Popular Reviews

Among The Living by Anthrax

An already biased opinion as a metal head! The Metallica homages are evident. Crisp, dry drums that are synonymous with thrash metal hammer away with barely intelligable lyrics encourage head banging. A properly adjusted equaliser makes more difference than it has rights to in order to elevate the sound.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream

A curiously enjoyable sound, definitely worth saving

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Jun 07 2021

Smooth with a smokey, dimly lit bar feel. Refreshing blues and jazz tastes. Not something I would have previously enjoyed. Makes me want an oversized cadillac.

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Jun 08 2021

A curious opening, unexpected but refreshing. Strong ace of base vibes with an airy twist. Mildly repetitive lyrics but not unpleasant. Suitable for including in an operating theatre playlist with elements for everyone to enjoy. Unusual interim tracks that left a little to be desired, definitely needs to be listened to in track order to feel the flow. Pairs well with an espresso but not a good combination with a more stiff drink.

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jun 10 2021

Delightful synth with the origins of dance music felt. Even though a little repetitive, never felt to be irritating.

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Jun 11 2021

If you're into R&B I can see this being enjoyable... As a newcomer I certainly didn't get the appeal. Bland tracking and free form flow left a bad taste. As much as there are many albums to listen to before you die, I would not have minded not hearing this one.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jun 14 2021

Surprisingly modern sound. Lyrics found to be quite witty and catchy. Keyboards are occasionally repetitive and annoying.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jun 15 2021

A thoroughly enjoyable experience, albeit a biased one.

The Contino Sessions by Death In Vegas
Jun 16 2021

- disharmonies are intriguing, - will definitely listen to again but needs right mood - not listened to much shoegaze but might explore more

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
Jun 18 2021

I'm not sure if listening to this is cultural enrichment or cultural appropriation... Nonetheless the journey to Shangri - La was very enjoyable.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 21 2021

A smooth introduction to reggae

Crazysexycool by TLC
Jun 23 2021

Far from my own tastes. I wouldn't consider this an album I had to listen to before I died

Coles Corner by Richard Hawley
Jun 24 2021

A curious mixture. Made the commute a little better

Nowhere by Ride
Jun 28 2021

A pleasant psychedelic experience. Images of kaleidoscopes and teenagers that need a wash comes to mind. Limited sing along options.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Jun 29 2021

The girl power of the 80's is strong. Wonderful experience.

Too Rye Ay by Dexys Midnight Runners
Jun 30 2021
Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo
Jul 06 2021

A great example of a classic 90's sound, that conjurs images of large cathode computer displays, enormous mobile phones, the election of Bill Clinton and yet becomes utterly forgettable the moment the album ends.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Jul 08 2021

A curiously enjoyable sound, definitely worth saving

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Jul 09 2021

An album I would have happily missed
