Finished listening, love the soul and otis redding vibe but just not really my vibe
First listen and love the vibe and definitely an album I have added to my library. Can defo see where Lauryn Hill took inspo from Something id listen to on a daily
not my vibe but can see why people might like it
Starts off so fun Taj Mahal has such an addictive groove, had me moving. Very much Brazilian music, very tropical and organic. LOVE Album follows kinda same genre throughout so if you like the album as it starts you'll likely enjoy it throughout The BPM increase at Cavaleiro Do Cavalo Imaculado scratched an itch for me and the instruments in the background?? - reminds me of Working Day and Night by MJ Not really something that’d be on repeat but great album
- love the rap and the vibe; one that imma listen to again - reminds me of Ex-factor by Lauryn Hill - has that typical early 2000s rap hip/hop feel - smooth transitions - can imagine myself playing this in the car - especially You, We Fight/We Love Favs: - won't trade - gettin up - You - wefight/welove - good thang Something I’d listen to on a daily
- Quite like Tiny Dancer - Love Elton Johns voice - kinda gives me a bit of country vibes - love the instruments - kinda album i'd put on while having a warm candle-lit bath or in the car - not really my genre though but has great production - related to All the Nasties - nice ending Songs I liked: - Tiny Dancer - Rotten Peaches - All the Nasties
Enjoyability: 4/5 - would listen often Production: 5/5 - love the psychadelic aspect of it and can tell they really experimented and enjoyed the process - also really like the spanish taste in wildfire Songs liked: (6/11) x 5 Cohesion: 4/5 - everything does flow into eachother really well Songwriting: 4.5/5 - very story-telling and quite poetic
Idk didn't vibe that much with it Production I gave it a 5 Enjoability: 3 Songwriting: 5 - found Your dictionary interesting for sure, a dig at both his wife and religious people who fail to comply with love thy neighbour - which is sad to see and hear the church hurt as well Cohesion: 4 Songs liked: 3/11
Very much enjoyed this album tbh at first i had my doubts but it took me by surprise Production: 4 Songwriting: 4 Cohesion: 4 Enjoyability: 4.5 Songs liked: 5/13
Production: 4 - love the guitar in Night by night Songwriting: 4 Enjoyability: 3.5 Cohesion: 3.5 Songs liked: 5/11 Reminds me of Jon batiste at times Sorta album I could put in the background and just vibe but wouldn’t like be a first pick does have the potential to grow on me though
Enjoyability: 2.5 starts strong - I like how it sounds but its more of a background, jazz bar sort of vibe not something I’d re-play unless I was having time with friends and we wanted some background music or like mario kart music Production: 4 - sounds well made Cohesion: 4.5 - all sounds from the same album Influence: 4 - can definetley hear how it may have shaped later and modern jazz Composition: 4 well made composition throughout but also kinda all sounds thre same
Production: 4 - enjoying the production as a whole, little hidden instrumentals - House, disco grooves - Sounds finished Composition: 3.5 - good, repetitive and catchy melodies but didn’t find anything much profound yk whereas if I compare it to In Love by Prince, I find that to have a better composition - The lyrics that there are match the melodie and mood of the song and catchy Enjoyability: 4 - now this is more like my sort of jam, giving me renaissance, MJ, prince vibes - Who doesn’t love le freak? - Very groovy and joyful album Cohesion: 5 - each song is its own world within this body of work, but all follow the same concept in the sense of lovely groovy beats with little repetitive lyrics Songs liked: 4/8 - Can understand where they took influence from and kind of made it their own sound but also notice how they shaped future house/disco sound
Production: 4 - sounds complete, lovely production and eveything sounds layered - great vocal layering - balanced musically in general - Great instrumentals Enjoyability: 1.5 - its alr but idk, not something I’d get obsessed with, kind of boring - Was looking forward to finish the album Songwriting / composition: 3 - imagery-rich writing but again quite simple - Good use of repetition - Nothing really profound Cohesion: 4 - uses consistent instrumentation and similar mixing styles and sound like they come from the same body of work Songs liked: 2/12
Production: 3.2 - Mix is balanced, bass, instruments and vocals appear to be on the same level and words are audible - On the first song the vocals do not sit perfectly on top of the mix, it’s actually a mess; beat does not match the rappiung and vocal layering is awful at first BUT it actually does get fixed throughout the album - Uses low qaulity patcvhes and texture which gives the album a quite, “I just started this” feel but manages to make it work - Album is polished and holds up acoustically - A bit of a messy dynamic depth as the build up to the chorus and back to the verse is a bit meh Enjoyability: 1.5 Grabs your attention within 10 seconds, the mix might actually make you want to turn it off but the lyrics and songwriting are well written, deep and personal which I love; Makes the listener reflect - Very little replay value for me - Would not fit into modern playlists or radio unless it’s a local radio - Melody and groove do not get stuck in your head due to the messy mix and production Songwriting: 4 - Uses strong literary devices and clearly tells a personal story - Lyrics match the the song, mood and uses some contour - Belive sections stay at the exact same volume and intensity the whole time but has some form - Lyrics grab you quickly as they are quite descriptive perfectly allowing you to imagine the scenes presented Cohesion: 2.5 - Each songs sticks to a clear emotional story arc from start to finish - Choice of sound and instruments DO NOT belong in the same universe and has too many mismatched insturments and beats which do not support the rapper - Successfully leans into grime / uk rap - Handoffs between sections feel ok, has room for improvement though- it’s kind of like picking up the phone from a friend who’s life just doesn’t seem to have a break Songs liked: 2/11
Production: 4.5 - Mix is clean and can distinguish different instruments - Lead vocal sounds professional - Appears to use balanced but good -quality sound - Mix breathes naturally around the track - Tracks are polished and hold up acoustically Enjoyability: 4 - Songs grab my attention within the first few seconds due to the rap and beat style - luv - Leaves me wanting to keep listening - Makes me nod to the beat - Has a clear audiennce - Some vibes and beats get stuck in your head but it does get a bit repetitive / little innovation Lyrics: 4 - Each song clearly tells a story and has great use of rhymes - Lyrics match the theme of the song - No real clear distinguishable sections, its kind of open verse in the sense there is no verse & chorus and that it just keeps going telling a story. I’d argue it has form as it doesn’t seen aimless or accidental but rather done on purpose - Haven’t found an immediate catchy phrase - Ending of songs feel natural and sometimes lead to other songs but sometimes ending feels a bit forced to just end the song Cohesion: 5 - Songs stick to a clear theme - Choice of instruments, mix and the lot feel like they belong in the same body of work - Mix supports the rappers rather than fighting for space - Album successfully leans into intended genre and I’d argue it helped shape the genre itself - I say this because I can hear how current rap / rappers have taken influence from this album - Transition and flows appear natural Songs liked: 5/14
Production: 4 Can easily distinguish between drum, kick, saxaphone, trombone and the lot although the bass/kick is a bit quiet / low quality Vocal delivery sits perfectly on top of the instruments but it kind of feels like the instruments are fighting for space Sound design and texture uses live recordings that give it a rich, vintage kind of feel Uses volume changes to build up energy Album appears to be polished with no sound distortion and stuff BUT again, the drum kick / bass is a bit quiet probably due to the recording style which was analog tapes so kick / drum may be a bit compressed Enjoyability: 4 The albums fast paced tracks grab my attention within the first few seconds Little to medium replay value for me Invokes the desire to dance on the listener Has a clear target audience, those wanting that 50s style jazz music and would fit on that genre’s radio station Melody and groove have some memorablle moments but gets overly repetitive Cohesion: 4 - Has a clear danceable mood - Songs fit together but gets a bit repetetive towards the end of the album - Vocals and instruments work together although sometimes one is louder than the other - Style feels intentional - Flows naturally Lyrics: 1.5/2 - Romantic and meaningful - Has some memorable lines but a bit cliché Composition: 1.5/3 - I remember some parts after the album but t kind of all bleeds into one as album kind of all sounds the same - Has good rhythms and arrangements Songs liked: 1/14
COHESION - Each song follows a similar chant like structure within the album making the songs work alongside each other - Vocals and instruments work in synergy - As I mention in composition, the style and chantlike structure appears to be on purpose. - Transition between songs feels natural PRODUCTION - Easy to hear everything as vocals sit perfectly on top of the instruments - Vocals sound good and raw - Instruments/sounds fit the music - thoughtful energy changes by having a consistent sound in the background and the vocals are what change the rhythm of the songs - great use of live recording giving it an intimate feel to the album but due to the live recording nature of it, there are moments where you can tell the production is not isolated ENJOYABILITY - An album that could be in the background for me, don’t hate it but don’t love it but did enjoy the vibe as it reminded me of my culture - o bailinho da Madeira as well - Neutral on the replay value for me as I mentioned, it could be in the background but wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it - Quite a fun and happy album to have on - Fans of this genre and culture would and do appreciate the art of this album - Memorable afterwards due to the vocal layering and the rhythm of the songs; album as a whole show that worship does not need to be always a calm, soothing song can also be an upbeat, catchy chant - Reminds me of the music used in the Yellow Sand for Black Myth Wukong COMPOSITION - Repetitive song structure which I believe is the whole point as it is meant to be kind of a chant / worship - Good musical ideas with good use of Riffs, harmonies, rhythms and vocal arrangements - Use of repetition creates a catchy melody that makes each song memorable but since each song uses the same structure, it can all sound the same Songs liked: 2/6 TECHNICAL DETAIL - I noticed that the album was mostly a live recording and the singers were controlling the tempo and BPM and the instruments followed EMOTIONAL IMPACT - Made me feel appreciative of the art and Qawwali music Best Tracks: - Haq ali ali haq - Ali maula ali maula ali dam dam
Production: - I can easily distinguish between the different insturments used. This means that the album has a professional recording to it with the use of live insruments and synths - However, at times it does feel like the voice is fighting for space or are more towards the back whereas the instruments are more forward; this can make it unclear what the singer is portraying Enjoyability: - The tracks in this album do not catch my attention and has low replay value for me - Fans of this genre would enjoy it although it is a bit slow, but I can definitely see someone just putting this on and chill - For me personally, this album is not really memorable mostly because the vocals did not have much variation - I do however, appreciate the use of instruments, synths and sounds used to create this album as they work together Cohesion: - The album follows a clear quite melancholic mood to it throughout - Songs fit together as a whole - As mentioned in production, the vocals appear to be more towards the back of the recording whereas the sound is more forward silencing the singer at times - Style of the album is intentional and matches the mood of it with a natural flow from song to song Lyrics & Composition: - Meaningful and reminiscing lyrics with memorable imagery - Has some good melodies but due to the lack of variation in the vocals it can come across as monotone sometimes - The tracks avoid feeling repetitive with the use of different musical ideas through the use of harmonies and arrangements Technical detail: - One thing I noticed in this album is that they have used a good variety of musical instruments, analog and electronic gear and have perfectly captured the emotions through it Emotional Impact: - Made me reflect on past romances but overall, the album was a bit boring for me as there was not much variation apart from Tinseltown in the Rain Best Track: Tinseltown in the Rain One thing I’d remember about this album in a month is its good use of analog and electronic gear to make a unique sound. The album did struggle to keep me engaged however
Cohesion: - Songs are focused on a clear story - Instruments and production feels like they belong together - Perfomance suits the beat and mood - Story telling rap that bridges the sections toegether - Style seems intentional rather than confused Production: - Does sound like the rapper is fighting with the sound as theyre on the same level of volume so vocals arent that clear - Vocal recording has that 2000 feel which seems intentional - Good quality of samples and recordings - Tracks sound finished. Songwriting: - Storytelling and cinematic incorporates live recordings in the interludes which immerses you in the album and also makes the album flow naturally as each interlude links to the song and vice versa - Has some memorable beats but after the first few songs they all belong in the same family so not much of a variety - Songs develop without repeating without purpose - Reaches a satisfying ending Enjoyment: - Not that mentally stimulating as its struggled to keep me engaged - Made me reflect - I can recall bits of the moment after it ends mostly the storytelling - What I can remember after it ends is its - Balanced production, has that 2000s feel - Some of the interludes remind me of Cowboy Carter Radio Kntry which Beyonce may have taken inspiration from - kinda makes you join the world of the album - Low to medium replay value to me Songs liked: 4/27
Cohesion: - Songs are focused on clear genre - jazz - Instruments and sound belong in the same room to create the jazz sound as we know it - Uses great structure from beginning to end and the style Production: - Well produced recording with use of live instruments - Can hear different instruments used like piano, saxophone, bass and drums which feel convincing and have a great balance of sound - Tracks feel and sound finished and complete - The way they have arranged drums and kicks to be towards the back of he tracks and higher frequency instruments like saxophone and piano toward the front give it an immersive experience of being in a jazz bar Songwriting / Composition - Main instrument is compelling lead by the saxophones or piano at times - Each song has a memorable beat but repeats it too often making it monotone - Reaches a satisfying climax Enjoyability: - Overall, album failed to hold my attention due to it sounding monotone - Low replay value and personal connection - What I can recall after the album ends is the use of different instruments to create this jazz album Songs liked: 1/5 Type of album I’d put on in the background if I was in a jazz mood but very rare
Cohesion: 5/5 Theme & Narrative: 1/1 Sonic Identity: /1 Arrangement Synergy: /1 Genre Authenticity; 1/1 Transitions & Flow; 1/1 Production: 4.5/5 Clarity & Balance; 0.5/1 - Bits when the vocals are same level as the sound making some bits difficult to hear Vocal Delivery; 1/1 Sound Design; /1 Dynamic Depth; /1 Mastering; /1 Enjoyability: 3.5/5 Immediate Engagement; 0.5/1 Replay Value; 1/1 Emotional Resonance; 0.5/1 Playlist Potential; 1/1 Sticking Power; 0.5/1 Songwriting: 4.5/5 Lyrics; 1/1 Melody; 1/1 Structure & Contrast; 1/1 Hook; 0.5/1 Prosody & Emotional Resolution; 1/1 Favourite Songs: 5/11 - rehab - you know i'm no good - Me & Mr Jones - Back to Black - Tears dry on their own Final Thoughts: - Successfully understand how this record has paved the way for artists like Adele, Raye, Sienna Spiro and more - Theres some sort of texture on the microphone that gives that 60s girl groups texture and feel which was the idea I believe
Cohesion: 5/5 Theme & Narrative: 1/1 - Seems like they were going for the hippy / alternative mood Sonic Identity: 1/1 Arrangement Synergy: 1/1 Genre Authenticity; 1/1 Transitions & Flow; 1/1 Production: 4.5/5 Clarity & Balance; 0.5/1 - Some sort of balance between sound and vocalist but at least on the very first song the vocals were unclear Vocal Delivery; 1/1 Sound Design; 1/1 Dynamic Depth; 1/1 Mastering; 1/1 Enjoyability: 2/5 Immediate Engagement; 0.5/1 Replay Value; 0/1 Emotional Resonance; 0/1 Playlist Potential; 0.5/1 Memorability; 1/1 Songwriting: 3.5/5 Lyrics; 1/1 Melody; 1/1 Structure & Contrast; 1/1 Hook; 0/1 Prosody & Emotional Resolution; 0.5/1 Favourite Songs: 2/11 - Kowalski - Medication Final Thoughts: - Very experimental and quite psychedelic album - Doesn’t do much for me unfortunately
Cohesion: 5/5 Theme & Narrative: 1/1 Sonic Identity: 1/1 Arrangement Synergy: 1/1 Genre Authenticity; 1/1 Transitions & Flow; 1/1 - Rating it high in cohesion as I couldn’t tell sometimes if we have moved on to a new song or not which means the album is high in cohesion - Could also mean that I found it monotone at times since I couldn’t tell if I was on a new song or not Production: 5/5 Clarity & Balance; 1/1 Instrumental Performance: 1/1 Sound Design; 1/1 Dynamic Depth; 1/1 Mastering; 1/1 Enjoyability: 2/5 Immediate Engagement; 0.5/1 - At times it did keep me enageged but only a couple tracks Replay Value; 0.5/1 Emotional Resonance; 0/1 Playlist Potential; 0.5/1 Sticking Power; 0/1 Composition: 3.5/5 Melodic Development: 0.5/1 Harmonic Progression: 1/1 Structure & Contrast: 1/1 Motif / Theme Usage: 1/1 Emotional Storytelling: 0/1 Favourite Songs: 2/11 - Three Little Birdies Down Bea - Fuck Up Beats Final Thoughts: - Kind of album I’d probably have in the background while gaming - Great production - Kind of boring as it feels like ive been listening to the same song most of the time so, not much variation
Cohesion: 4.5/5 Theme & Narrative: 0.5/1 Sonic Identity: 1/1 Arrangement Synergy: 1/1 Genre Authenticity: 1/1 Transitions & Flow: 1/1 Production: 5/5 Clarity & Balance: 1/1 Instrumental Performance: 1/1 Sound Design: 1/1 Dynamic Depth: 1/1 Mastering: 1/1 Enjoyability: 4/5 Immediate Engagement: 0.5/1 Replay Value: 1/1 Emotional Resonance: 0.5/1 Playlist Potential: 1/1 Sticking Power: 1/1 Songwriting: 5/5 Lyrics: 1/1 Melody: 1/1 Structure & Contrast: 1/1 Hook: 1/1 Prosody & Emotional Resolution: 1/1 Favourite Songs: 5/13 - Senorita - Like I love you - (Oh no) what you got - Cry me a river - Rock your body Final Thoughts: - very much 2000s sound - Such a throwback - Can tell why he was so popular Back then - Full of bops and some intimate moments - Feel like the intimate moments could have been a separate album
Cohesion: 4.5/5 Theme & Narrative: 0.5/1 Sonic Identity: 1/1 Arrangement Synergy: 1/1 Genre Authenticity; 1/1 Transitions & Flow; 1/1 Production: 4.5/5 Clarity & Balance; 1/1 Vocal Delivery; 0.5/1 Sound Design; 1/1 Dynamic Depth; 1/1 Mastering; 1/1 Enjoyability: 3/5 Immediate Engagement; 1/1 Replay Value; 0.5/1 Emotional Resonance; 0.5/1 Playlist Potential; 0.5/1 Sticking Power; 0.5/1 Composition: 4/5 Melodic Development: 1/1 Harmonic Progression: 1/1 Structure & Contrast: 1/1 Motif / Theme Usage: 1/1 Emotional Storytelling: 0/1 Favourite Songs: 3/15 - Rendez-vu - Yo Yo - Red Alert Final Thoughts: - Quite enjoyed this alternative, experimental electronic body of work - Can understand their influence - More of a background electronic kind of album - Reminds me of Bjork at times

Cohesion: 4.25/5 Theme & Narrative: 0.5/1 Sonic Identity: 0.25/1 Arrangement Synergy: 1/1 Genre Authenticity; 1/1 Transitions & Flow; 1/1 Production: 4.5/5 Clarity & Balance; 1/1 Instrument Delivery; 1/1 Sound Design; 1/1 Dynamic Depth; 1/1 Mastering; 0.5/1 Enjoyability: 2.05/5 Immediate Engagement; 0.25/1 Replay Value; 0.25/1 Emotional Resonance; 1/1 Playlist Potential; 0.3/1 Sticking Power; 0.25/1 Composition: 4.25/5 Melodic Development: 1/1 Harmonic Progression: 1/1 Structure & Contrast: 0.5/1 Motif / Theme Usage: 1/1 Emotional Storytelling: 0.75/1 Favourite Songs: 3/10 Final Thoughts: - Through the use of the sound the artist made me feel happy, jivey when upbeat and calmness or turmoil when down beat and a bit raspy like in Inner Crisis - Some of the tracks have that white noise static in the background - Enjoyed the 3D aspect of Ingoo Pow-Pow
