What an amazing album with some of my most favourite songs.
Queen never fail to amaze
Great songs, but i mean like its not like pink floyd level. not massively my stuff either but i mean, still i do enjoy it.
WOW!! Such a strong start, I love funk - may be my favourite genre outside of classic pop, rock etc. Roundabout felt orgasmic.
South Side of the Sky amazing, loved it.
Heart of the sunrise I love too.
Honestly amazing album, outstanding instrumentals.
not christmas anymore, quite a seasonal dependant album
Definitely a journey.
I liked the first two songs. Following i felt it got a bit. Slow and boring.
Picked up again, really loved red hill mining town, in gods country and trip through your wires. The latter felt Led Zeppelin III inspired with folky elements which i love.
The album then went down again towards the end but wasnt as bad as prior.
You can really hear how inhaler took inspiration from some of these songs, who are bono’s son’s band.
Probably wouldnt listen to whole album again but definitely the few songs i liked.
Id probably rate it a 3.5, but will round up to a 4.
I like rap and rnb a lot, and I would say I’ve listened a good variety. I really love a lot of the songs on here, but they doesn't jump out at me compared to the other stuff I generally tend to prefer. For that reason its a 4 not a 5.
I love the happy mondays, but this isnt their finest. now bad either.
Definitely not my thing at the start, which is unusual as I like pretty much every genre. I couldn't really get into it not matter how hard i tried. I did however really enjoy ‘Drop Out’ but that was let down again when i was reminded in ‘Used that the singer sounds like he needs to clear his throat and the chorus in ‘Ball Lightening”:
‘He can’t hold a dead pig
It’s all fine while you’re cryin’
You want some cheese with your whine’
I like some differentiation in albums with this type of music and there isn't enough here for me. I doubt I will ever want to or will listen to this again. No thank you.
On this album, Ellington demonstrates why he is as revered as he is within jazz circles worldwide. He showcase is not only his immense talent as a performer, being a remarkable, jazz, pianist, and among the best ever come out of the genre, mixing classic bebop styles and experimenting more into the Davis-esque ‘modal jazz’ style but also by showing his otherworldly talent as a songwriter writing many of the jazz standards modern musicians praise today for the use of harmony and unique chord progressions.
Overall Ellington in Newport provides a deep insight into the mind of the creative genius who created these tracks and is a testament to his everlasting legacy and imprint upon the world of jazz.
He is and always will be a favourite with me.
Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Bland and repetitive.
Bit too country for me, lacks wow factor.
Sorry George Jones.
Masterpiece. Good music for sitting on a train and looking out of the window. Nike Drake is amazing and i love him. I still dont think its on the same level as pink floyd. i think pink floyd is on the same level as beatles and so i will use them as a comparison. still, i listen to this album in my own time. his music is amazing for quiet moments to yourself. beautiful and emotion evoking
Like Pretty Baby, Will Anything happen, sunday girl . Theres a 40% chance ill go out if my way to lisyen to the album, but if some songs are oj a playlist probably wouldn’t skip. Feels as though it should be a 4 as its blondie, but id probably rate it a 3,5/3.75.
Just finished listening, would rate the album a solid 4 as i feel Heart of Glass redemed the whole thing.
Blondie is amazing, and the album is definitely good, i just dont enjoy it as much as it doesnt have that extra sparkle or anything that makes me think, I need to listen to this in my own time. SO its a 4 for the point of this, but i would probably rate it for my liking a 3.5-3.75
The album objectively is probably 4.25, partially because its blondie and heart of glass is so culturally significant.
Not horrific but not really something i like that much. Why is it so noisy. Theres a bit too much going on for me, or maybe i am just listening at a time where i feel overwhelmed and this album is accentuating it.
I think i would enjoy it if i was feeling angry, but I generally tend to prefer music with a more lyrical quality to the singing. This feels like I am being shouted at by an ambush of twenty year olds who smoke all the time.
Why does every song basically sound the same. Don't like this very much, happy its over.
I preferred this to 'The Joshua Tree' from U2 because it was a lot more engaging.
Really like the baseline of the first track but i am not as keen on the effects on the singing.
I enjoyed the music in ‘One’.
Enjoy the instrumentals on ‘until the end of the world’, the guitar especially, I really like the melody.
Really liked Mysterious ways too.
Overall, this album was enjoyable, but there were a few songs which were a struggle not to yawn at. I will rate it a weak three, as I feel i should be a bit harsher on my ratings. There were a few songs which I did really enjoy, but overall this album is not deserving of anything more.
I know and love Jimi Hendrix to large extents, and so I had high hopes when listening to this album because I know how much of a mastermind he is as a guitarist and musician. However, I found countless tracks let down my expectations in a exhaustingly boring manner.
I liked his improvisation with the pentatonic scale for 'come on (let the good times roll)' as well as the obvious 'All along the watch tower' and 'Vodoo child'. However, these saving graces weren't enough to rescue the unexciting and unrelieved rest of the album.
A very disappointed 3.
This album completely completely blew me away in the best possible ways.
I knew Herbie Hancock before but I hadn't listed to an album fully. The fusion of funk and jazz spoke to me and the fact that the songs were all very long and instrumental made this even better! I felt like I flowed with the music in a way where it moved in the way I wanted and imagined it. Hankcock's passion felt tangible and raw. The whole experience felt intimate but equally explosive and I feel just completely energised.
My only take back was there was aspects of 'Watermelon man' which felt Dr Octagonecologystesque - with the Mickey Mouse voice in 'Trip to the gynecologist' in particular. However I feel this wouldn't matter or occur to me if i hadn't heard that album first.
Tacky and distasteful. The only good thing about this album was the first song, the rest was a whiney mess.
The only time this album would ever be good would be if I was in a cringe 2000s romance film where I fell in love with my best friend's brother.
Thank God its over
this album is what overstimulation feels like to me
and i had to listen to it when i was in peak overstimulation
please never again, i beg
i feel like my skin is being ripped off, my ears grenaded and my soul smashed to tiny pieces.
it definitely wasn't bad, but to me it felt dull and uninteresting.
i have heard of him before, never listened - probably won't again.
No songs i outrightly enjoyed so i suppose its a 2 but not in critical way, just deserves nothing more.
His singing in Jack the Ripper is atrocious
this is a hard one for me.
i used to love this album so much and i listened to it alot in summer 2024 to the new year, however i feel it just doesn’t hit the same anymore.
there are alot of really good songs on here and a few not so much - but my favourite always was and always has been shiver and i found after listening to this album i had it stuck in my head all day so i think for that reason i will round a 3.5 up to a 4
I am unsure whether this will be a hot take, but i really enjoyed this album
Although I found the singing to be slightly insufferable at times, the music was thoroughly enjoyable.
I am not sure whether it is a 3 or a 4, because I feel like i definitely enjoyed it more than a three - but four is definitely reserved for very good albums.
i usually love this kind of music but my expectations were let down slightly i fear.
i was bored for most of it and i dont really have much else to say
I really really love neil young and whilst i recognised alot of the songs on this album, i was slightly disappointed in his lack of differentiation
nothing wowed me, it was just ok
why, why, why.
painfully boring, exhaustingly unenthusiastic, excessively yawny
i had hope in the bee gees - safe to say that was through extinguished with this album
