1001 Albums Summary

This is like if “On The Run” was a full album instead of a song. Got this on wax, always gets lots of play around spooky season.

The instrumentals are a riot, love that it’s a lean mean 29 minutes. Struggle with the vocals/lyrics. I could see this one growing on me with more listens. UPDATE: relistened while lifting weights, bumping it up to a 4

Solid listen. Would like to revisit on a summer evening with a glass of wine. Super cool that Nina Simone cover covered a David Bowie song.

Fun listen. Was gonna give it a pass for the dated production/flows until I remembered Paul’s Boutique came out the same year. Nice bari sample on Latifah’s Law

First album on here that was a big blind spot. Really enjoyed this, like if the Pretty Prince of Parties was a full album.

California Dreaming is an all-timer. Monday Monday and straight shooter are cool, rest are a mixed bag. The icky lore surrounding John Phillips tarnishes the listening experience. The panning hurts my little brain. Most of the songs feel like b sides from once upon a time in Hollywood

Any major dude will tell you that I’m a Stan for the Dan. Get out your house coats, brandy, and stogies for this one.

Not my bag, although had some fun with it. First few songs were choppy, enjoyed the back half more, picked up some nonagon infinity vibes. Added a song or two to my workout playlist.

BIG BIG MONKEY MAN

This rules, amazing drumming. Love the vocals and Latin influence. I think this could turn into a 5 down the road, it’s a lot to digest

Interesting to hear some grunge from someone other than a depressed white guy

Gotta respect the man, he was not resting on his laurels. Solid rock album. Some hints of what was to come on Blackstar. 53 minutes felt a little long. I definitely prefer my Bowie coked up.

Each song in the back half gets slower, just when you think it can’t get slower they hit you with the overload

This one took a long time to digest, but it’s a favourite now. Just a big shambling 60s juggernaut. Favourite cuts are One of Us Must Know, Visions, & Sad Eyed Lady
