1001 Albums Summary

An absolute classic. Nick Drake came on to my radar via VW. Yes, I hate to admit it but it prodded me to check out his other work as well. Seeing that he had John Cale as a producer on another album made it all the better. This album is a stone cold classic.

The rock flute lives! This is a weird album. I only heard it though a couple of years ago. It's like a medieval festival pressed on wax. I always remember seeing the cover as a kid and being fairly afraid of it. An I just realized the poster on the cover says, "Spend Christmas Skiiing..." Weird. But yeah, classic for its weirdness.

A barn burner of a jazz album from The Duke. A snapshot in time from his career. What really strikes me about this one is how rowdy and ready the crowd is. It sounds like a Doors show! Secondly, it took me hearing this to remember that "Take the A Train" was the theme song to The Voice of America's "Jazz Hour" show. The show was hosted by Willis Conover and beamed jazz beyond the Iron Curtain back in the day. What a great time capsule of a period of American ascendance in the world.

Good bossanova album. Not something I'd have in heavy rotation, though.
