Meh--the big songs are good but not my jam
Some of these songs aren't great -- the emphasis on "little girl" in "I wanna be your boyfriend," the songs about sniffing glue or not wanting to go in the basement sound sort of like saying stuff just to kill time, but all of them are going on my workout playlist so this is a 4.
Keepers/Top 10: Blitzkrieg Bop
Also not my jam, but the album is short and catchy and fine to listen to. Several of the songs sound like a teenage boy temper tantrum "YOU TRY TO GET THE BEST OF ME, GO AWAY", for example, but I think there's a strong argument to be made that this album performed an important service in modelling healthy masculinity for teen boys--songs talk about being scared, feeling alone, etc, and it'd be better if boys today were listening to Linkin Park and forming bad knock off bands than listening to podcasts. I'm giving it a 4, even though Jon's right that the rapping is bad.
This album is more my jam, but still didn't necessarily stand out. Clint Eastwood and Double Bass went on my keepers playlist. 19-2000 is unlistenable if you grew up hearing the soulchild remix and Latin Simone was not good. Jon called this album lo-fi beats to study to, and, well, he's not wrong.
I was ready to be surprised by this album but I was not. A couple bangers but mostly songs that feel like they are ushering in the tradwife era or are weirdly bad (soda pop, email my heart).
OK so it's a classic bob dylan album so it's good, but I did not personally love it. Rainy Day Women was kind of annoying, Just Like a Woman is sort of patronizing, imo, so is One of Us Must Know. I added Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again to the top 10 list tho.
All the songs are good and it works cohesively as an album, no skips. Added everything to the keepers playlist and The Bends, Fake Plastic Trees, and Just to the top 10 of the first 10 list
Fine but not my jam.
I liked it! Fuck Me Pumps and October Song were keepers.
Also liked it! Probably between a 4 and a 5.
It's objectively probably a 3 or a 4 but a 5 in my heart.
I like the vibe of this one!
