Pleasantly surprised after assuming I wouldn’t be a fan. Particularly liked track 1 - mother and child reunion and track 10 - paranoia blues. Liked the eclectic genres used and every song felt very different.
So I just didn’t gel with it. I knew the title song and have never enjoyed it. I found all the songs blurred into one other than track 9. I can see that the lyrics are poetic and it must have been very unique at the time but I just didn’t enjoy listening to it.
A fantastically unexpected love. I had literally only heard that one very famous Pogues song so didn’t have any expectations from the album. But the Celtic jauntiness with meaningful lyrics and some real passion meant I really enjoyed this album.
What a brilliant album! I loved the style and blending of genres and each song felt so unique yet fused well. It is a band and an album that I had never heard of but will be wanting to listen to more of.
What a masterpiece! I was already aware of Public Enemy but had never listened to this album in its entirety. The political statements are just as relevant today as they were then and the way you can feel the anger through the music is powerful and intense. The lyrical choices are sublime and I particularly felt this was apt - “because no man is God and God put us all here” - I think many people need to hear and understand this line now!
So musically this album was great - the guitars, the drums and the bass - wow! But…I’m just not a fan of the singers voice. It’s not a bad voice obviously he can sing but it’s just not the sort of voice I gel with and I found 10 tracks of that voice in one go to be a lot. By no means a bad album but just not my vibe
Not my style unfortunately and just generally didn’t enjoy the album
Really enjoyed this album. It felt interesting and unique. The music was a joy, the lyrics eclectic and the voice was compelling. I will certainly be re-listening to this!
High energy, lots of innuendo and so much groove! Really enjoyed many of the tracks on this album and am looking forward to exploring more songs from Little Richard. It was clearly a ground breaking album at the time and I think the hype is deserved.
A fine album with a few solid songs but it felt quite samey after a few tracks.
This was just awful - I’m sorry as I know so may people love it and Genesis but I just couldn’t find anything about it I liked. Just no redeeming features at all for me - I didn’t like the lyrics which felt trite, I didn’t like Peter Gabriel’s voice, the songs felt so boring. It was a no from me sadly.
I really like Dolly and have heard many of her songs but I didn’t feel this was my favourite album of hers. Some of the songs were catchy and the lyrics are always so interesting and fun. I would certainly relisten but it wouldn’t be the album of hers I would say is my favourite
I really like Jack White and I really enjoyed this album. His style and vocals are amazing but the lyrics really just smash it out the park! A great album with so many great tracks
I find this really hard to rate. I am not a jazz connoisseur and really appreciated the first track and being introduced to such an electric sound but by the third track I just felt done with it. It quickly turned into a kind of background noise rather than me settling into it. Perhaps I’m just not a jazz girl!
Not an artist or album I had listened to before but damn it was fun! The rhythm was so contagious and it has introduced me to a genre of music I am fairly unfamiliar with but will be exploring more! Overall the album itself wasn’t my favourite so I can’t quite give it 5 stars but I still really enjoyed it
Ok so it’s Bob Dylan. I know that so many people absolutely love him and I totally understand how important he was in shaping music for a time. But an entire album of Dylan feels like a lot. The odd song here and there from his is fantastic but after a few Dylan songs in a row I could feel my mood lowering. To give credit where it is due it is a beautifully written album and I would happily listen to a track here and there but just not all in one go
So clearly this album has not aged well with its lyrical choices especially. There were big chunks where I kinda forgot it was a Dre album as there was so much Snoop on it. But having said that it was very significant to Hip Hop when it came out and you can see how much it influenced the music scene which was so important. I don’t think I would choose to listen to the full album again so I can’t score it highly but it was an interesting listen
Mr Yoakam needs to see a therapist and stop writing such angry country music.
I love me some country music but this got to be a hard listen after so many songs about a woman leaving him and him seemingly getting more and more deranged about it. Not an album I would listen to again and I hope his subject matter has evolved as time has passed.
What an album! It’s full of joy, fun, great music, wonderful Melodies, catchy lyrics and all around is just a total banger of an album! Starting with ‘when I kissed the teacher’ had me worried but apart from that slightly inappropriate start every song was so good!
Why is this in the list? I literally could not come up with any positives about this album and it has zero redeeming features! I just really disliked it and hope to never listen to it again
I found this hard to listen to and was so tempted to not finish the whole album. It just wasn’t my vibe and I couldn’t find anything much that I enjoyed about it. There were a few bits of instrumentals that were good but it never felt enough.
What an album!!! Devastating, beautiful, hard-hitting and so needed. It was sad to see how little has changed since this album was released. I knew Fast Car and Baby can I hold you but didn’t know most of the others. I feel grateful to have listened to it though and will now become that annoying friend who recommends it to everyone else!
I mean it’s so fun! I didn’t know many of the tracks prior to listening to this album but I couldn’t help but groove along, sing to the catchy lyrics and dance away. It brings happy vibes and honestly I think it’s aged pretty well!
So many fantastic songs on this album but overall it felt very simple and I found I was losing attention to it. It’s by no means a bad album I think it was just a lot of the same vibe and chord progressions. The songs themselves I would listen to many again but the album as a whole I probably wouldn’t
What an utterly brilliant album. The songs feel so hard hitting and emotional but maintain this Motown vibe. The subjects the songs cover are wide ranging and yet the whole album feels very cohesive. Looking forward to re-listening to this already!
Baffled as to why this album is on this chart. No redeeming qualities and should be archived in my opinion. To say the least, I did not like it!
Simply spectacular! The eccentricity and fun, the turmoil and sadness, the guitar and THE voice! It was just wonderful! I even found the unusual love letter to a car weirdly worked alongside all these other incredible songs! Loved it all
