1001 Albums Summary

Woah! Did not realize this type of music was being made in 1987. Gets a little too experimental for me at times, but I really enjoyed. (I listened to their later stuff and that hit even better for me.)

What a banger. Love the tales, particularly Donna’s. Feel like I’ve been living under a rock for missing this one.

Works better as either an instrumental album or with an actual singer. I know that’s part of the punk vibe, but so is an intentional lack of instrumentalism, and these dudes can play. I wanted to like it more than I did. Would rather listen to Rage.

Producers going hard, but some songs end up repetitive and/or annoying. Dusty is not writing any of her own stuff. Also the “blue-eyed soul” is hard to swallow sometimes despite her anti-racism stance in real life.

Some songs sound like a bunch of musicians got in a sandbox and fucked around til it made music, then told someone to sing like Bob Dylan over it. Then they’re like “jk jk, we knew how to make a top 10 pop hit the whole time.” Makes complete sense that Bowie was behind these guys. You never know what’s coming next.

Sounds like a dude just hanging out in his living room just lazily white guy rapping about what he sees. Then some of those blues licks come out of nowhere. When I was in 6th grade, I was both confused and intrigued. Still holds. Tracks that he discovered Jack Johnson.
