before, so this is all new to me.
On the first song I was happy to have a more Americana, country, Blues sort of sound as that is my vibe.
I mostly really enjoyed it, some tracks I found a bit boring but mostly I was bopping my head along and enjoying myself. Would listen again.
Also, Dylan’s artwork is shite.
Songs I loved: To kingdom Come, The weight, We Can Talk, I Shall Be Released
When it finished my phone automatically started playing Ophelia by The Band and that was really good, I suggest listening to that if you enjoyed this album.

Rust In Peace
Megadeth
How have I gone through life without listening to Megadeth!
I didn’t realise I liked heavy metal as much as I did.
This album is 10/10
The guitars, the drums, the lyrics and themes 👌🏼perfection
I love the wild mix of themes.
There is not enough songs about wizards these days

Purple Rain
Prince
I mean Purple Rain on its own is 5/5
When doves cry is also a top song but tbh I ent a massive fan
He is iconic, he can sure as hell play a great guitar and he is massively influential
But I just don’t think the album in its entirety is that great.

Gorillaz
Gorillaz
Clint Eastwood by Gorrillaz had a hold on me when I was 11.
I used to sit and watch the video whenever it came on the telly and be mesmerised by it, the song really gives me nostalgic feelings.
19-2000 also is a song I remember liking as well when I was younger.
Other songs on this album I liked were Rock The House (which I temper the video but not the song) and Punk which was a fun short song.
There is quite a mix of stuff going on in the album, I found it a bit messy and apart from the songs i liked I wasn’t really feeling the rest
The remixs of Clint Eastwood and 19-2000 are the best songs in the album

Penthouse And Pavement
Heaven 17
This album feels like someone told AI to make an 80s album and it just threw in everything.
A lot of these songs are way too long.
Temptation by Heaven 17 is a great song from this band but none of the songs in this album are anywhere close to that.
There wasn’t one stand out for me, I found it quite an annoying listen

Bridge Over Troubled Water
Simon & Garfunkel
Bridge over troubled water is such a beautiful song to me. Funnily enough, it used be a fave of mine when I was little and the band Hearsay did a cover of it. Although, the original is definitely better.
Also really love the song Cecelia, the rest is the album is good but I prefer Paul Simon’s solo stuff more.

Abbey Road
Beatles
I always say I don’t like The Beatles to annoy my husband as it gets him really riled up.
Abbey Road is undoubtedly a great album, full of hits that everyone loves and lesser listened to songs that are still great. I don’t really hear any filler songs and and there is such a mix of sounds, styles and subjects.
