1001 Albums Summary

Never been really big on Perry Farrell's voice. Three Days has a great jam. I like the Eastern vibes in Of Course Not bad. Not blown away by it. First full listen of a J A album and this was definitely Jane's Addiction.

The beats still have a very early hip hop feel. I prefer the beats and intricate vocal rhythms of more modern hip hop. I noticed a turn and thought the album was kicking up, but it must have been the next song after the album

Not really my thing, this 70's acoustic pop. Reminds me of Cups and Cakes by Spinal Tap.

I mean, she's a beast. Great first record.

I like it. Still prefer more modern beats and samples. This is still early-ish hip-hop with that LA high synth featured heavily.

This might be the worst thing I've ever heard. British fantasy folk. There's a song called the Minotaur song. Really bad.

Was surprised that for his huge double album, that it only has two? of his major hits. Those hits are the most solid tracks.

Meh, long form pretty self-indulgent prog stuff.

Excellent. He's a master doing his thing in his prime. It's simple I IV V stuff and not my go to music choice but its the top tier of what it is.

Interesting. Not well versed in Duran Duran, and I liked this. Wouldn't say its a new favorite, but I could listen to this.

Interesting. Very toned-down in the Bowie-ness. A fair bit of instrumental in there.

Again, not my typical listen, but I really liked the vibe. I could definitely listen to this and will check out some more of his stuff. My big takeaway which I've noticed in other very soul-oriented music is that the vocals are excellent, but the hooks are not terribly strong. I did not leave this album remembering any of the music.

It's Destroyer. It's awesome.

Didn't realize that they were an instrumental group. A fine record, probably very influential in its day but today feels a bit limited

Very interesting. never heard of her before. Very briefly got Daft Punk Tron vibes but of course went in a different direction.

I like it. I have stayed away from jazz for a while and forget that there is stuff like this that I can enjoy.

Again, first real dive into REM besides the hits. I like it. Will listen to more albums

Interesting. I wasn't super in tune during this listen, but having never heard them before, I liked what I heard and would definitely check out more of their stuff to get a better sense of what they are.

Couldn't get through. I suppose I could give it more of a fighting chance if I were in a more patient mood, but I just don't like Elliott Smith.

A lot of surprising stuff in here and I really didn't know what to expect from Joni. Not exactly my thing but revealing enough that I shall check out more of her catalog across the decades.

Great. I've been neglecting soul music and this is a top-notch album.

Pretty generic feeling. Gained a little bit of traction in a later jam but a little boring.

Pretty classic Elton John here. Couldn't help but laugh at the first line of Razorface.

Again, impressed with REM. Nice to see a fuller picture beyond their singles.

First real dive into Anthrax. Seems less polished both in terms of songs/riffs and production than say, Metallica. Especially for a fourth album. For example, the vocals feel like they could be more present in the mix. Still only 1987 tho, so maybe the sound hadn't progressed so far yet.

Killer. Doesn't age well for 2025 sensibilities but I like it.

Not my favorite. Another case of on first listen, couldn't zero in on any memorable songs. More rambling than not.

OK. Glad to hear it, but i prefer hip-hop when beats progressed beyond just two turntables.

Legendary

Didn't like it as well as Automatic for the People. This sounded earlier and like they hadn't really started to take chances to write interesting songs. But could be wrong about timeline.

Fine. Could throw on in the background, but its not something I'm seeking out. It's friggin Willie Nelson, what do you expect?

Tom Waits is ridiculous. Too complex to just enjoy in the background, too weird to legitimately say, "this is my thing".

Big departure from my norm and what this site recommends. It is a Vibraphone heavy tango concert. I would have to give it a couple of passes to understand what's going on but didn't really gel for me on a first listen.

Did not get far. Made it casually through five songs and never knew when the song changed. Not my thing.
