A little boring at times, but overall not too bad. Decent punk record with a few slower songs and a few forgettable tracks but also a few nice highlights and solid, banging riffs. Vocals sound a bit grating/hidden at times which is a shame and the many tracks that don't have much to say or don't really leave a lasting impact don't outweigh the few good ones. 2/2.5.
Surprisingly good. Really enjoyed it. Some songs aged not as gracefully but for the most part it's really quite solid. Really fun, catchy and interesting 70s era pop that is obviously a hallmark, or cornerstone, for the music we're accustomed to today. Not to say Todd Rundgren has been a visionary of what we know as music now, but it still is quite nice. Bit on the longer side with 25 songs but there were few songs I didn't like. Highlights: I Saw the Light, Wolfman Jack, It Takes Two to Tango, Little Red Lights, Hello It's Me
3.5 out of 5
Fun rock album. The first four songs really hooked me in particular although it lost me with the middle part (except for the big hits), until picking back up again near the end. Most songs feel a little bit same-y though, which is unfortunate. But I can't deny they sound really tight on this record, and the musicianship is awesome to listen to. 3.5/5
Abrasive, strange, totally different than what I'm used to or expected. Every song seems to follow a different structure altogether. The album feels like a bit of a weird rollercoaster, and after you're done with it you're not sure whether you liked it or not. That's how I feel about this lol. I understand the influence this had on the grunge/alt-rock scheme in the following years, but this just didn't grab me like I expected it to. Viewed in the lens of completely personal, subjective enjoyment I'd be lying if I rated this higher than a 2.5/5, which feels very weird. I do believe this could grow on me though.
It's pretty good. Soulful vibes, soulful voice and an awesome feel-good energy all around. Great to listen to while walking through the forest or the park on a sunny day, or an evening drive. Just a soothing, comfortable listen. Must say that the first half of the album grabbed me a lot better than the second half, but it's still perfectly enjoyable. 3.5/5.
It's alright. I appreciate the weirdness, but the whole thing just didn't really latch onto me. It's like a weird mix of electronic rock, trap, trip-hop and whatever else. That may sound very eccentric and special, but the album doesn't really deliver on that regard. To me, it's all kind of... bland. Vocalist also doesn't seem like he cares a lot. 2/5.
Honestly I really enjoyed this. After so many eccentric and out-there records, a nice and grounded pop/R&B album is such a sweet, refreshing change of pace.
The melodies are silky smooth, much like the vocals. The individual tracks aren't that groundbreaking or challenging, but that's alright. Listening to this in a cafe with a warm coffee and a sunny day out makes your whole day brighter. It just kinda feels like home.
Only thing I could say is that the album is on the longer side, and with the tracks being relatively safe, it can feel a little same-y near the end. 4/5.
Loved it. Great tunes all around, super creative and interesting record. Not a single track felt boring, the album has a very cohesive feel and theme throughout but somehow each track feels unique in its own way too. So many memorable moments. Will definitely be returning to this in the future. 5/5.
Some really, really good songs on here like When Will They Shoot?, It Was A Good Day and Check Yo Self. It kinda feels like every track where Ice raps like rent is due is followed by a very... okay (at best) track.
It's 90s gangsta rap so misogyny is (unfortunately) rampant on the record, which is incredibly hypocritical on a record which is primarily about the struggles of a black man growing up and living in America, but I digress.
The themes that are topical in terms of the broader theme across the record (a.k.a. racism) are very well laid out, and it's kind of scary to see that very little has changed in nearly 3 decades.
If a few weaker tracks were cut from record I could give this a higher score, I feel like. But 3/5 as it stands.
This album is so beautifully weird and I loved it. The vocals are insanely strong, what a presence the lead singer has, it's ridiculous. The guitar and drums are also top-notch and a treat to listen to.
It's really cool to see the influence this album/artist has had on modern tracks, you can find it sprinkled across the album. 4/5.
This album is such a treat. From beginning to end it hits with sharp, glitchy beats and incredibly fun and catchy mixes of a heavy dose of house and disco, combined with influences of metal, prog and rock.
But make no mistake, this is a French House album through and through, with, in my opinion, something for everyone to enjoy. Catchy highlights like D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO, or the prog-influenced funk-fiesta Phantom Pt. I and Pt. II duo, which are not long after being followed by the intense and sweeping Stress.
I am a little biased I suppose, since I am very familiar with Justice's work, but for me, this record hits all the right spots. It's an amazing hallmark in the history of French House, putting the genre (along with Daft Punk) on the world stage. 5/5.
I liked it. Very warm and vibrant sounds, a cozy yet moody record throughout. Is this an album you have to listen to before you die? Eh, I don't know. But it's still a decent experience.
Have to be honest that it didn't really wow me, and in terms of shoegaze I think there's much, much better artists and albums out there (Cocteau Twins come to mind), but it's undeniably of high quality regardless. 3.5/5.
Safe and inoffensive. Not much about this album stood out to me. The blues-y and funky songs were cool, but otherwise it's kind of... whatever.
Not bad by any means, but I suppose it's kind of hard to make a bad album when you do half of your record by the books, and only the other half attempts to do something interesting.
I'm also absolutely for fun, feel-good and dreamy pop, but I prefer when those songs draw you in with their aesthetic. This record just kind of sounds like background music. 2/5.
I don't know... Wanted to like this more than I did. Has some interesting moments, but kind of dull throughout otherwise. 2/5.
3.5/5 rounded up. I had a ton of fun listening to this record, from the high-energy and punchy opener tracks to the moody and introspective run later into the album. I must say I was expecting a bit more glitter, dance and funk going into It's Blitz!, where instead there's a lot of... mood, on the 11-song tracklist.
So I had to readjust my expectations slightly as I went in for a second listen, but I could appreciate the music far better once I realized what I was in for. Just gotta say, this album is not that blitzy for being called It's Blitz!. But, its' pretty good regardless.
I liked this one quite a bit actually. Pretty fun album throughout, has lots of recognizable hits and popular songs, which are fun to hear, cause I didn't even know that all of those were on the same album, or even from this band from that matter.
The record throughout sounds very modern and fresh too actually, for something made in the late 70s, which really surprised me. So, 4/5.
Albums rated a 1 are, in my opinion, purely unlistenable and have no redeeming qualities. Those would be records that have absolutely nothing on them which is worth coming back to, nothing that is even remotely interesting or unique, and are just unenjoyable to spend your time on.
That's not this record. In fact, I think this record has a few moments that actually made me perk up from whatever I was doing and pay attention to the music. Which I can't say for an album I think is bad.
But I'd say this record is close to a 1 for me. The whole thing, as a cohesive project is... boring, drab and dull. If someone were to take a nap and ask me which album I'd recommend for getting to sleep quick and easy, this is (so far) my #1 pick from the list.
The musicianship is solid, the songs are definitely not bad, the instrumentation is smooth and sweet, but it could not keep my attention whatsoever. Maybe that says something about me, or maybe that says something about the album.
For my sake, I hope it's the latter. 2/5.
Some pretty darn solid rock music. Abrasive, dirty and loud. Imagining myself in a bar fight while listening to this, wrecking the whole place. Also has some surprisingly quiet and smooth moments too, although those are few and far between.
Does nothing more to impress, but a fun listen nevertheless. 3/5.
