1001 Albums Summary

The sound on this album is so consistent and so full of almost church-like solos that I was surprised when it was over! I wasn’t specifically familiar with any of the songs on the album but felt like I had heard them all before and singing along. One listen should show you why they’re still touring 😂

It’s easy to listen to and enjoy Bob Dylan, but his lyrics are also dense with metaphor and meaning; the line “even the President of the United States has to stand naked” would result in an angry tweet if a musician as prominent as him said it today. His harmonica solos are spectacular, his guitar-playing fits each moment of music perfectly. You can’t dislike this album!

This album is very fast paced and has some fun licks; the drummer is completely locked in and this could be really fun workout music. However, none of it feels memorable enough to make me want to listen to more music by Frank Black.

Rust In Peace is short but punches big. The super-tight drum lines and incredible rhythm guitar keep the energy high and intense throughout. Fundamental, fun metal that also feels like easy listening.

This album feels all about the effects to me. It’s cool to hear licks, styles, and technical tricks copied by other great musicians later on, but the album overall feels very ambience focused. It’s not to my taste, but I can appreciate it’s revolutionary nature.

My attention span has been ruined by the internet, I guess! I felt sure I had heard Mr. Follow Follow multiple times but it was just much longer than I was expecting. I appreciated the variation within the song—riffing on the established musical material for an extended time was very cool and I found myself bopping along to the beat and the vocals.

This album is kind of crazy for the instrumental to vocal ratio (much higher than I expected). I knew excerpts of these but not the full 12-14 minute tracks. Maybe my attention span has been ruined by radio cuts but I think I prefer them shorter. Love the effects & the classic guitar lines are definitely ear worms.

This is my first time listening and the electronic drum kit sounds stood out in every song. I loved the unique sound the samples lent to the rhythmic underpinning of every song, and how each song was different but internally repetitive enough that I was humming along by the end!

This is an incredibly cohesive album from the lyrics, the rhythmic drive, and the spoken moments. I’ve never heard the whole thing before and I need to dig into its context after hearing it!

I was fascinated by the synth replication of lower strings sounds but didn’t find any part of the album to really hook onto.
