1001 Albums Summary

Gets a little boring. Songs sort of run together at some point, all of the guitar/bass/synth tones are the same throughout. Not a fan of Smith’s voice. Great songs.

The beginning of the end for Metallica. If I never hear this record again I’ll be ok.

This is fine. It’s what I expected. Nothing dangerous, very smoothed out and packaged. Fever is a little interesting, but overall a boring record.

My least favorite Miles era, but still brilliant. Haven’t listened to this in a long time, liked it more than I remembered.

Bookended by absolute classics, the rest of the record is a bit empty. The Beatles cover is fine, but doesn’t quite fulfill the hopes of Bowie covering Lennon.

Man, what a surprise. Brilliant, gut wrenching performance and songs. Love this. My first new find from this whole exercise, and if this is the only one it’ll be worth it.

Tips into schmaltz here and there, but also has shades of Sade over classic structures. Well outside my wheelhouse, a nice listen.

Sort of everything we’ve come to expect from Lenny. Every groove is deep, every riff swings. But it still feels flat, calculated. There’s a formula, and Lenny knows it front to back.

I’m always kinda torn on this record. Gimme Shelter, Monkey Man, and You Can’t Always Get What You Want are all-timers, but the “Stones go country” tunes that make up the rest of the album are not my thing.

This record proves two things- 1. Steve Albini could never outrun the massive weight of his own ego. 2. You can’t make good rock with a drum machine.

Clearly highlights the schmaltz of Garfunkel, hints at the brilliance of Simon. Not an all time record, but the title track alone makes it worthwhile.

What a great find! Great songs with incredibly tasteful performances. My favorite of this exercise so far.

Classic for a reason. It’s been imitated so often it’s hard to remember how original it was.

Just about perfect. Great songs, great performances. Fogerty deserves his place in the pantheon of great American songwriters.

I can appreciate why this is groundbreaking and a work of complete genius. But I never need to listen to it again.

It’s ska. Maybe some of the best ska, but there’s a ceiling.

Nothing worse than bad, cravenly commercial pop music.
