Popular Reviews

Skylarking by XTC

Okay, I like a lot of music. I LOVE XTC. They gotta be at least a top 5 for me. “That’s really super, supergirl” is a favorite for me. I love the subject matter, very witty story telling, and overall the chorus’s melancholic tone ties the whole song together. “Don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t feel super. Supergirl”. Amazing stuff, love it. Grass, and ballad for a rainy day are also great songs. Gotta be a close first pick album from XTC for me.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel

Gonna be honest. I can certainly see how people like Simon and Garfunkel. They are very melodic and a lot of the songs were upbeat. Not my exact cup of tea. I like higher energy. However, I will say El Condor Pasa was a nice song to listen to. I liked the flute, nice touch!

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Aug 14 2025

Classic soul Motown group! Not quite my style, but can’t deny the legends. I had no idea they did a “hi heard through the grapevine” cover. Interesting to see the evolution from Doo-Wop to soul music. They certainly set the foundation for classic/modern R&B.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Aug 15 2025

Overall, solid sound. Definitely throws one back to the 70s yacht rock era. Great guitar work on these songs, with smooth harmonics. Kings was a personal favorite due to the contrast between a melancholic verse/intro vs the most upbeat sounding chorus. Certainly at least 1-2 songs I’d come back for.

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Aug 18 2025

Overall, solid album. Very blues driven. Can’t go wrong with LZ. Fave song was Bron-Yr-Aur, the instrumental was nice!

Overall, solid tracks on this album. Classics like star man and new tracks for me like rock n roll suicide. I like the changes throughout the album from faster tracks to slower ballads. I can certainly hear the inspirations modern bands took from David Bowie!

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith

I LOVE jazz music. This was my speed for sure. Like the addition of the guitar. Great fillers while the rest of the band maintained tempo. Bass was on point as well. Finally, the addition of the organ was great. If anyone has every played Fallout (especially Fallout New Vegas’s DLC old world blues) this album fits right in.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Aug 25 2025

Overall, I liked the album. Favorite song had to be weird fishes/arpeggi. Melodic vocals, paired with steady and easy strumming of the guitar paired well. I especially liked the rhythmic drumming and the bass that anchors the entire tone of the song in one symphony. If you listen, they’re all doing something entirely different, but somehow it all ties together. Otherwise, it sounds like another mid 2010s alternative/folk album. Overall, good album, def coming back for weird fishes.

Aug 26 2025

Overall, I thought this album was good, but not something I would be returning to. The vocals at points are just too high pitched for me. I’m more of a Gil Scott Heron kind of guy. The themes of the album stood at as a social commentary of the times back then, but felt like it was the same stuff a lot of artists were putting out. Gotta respect the legacy of Curtis Mayfield, but it ain’t a 5 from me.

Out of Step by Minor Threat
Aug 27 2025

I love punk. This album reminds me of black flag and honestly, I’ve never really listened to minor threat, though I know they are pretty big in the scene. Overall, strong album especially if you’re from California. Punk and rap is totally So Cal.

The Yes Album by Yes
Sep 01 2025

“A venture” was def my favorite on this album. I’ve never heard this group, but I really like what they were doing here. Very melodic vocals reminiscent of music at the time “almost like yacht rock”, but the instrumental was something a bit different. The rhythmic beat, and lead guitar really bring it all together. Overall a strong 3.

“Bohemian Rhapsody”. Might be a cop out, but that instantly makes this a 5. Such a recognizable song. Queen had a legacy that transcends the passing of Freddie Merc. Overall, I like the flow of the album. His raspy vocals when getting into the verses was a great contrast with his melodic vocals on the chorus. When the whole band can sing, that’s also a plus. Kudos to them on the backing vocals!

Songs The Lord Taught Us by The Cramps
Sep 03 2025

Nah fam. This one wasn’t it. I tend to like bands similar in sound, but to me, these fellas were a little goofy. Couldn’t be caught playing this loud anywhere tbh.

Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Sep 05 2025

Very insightful album!! Learned a lot!! I learned that Europe is endless. Also, life is timeless. Also, there’s a thing called the Trans Europe Express, that potentially may be endless!! (I will not be listening to this again).

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Sep 08 2025

This album was okay tbh. Sounded like a lot of alternative that was going on at that time. Kinda like Neon Trees, Phoenix type deals. Don’t get me wrong, Arcade Fire is great! Wake Up is a smash! But wake up isn’t on this album lol.

Sep 10 2025

Can’t go wrong with Queen honestly. Each song was a hit to me. Even the theatrics of “In the lap of the Gods”. I really enjoyed the melodic chorus. These guys have always sounded great.

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Sep 11 2025

This was okay. Kind of new wave, but kind of a mix of directions. Almost reminded me of stoic “the smiths”. I’ll give em a pass because they’re Bri’ish, mate. But otherwise I’m indifferent.

Ace of Spades by Motörhead
Sep 12 2025

HELL YES. “If you like to gamble I tell you I’m your man. You win some, you lose some it’s all the same to me”. RIP Lemmy. I love old school metal. Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Judas, etc. legends!! Set the stage for thrash (another favorite genre of mine), and new age metal. Love Lemmys vocals. Raspy, grimy, brutal. Absolutely my favorite. The guitars steady rhythms and sudden explosions of solos and harmonics. Bass and drums on point. Especially cannot understate how badass the cover looks too.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Sep 15 2025

This was okay lol. Kind of sounds like budget Queen honestly. I get the direction and can vibe with it, but overall it’s like yacht rock, Queen, and some antics of new wave 80s. At least to me.
