Highway to Hell
AC/DC
Very easy listen. Reminds me of a childhood car ride with Scott Dudek. Classic rock at its finest. That said, many of the songs sound very similar to a sense that when it starts I’m like “oh I’ve heard this jawn before,” but in reality I have not— it just sounds very similar to something I’ve heard. Still very good, 3.8/5– would listen with Scott on a drive through CVNP.

Did not think I’d be a fan but really enjoyed. A little slow for Chuck’s liking, hence the 4 stars but overall surprised me

Electric Ladyland
Jimi Hendrix
I know this is supposed to be an all timer album, but just doesn’t do it for me. Had to listen to this once in my “History of Rock and Roll” class back in the day and felt the same thing. Would be awesome to see live, but as an overall album the Voodoo Chile, Gypsy eyes, Come On, and All Along The Watchtower are obvious hits and the rest doesn’t do it as much for me.

Grievous Angel
Gram Parsons
Woke up this morning to George listening to the last song on the album on the speaker— which was very slow and sounded like something my Sito would listen to while cooking up a scrumptious Lebanese dinner. Therefore, I went into this album thinking it was going to be a slow, slog; something that would cause my dumb brain, which requires constant stimulation and silly memes to keep me attended, to quickly lose interest. Well…. I was wrong and overall pleasantly surprised.
Return of the Grievous Angel, I can Dance, and Ooh Lost Vegas were my favs songs. Cash on the Barrelhead/Hickory Wind was an absolute bop as well with a Baby Keem-type beat switch— I’m sure Keem draws some his inspiration from this Gram Parsons gem. Didn’t love nor hate the slower-paced songs of the album but I could see myself spinning again due to the mentioned songs I enjoyed. Therefore I’d give it a solid 3** (shoutout Mr. Tarett, my freshman guitar teacher). I’m sure my grandma would give this a 5/5 though. Also, I want to give a shoutout to Ursetti— that’s my lawyer he got me off them charges.
**To earn a 3 or greater on the chuck rating scale (CRS™️) the album must be re-spinnaker in its entirety**

Scott Dudek special right here. He would bop this album (CD version) in the ole blue Honda oddessey on the way to hoops practice back in the day. Heartbreaker was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar (yes I used to shred) and feel it is one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time. Tons of nostalgia here, hence it’s deserving of the first 5/5 score so far since beginning my 1001 album journey . Would give a 6-7/5 if I could.

Tecca style review today fuck it.
Pre-listen thoughts: Omg a 4 song 54 minute album, now we’re talking. No better time for Spinning this album a 2 hour midnight drive home from the Denver airport. Lets rip her!
Song breakdown:
1. Zombie: low key sounds like the George Lopez theme at the beginning. Vocals at 5 min got me hyped as I thought this was purely gonna be an instrumental album. Song got more intense as it progressed. An absolute bop. Cruising through the mountains rn just blasting this shit.
2. Mr. Follow Follow: a bit of a slower start but I’m vibing with it. A whopping 7 min buildup to vocals. Thank god i was getting a little bored. Not as hype as first song but still enjoyed.
3. Observation is No Crime: Funky af. The repetitive “tell me tell me “ got kinda annoying.
4. Mistake: 14 minutes of true beauty.
Final thoughts: This album definitely got me out of my music comfort zone in a good way. Without this site I never would’ve ever listened to something like this. I surprisingly enjoyed this way more than I thought I would as I didn’t think I’d end up listening to the whole thing. Not something id spin in the car on a daily basis but would make really good background music. Highly would recommend for a night drive when you want to be deep in your thoughts. It’s now 1 am and I’m wide awake. Good shit Fela Kuti.

Elvis Costello & The Attractions
1.5/5
Not gonna lie, this was extremely difficult to listen all the way through. Crazy N word drop, not a great look Elvis. At least 5 times throughout, I almost considered flipped this off and turned on a Migos album. Needed to feel something and this album was nowhere close to doing it for me. Very generic sounded with nothing really that stood out or tickled my fancy. Costello sounded like a poor man’s Bob Dylan. Smelled big shit. Did not add any songs.

Deceivingly good. Thought this was gonna be some wack mushroom tripping shit based on the name of artist and album, but actually vibed to it. Nothing revolutionary in my eyes but did add a few songs to the ole playlists.

Suicide
0.3/5
What the fuck is this? This sounds like something I’d hear walking into a random dive bar in Cincy. Like 3 people gathered around the stage contently watching. I’d probably grab a coors banquet, realize the band is trash, chug the beer then leave.
Appropriately named as I really did want to commit suicide many times throughout listening. I don’t know who the fuck picked this as one of the 1001 most influential albums of all time, but I think they need to be strapped to chair and forced listen to this for 24 hours straight so that they can reconsider that decision. Sorry if this review is a little mean but listening to this album was a complete waste of time and whoever picked this deserves to be fired from every job they have for eternity.
Only positive- It fit the spooky Halloween theme for this time of year, I will give them that.

Talking Heads
If you ain’t talking head, I don’t wanna talk. Listening to this on the Eve of no Nut November was a godsend. If I listened to this album even one day later I wouldn’t be able to contain myself.
I enjoyed it but nothing revolutionary for me. Got a little bored midway through then picked back up at the end. Was planning to write a super long review over the weekend but felt uninspired after listening. Good not great… but can see why people love these guys. Would probably spin this again to give it a better chance.

Come on. Ahhhhhhhh how does it feeeeel? This is my most listened to Bob Dylan album, likely due to Sam Talley so already knew I loved it. Harmonica goes bonkers. Gotta love me some Bob. Rounding up due to vibes— shoutout my boy Dick.

Axis: Bold As Love
Jimi Hendrix
Honestly did not vibe with this nearly as much as I expected. Electric Ladyland was much much better. I’d rather listen to the Jimi neutron theme song 13 times rather than this. Some cool guitar solos and would be pretty sick to see live, but I did not add a single song and will not be listening again. Appreciated the nod to 6ix9ine in the song “If 6 was 9”.

New Gold Dream (81/82/83/84)
Simple Minds
Woke up pissed at the world that this stupid website gave us another 80s rock album. I was pleasantly surprised by this album. As people in the group chat said this morning, I would also agree that this should not be classified explicitly as a rock album but maybe some sort of synth-pop and alternative rock sub-genre. Very groovy overall— made for an excellent listen driving through the mountains. Songs I added included: Someone Somewhere, Glittering Prize, and Made You a Miracle.
All that said, don’t get too cocky 1001 Albums. If I get another 1970s rock album tomorrow I will give it no higher than a 2 as I am rocked-out. Some Rap, pop, or jazz would really be nice

Good not great. Was expecting this to be a lot better tbh. I don’t necessarily see the place for this within the most influential albums of all time. There’s plenty of equivelent pop from this era imo— Brittany, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, etc, I’d say nearly every Gaga album is better than this (I know later 2000s but still). Even many pop albums from the past 5 years that I liked a lot more than this. All that said I still enjoyed the album as there are 4-5 huge hits on this puppy.
