The last verse of forgive them father is fucking jumping. Also the snips of a kids classroom at the end of songs is oddly nostalgic for a white kid from WV
This is the best r&b, the best gospel hip hop, really kind of the epitome of these genres I think.
I don’t know anything about her writing process, but if this bitch is writing this and singing and rapping this, she is truly maybe the best to ever do it, everything that is. It should be criminal to be this talented.
Ok, in finishing the album, and having an hour or so to think on it, this shit was the shit.
Over all, only due in fact that this isn’t a genre I listen to often, instead of a perfect 5, I’ll say a strong 4.7/5
So far, just finished the first disc. There are a few that stick out, “but not for me”, “I’ve got beginners luck”, and “how long has this been going on”.
I will say, it’s a little of a slog sometimes, as so far it’s a very predictable flow, like almost all big band jazz stuff, but I can already tell, on disc 2, since this is I imagine a collection of her songs, I can already hear a difference as we’re getting “newer and newer”.
To be honest, I did not finish this. It was 6 discs in total, and I got half way through 4 and stopped. While I did “like” it, and can respect it, its roots and what it inspired, it felt as if I was in a 4 hour Christmas movie

This album is incredibly horny.
Ok, after sitting on it for a day, this album sucks. I’m sorry. Maybe I just don’t get it, but just Englishmen singing songs about seeing girls in their underwear isn’t it. Only one or two times did I find myself impressed or interested in a riff or something instrumental happening, other than that, it was kind of boring, just weird English disco rock.
Lord, this album was amazing. Of course, I’ve heard the big ones from this album, but actually sitting and listening to it, I’ve got a few new favorites.
Billy Joel is an amazing story teller, and every song I felt like I was being strung along a tale in his life personally.
He is one of my dads favorites, and has always been one of mine that I now have a new appreciation for

So, this album came out in 2003, so I obviously did not listen to it at the ripe age of 7, but my first hazy memory of it was when I was approximately 14-16. During that time, I listened to pretty much exclusively death metal, and if it wasn’t that, I didn’t like it, or not outwardly so at least.
I had heard some hits in the following years, but surely not had really given a critical listen to this ever.
Amazing album, very tom petty; had a lot of political themes that resonate today again, but also some good instrumental work as well.
Stand outs for me were “Jesus etc”, “I’m the man who loves you”, and “heavy metal drummer”.
This definitely deserves its spot on the list

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, top 10 for sure.
Truly, this is one of the greatest rock albums of all time, sooooo far before its time. For the 70’s, this is crazy.
Ya know, admittedly, it can be some bias on my part, as it’s one of my dad’s favorites, so I’ve heard it truly my whole life. And to be critical, some of the writing and lyrics in this album can be maybe a little generic at times, but a few things about that.
1. If it rocks, who cares. The lyrics are incredibly catchy; have been stuck in my head for the better part of 25 years.
2. I truly think it can only be so generic when it’s 50 years old. Because at the time, it maybe wasn’t generic. It only is because of the quantity now a days.
This is as 5/5 as it gets
Great album. Not a ton to say about this honestly. I did enjoy it, and because of the time period (1966), every song was made for the radio, so the whole album was only about 35 minutes long or so.
That being said, there is something about a beach boys love song that’s very nostalgic. They really had a chokehold on this era and genre.
In a lot of songs, I was surprised by instrumental breaks with guitar, horns, bongos, real interesting stuff.
Stand outs for me, of course “wouldn’t it be nice”, “Sloop John B”, and “god only knows”

This album was great. Kind of a hard listen, just as the subject matter is very bare and raw.
I really liked this album! 80’s British rock/kinda groovy rock, it was a great listen. In the same class as pulp from a few days ago, this was made before, and a ton better.
Also similarly to pulp, it had some overtly sexual themes that didn’t seem as off putting as pulp, described in a poppy chant or over a fun riff.
there also was a ton of instrumental moments in this album I really enjoyed. The last minutes of “all of this and nothing” really stood out and made me stop and listen.
As for favorites, the before mentioned “all of this and nothing”, “Mr jones”,(no relation) and “no tears”
All in all, exactly what I want out of this list. Something I’d never heard and would never hear if not for this, that truly I enjoy.

So this was a weird one. I don’t know how to feel about it tbh. I truly thought a few times throughout that this must’ve been a spoof or comedy album, and honestly? I still am not 100% sure it wasn’t.
I gaslit myself into thinking I actually liked the first song, but after listening to it again, I can confirm, I do not. There are things that I do LIKE about it, such as the kind of off beat rapping, and the subject matter, but other than that, na.
I will submit, I’m sure this is someone’s jam, just not mine

This album was great.
I’ve always been a REM fan, but really just the hits, haven’t really dove in their discography, and this was a great place to start.
Tons of catchy songs, “orange crush” in there for me in terms of “hit factor”, and really just a great time

I wasn’t huge about this one.
I’ve been a fan of the yeah yeah yeahs for awhile, but I suppose mostly in passing. Really not going out of my way to listen to them, let alone digest an album.
My biggest complaint was the electronics in this album. Was not what I was expecting at all; everything I’ve heard from the yeah yeah yeahs has been mostly, if not entirely live instruments, so it was a little jarring.
That being said, it wasn’t an awful time or anything, just not what was expected. The last 3 songs of the album are acoustic covers of earlier songs, and they were my favorites.
The acoustic cover and original song “hysteric” were my favorite here.
Again, not bad by any means, just not my real cup of tea

Not huge on this album unfortunately, as I’ve always considered myself a “yes” fan.
It just truly was too long winded. I’m all for a concept piece that spans, but 2 hours of fiddling just wasn’t it for me unfortunately.

This album is pretty good! I never gave Amy a fair shot, having really only heard “rehab” and it coming out in a time in my life where it was very important to be “cool” and anything that popular was not; I judged it prematurely.
After one listen, I kinda understand the hype she had, and now has posthumously. She was a talent, and as cliche as it sounds, we really don’t make music like this anymore.
As a fan of jazz and the like, this was a refreshing twist (though it released in 2006 lol). It’s a shame we lost her, she truly could’ve been the next Adele, if not the downtrodden, sadder version

Man, this album. This is kinda what it’s all about. I’ve never heard of this album or band, and would have no earthly reason to if not for this list.
This album was ridiculously ahead of its time. As a fan now of “emo”, almost spoken wordly music, this coming out in the EIGHTIES is crazy
The emotions behind these tracks leave little, and weirdly, at the same time, a lot to the imagination. It paints such a vivid, sad, empty picture. “Blue and grey shirt” and “laughingstock” both are borderline hard listens, but have such beautiful instrumentation behind it it’s impossible not to listen.
The only song I wasn’t a fan of was “bad liquor” which taped into some weirder punk vibes that I just don’t personally super like.
All in all, not perfect, but really one of my favorites thus far
