Listened to this a lot growing up so much so that I know it word to word, beat to beat. Takes me back with a bit of nostalgia and the fear too! I think having seen The Wall live by Roger Waters and also tribute Pink Floyd acts, it adds to the power of the concept album. Overall one of my top albums ever.
Maybe if I was younger. But apart from their song Self Esteem, two songs from Blink 182 and Green Day...this punk rock era did not really click with me.
Listened to before? No.....Listen to again? No.....Previously known songs? Self Esteem....New songs liked? Gotta Get Away
A great album for me has the instant connections followed by 'growers'. This album is a perfect example where there are the instant hits like Seven Nation Army, and while there are a few fillers (reason for not getting a 5) there was many growers like In The Cold, Cold Night, Button to Button, Little Acorns & Hypnotise. Great stripped back rock that made us wipe the dust off our electric guitars at the time....Be like the squirrel!
I've tried this album a few times over the years and not for me. Appreciate the influence it had and the musicianship in particular the drum and double bass but the claranet just gives me anxiety. If I had to listen to jazz it's probably the slower smoother stuff.
After yesterday's jazz (John Coltrane A Love Supreme) my initial thought was, Oh No! Not more Jazz! However I enjoyed this listen finding it less intense and causing less anxiety than A Love Supreme!! If I had to listen to jazz again, this would be top of my list. A good example of how 1001 album generator expands the palate!
Outside of the hits, while this is regarded as a classic album the other songs are...ok. The Only Living Boy In New York is my fav S&G song. Struggling between a 3 and a 4 so after a vinyl listen last night did the car test today. Landed on a 3.
Outside of the first and last songs, forgettable. Could not finish. Appreciate it for its own genre, storytelling type songs and guitar playing but not for me.
Great album which I may put on once a year or so. I only listen to 3 or 4 Stones albums and Exile is their 5 star album for me. Wild Horses while different from the bluesy them is one of their best.
I cannot really fault this album. It is the only Coldplay album I would listen to now. Have to step back from the its on trend to dislike Coldplay and remember how it felt like to listen to this album when it came out in 2000...and that was a good feeling.
What is this doing here.
Haven't heard of before. Enjoyed as well as reading about the Pavement connection
CCR have been a Greatest Hits band for me. Happy to get exposed to this album. Will revisit and probably add to the record collection!
20 seconds was enough. Anxiety Jazz is not for me. I reckon this album is used in Guantánamo.
Knew two songs. Fan of both artists.but never gave the album full attention. Great Woodie project. Will listen again.
Don't care much for this side of Waits discography
