1001 Albums Summary

Rich, eclectic, interesting textures.

Some golden heavyweight oldies which were pleasant to revisit. Made me think of chewing tobacco in a wheatfield in the mid-west, strumming a guitar, with a whiskey in hand. I like the banjos. Overall the same mellow temperature throughout, save for a pleasant symphonic surprise on one of the tracks - but this felt like an unusual peak given the slightly undulating vibe of the album as a whole.

Talk about classic country sound, love the steel string guitars, love the upbeat feel of even the sad songs, with the straight to the point and/or the heart lyrics. Those clean harmonies and white gospel rockabilly feels. more innocent than Elvis but cheeky. Gorgeous nostalgia. Makes me want to listen to Hank Williams.

Smooth but surprisingly ho-hum for Gaye. Do I hear Gaye's influence on Jamiroquai via "A Funky Space Reincarnation"? This was cool. Otherwise...mmm eh.

Great guitars, though Morrissey's vocal has such a soporific effect, even over fun guitars.

Full on. That space of 50's+60's jazz meets Bob Fosse. Intense at the end. Not for the faint hearted.

Loving the lush instrumentation / composition, middle eastern North African influences and hoedown references, BUT Rufus’ voice is giving me wobbly Radiohead and try hard cabaret, and I SO want him to carry and soar a note without whingeing nasally about it. Having said that, lyrics are funny and sharp, and the Old Whores Duet is wonderful.
