1001 Albums Summary

So far, it seems like the album cover is the best part.

At first it just made me want to listen to Fela. But after a bit I really got into it.

One of my favorites. I hadn't listened to it in a while, so it was good to get back into it.

I little too elevator music for me.

I thought I didn't really like Eminem. Now I know I don't really like Eminem.

It's really interesting for 1982?! I would have guessed it was contemporary! But not real easy listening.

It's one of those albums where I've heard every song so much I just don't care to listen again. And Johnson's voice can be really grating after a while.

Really good with some surprisingly pretty songs.

The drum and bass feels pretty dated. But they do some interesting stuff with it.

This isn't my cup of tea. But I can appreciate the talent.

It's tough to separate the art from the artist. But he was only 20 when he made this, which is kind of incredible.

I probably would have liked it back in the day. But it sounds dated, now. I like some tracks. Some are actually annoying. Like "Quality Seconds". I like "Kein Trink Wasser".

Really good stuff. It gets a little crazy and almost unlistenable with the last track, but otherwise good.

No. Well, I listened to a couple of these songs. It's a lot different than Pet Sounds that everyone talks about and seems to love but which I hate. Buy I still don't like the Beach Boys.

Not as great as I thought. But good.

Meh. Not really my thing. There's a lot of 90s stuff in this list: the era where I was the most judgmental of music. But this isn't my thing.

Not my favorite Pixies album, but it's the fucking Pixies! It rules!

That's some pretty good mandolin playing. (I think). Not a big fan of her super vibrato voice. I think I'd rather hear some more traditional versions of e.g. East Virginia. It sounds like something that might be on the Anthology of American Folk music. Yeah, no.

It's good. But the whole album doesn't hold up to the hits, which are great.

We Will Fall is kind of droney meh. Most other tracks are great. Some of my favorites.

I don't like Dylan. I'll give it a try, I guess. I'm thinking it'll just make me want to listen to trad folk. I mean, he's not a good singer. He's a bad harmonica player. He's a mediocre guitarist. He just kinda sucks. He's a good song writer, I guess, but that's about it. I gave up with the bad harmonica in Desolation Row.

It's good. More slow Beck than my preferable upbeat Beck. But good..

Oof. This album is a very specific time and place feels. High School junior year. I think it was the start of my "I prefer their earlier stuff" conception.
