Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues

Great. went in expecting "world music", got something completely unexpected. Haven't heard a blues/rnb record like it.

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales

I've read that this album is a pretty significant influence on the the following decade - the term "ahead of its time" is used a lot. It's interesting to listen to from that perspective, but perhaps the magic has gone, or people have built better things on it's foundations since. Some of the synths are great, it's really well produced, but it's often dull and sometimes downright annoying

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Oct 13 2026

My brother had this album and I remember him listening to it quite a lot. I still like the title track, Hallowed Be Thy Name and The Trooper. The other tracks aren't making an impression on me. I think I'm at the wrong place and time for Iron Maiden. I don't really like virtuosic guitar solos and arpeggios. I don't like operatic rock. Never been keen on Bruce's voice. It's a shame because there is an acorn in there of something I'd really love. Maybe if it was all a bit more simple.

Arrival by ABBA
Oct 15 2026

Familiar with most of the tracks here - nice to give abba a proper listen instead of hearing it in the background. Really well recorded, composed and performed bit of pop music.

Giving this another listen makes me understand that when I say 'I like Outkast', I mean 'I like Andre 3000' Speakerboxxx is okay. It has a ton of nods to Parliament which, to be honest it seems worse off for. I could never stand "The Way you Move". "Last Call" is an absolute banger. The Love Below is brilliant, start to finish. Would be an easy 5/5 if this was the entire album.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Oct 21 2026

Frank obviously has a great voice and the band are very good but it's just not for me.

Africa Brasil by Jorge Ben Jor
Oct 22 2026

Never heard Jorge Ben before. What a gem! This is right up my street.

It used to be a consensus opinion to hate Coldplay, which I indulged in at the time. Listening to it now, I think they're very good.

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra

Starts off great - loved everything up to and including Starlight - then it lost steam for me pretty quickly.

Bossanova by Pixies

Only heard one Pixies track before this and didn't like it. This was good though! I loved 'Ana' , 'Dig for Fire', 'Stormy Weather'.
