What If Leaving Is a Loving Thing by Sahara Hotnights

At times this gave me Pretenders vibes, at other times it gave me your aunt’s cover band vibes. Maybe this is because they’re Swedish, but the over pronunciation of everything bothered me. I don’t need to understand every single word on the first listen of any album. It reminds me of musical theater or Donald Fagen, neither of which I’m happy with. But honestly, I might be being a bitch. This album is really alright.

Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell

Does she know she doesn’t have to sing like that? Maybe I’m missing some context, but I also kinda despise theater. Pass pass pass.

Barafundle by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

Very here for the inclusion of the Welsh language! Love this mix of Celtic and indie vibes combined with so many more styles. Very original and very fun!

L'autre... by Mylène Farmer

A lot different than I expected but such a fun discovery! This is the kinda stuff I like to see here.

Wincing The Night Away by The Shins

Perfect in every way! And this was their third perfect album in a row. These early Shins albums couldn’t exist without the likes of Pet Sounds, but isn’t it fun to hear a direct influence of amazing albums on other amazing albums? Even though I’m the perfect target audience for this (was a teenager when it came out, grew up in the land of Sub Pop…), I’m still convinced this is just as great and fresh now as it was then.

American Football by American Football
Mar 29 2026

This unfortunately didn’t do anything for me. I was anxiously awaiting the guitar to do ANYTHING else. Feels like it’s really part of a certain Zeitgeist and doesn’t quite translate across eras.

Choirs Of The Eye by Kayo Dot
Mar 30 2026

Very cool new discovery! Feels like a crazy mix between post rock and metal. Crazy stuff.

Once Upon a Rhyme by David Allan Coe
Mar 31 2026

I wasn’t really familiar with David Allan Coe before this. Cool listen for sure!

Highway Prayers by Billy Strings
Apr 01 2026

I was ready to give this 4 stars regardless of the length, but then that godawful weed song came on and I cringed so hard I couldn’t do it. Loved the beginning of this and I don’t mind a long album, but this one’s length was really detrimental to its quality. I really do believe you could whittle this down and craft it into a perfect album, but not like this. Still happy to know who Billy Strings is now.

Wincing The Night Away by The Shins

Re by Café Tacvba
Apr 06 2026

I really wanted to like this, but just didn’t at all. The length and the different styles made it feel like a chaotic mass of songs with no cohesion and the vocals are extremely grating.

Temple of Thought by Poets of the Fall
Apr 07 2026

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything worse in my life.

Stretch 2 by Arca
Apr 08 2026

No shade, but I’m super surprised that the user list is full of mod albums. I thought we were all music nerds? Is this the standard? Jeez…

Apr 09 2026

I once dated an extremely narcissistic and psychotic dude from Italy and he loved this album. I listened a bit and realized how mid it is. But if we’re honest, the biggest realization is that it’s still better than he was. Fuck him.

WORRY by Jeff Rosenstock
Apr 11 2026

Not my favorite style of music, but this was a really solid album! The songs masterfully blend into the next which makes it feel like a cohesive and immersive experience. Some great tunes here as well.

Speak & Spell by Depeche Mode
Apr 12 2026

Amazing debut, amazing album! So glad I got to see them live a few years back. Just the best.

Thank Christ for the Bomb by The Groundhogs
Apr 13 2026

Never heard of this but enjoyed it! It seems like something that would’ve been on the initial list, so a cool pick for sure.

Apr 14 2026

I can imagine those who aren’t familiar with Primus could be a bit put off, I mean, it is a weird thing they’re doing. I’ve known of them for ages and even saw them about 20 years ago, I was surprised I still knew every song on this album. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that it’s strange for sure, but they sure are good at it. And I honestly do think they deserve a place here with their influence and this is truly an enjoyable album!

Demon Days by Gorillaz
Apr 15 2026

Pretty crazy this wasn’t on the original list! We all know this is great.

Older by Lizzy McAlpine
Apr 16 2026

This made me sad on a day that I don’t want to be sadder than I already am. I liked some songs, though.

L'autre... by Mylène Farmer
Apr 17 2026

A lot different than I expected but such a fun discovery! This is the kinda stuff I like to see here.

Join Us by They Might Be Giants
Apr 18 2026

Cool album from a cool band! Would never be my first pick, but sure why not.

Tomb by Angelo De Augustine
Apr 20 2026

Can’t remember a thing and I listened to it this afternoon.

City Of Evil by Avenged Sevenfold
Apr 28 2026

This one physical hurt me.

A Deeper Understanding by The War On Drugs
Apr 29 2026

Not bad. The problem with this band is that most things seem to blend together for me and I enjoyed this a bit less than some other albums from them I've heard.

Korn by Korn
Apr 30 2026

One wasn’t enough?

Harbor Lights by Bruce Hornsby
May 01 2026

Whose dad nominated this one?

Kick by INXS
May 02 2026

Rating this a little higher than I maybe would've solely based on my own personal enjoyment, because it definitely deserves a place on the list! Also, it's enjoyable enough.

May 03 2026

I felt like this started strong, but in the end it's just a mushy pile of rock slop.

Oncle Jazz by Men I Trust
May 04 2026

bit of a snoozefest

John Dawson Winter III by Johnny Winter
May 05 2026

Better than I was expecting and a breath of fresh air after some of these other picks!

Lemonade by Beyoncé
May 15 2026

So happy someone out this on the list. Beyoncé’s magnum opus in my eyes. Just an incredible album that really marked a breakthrough for her artistically!

May 16 2026

I’m sure it has its place here, but I wouldn’t really say it’s that enjoyable to listen to.

AmarElo by Emicida
May 17 2026

What a great discovery! Really enjoyed this.

For All Happy Endings by David & The Citizens
May 18 2026

I can imagine this album hitting just perfectly having grown up with it back in the early 2000s. Very solid indie rock from a band I'd never heard of that made me oddly nostalgic for being 16 again and getting obsessed with newly discovered music. Thanks to the submitter for introducing me to this!

1, 2, Kung Fu! by Boy Azooga
May 19 2026

The first half is way stronger than the second, but still solid! Glad to get to know this album.

Norther by Ex-Easter Island Head
May 22 2026

Fine in the background, I suppose.

Rainbow Brain by GRiZ
May 23 2026

Not my thing at all, but I was grooving. I kinda get the appeal.

Piano Bar by Charly García
May 24 2026

I’m well of aware of his fame in Argentina and I just say, I get it. What an album!

Mezzanine by Massive Attack
May 26 2026

I will never understand the appeal of Massive Attack. I gave both albums in the original list two stars, but I’ll bump this one up a star for their politics.

Silent Shout by The Knife
May 27 2026

Nice! Right when I was thinking this sounded like Fever Ray it all dawned on me.

His 'N' Hers by Pulp
May 28 2026

Someone really thought, “I know there are already two Pulp albums in the original list, but the most important album in the world to add is a third one that is just as mediocre as the other two.” This band can fuck right on off. Two stars across the board. (Sorry submitter, I’m sure you’re cool.)

Untrue by Burial
Jun 12 2026

Can’t stand this vibe.

Transient by Gaelle
Jun 13 2026

Interesting album with cool production! Way better than I was expecting. Almost 4 stars, but it started dragging a bit.

Pussy Whipped by Bikini Kill
Jun 14 2026

Riot grrrl! Most definitely deserves a spot on the list!

II by Espers
Jun 15 2026

Great new discovery! I had no idea what to expect, but this really blew me away. Such interesting and complex compositions while remaining catchy and entertaining. Beautiful.

Stage Four by Touché Amoré
Jun 16 2026

Liked this more than I expected. I’m always a little torn on these sorts of vocals, it can be effective at times and less so at other times, but this did work. It’s just not completely my taste, but can appreciate it and the original list is missing anything comparable.

Red by King Crimson
Jun 17 2026

It’s just a masterpiece. One of my earliest passwords is from this album.

Up To Here by The Tragically Hip
Jun 18 2026

Canada makes the most random bands famous. Very average.

Friend by Rozi Plain
Jun 22 2026

Fun for one listen, but it didn’t catch me enough to look further into her discography.

Lahai by Sampha
Jun 23 2026

Pretty cool alternative hip hop, but it’s just really not my cup of tea.

Penguin Eggs by Nic Jones
Jun 24 2026

I sure do love a folk album and so happy about this new discovery! Love a new gem that I’ve somehow missed my whole life.

Peasant by Richard Dawson
Jun 25 2026

Parts of this are cool and parts seem so try-hard. I can totally see the submitter's taste between this and Robert Wyatt. With that said, happy to have been introduced to this artist. It's just maybe not entirely for me.

Young Team by Mogwai
Jul 29 2026

Will be seeing them later this year and just know it’ll be great. Very deserving of a spot on this list!

Deep Down Happy by Sports Team
Jul 30 2026

Yeah, it’s fun and energetic but for some reason I absolutely didn’t like this. This is clearly just a matter of taste, but I was so annoyed by the end of this. I don’t want to hear kitschy songs about Ashton Kutcher.

Donuts by J Dilla
Jul 31 2026

I was not aware of your game, J Dilla! Very nice.

Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen
Aug 01 2026

Solid pop album!

Englabörn by Jóhann Jóhannsson
Aug 02 2026

Totally get this being nominated, but it wasn’t easy for me to get through. Can appreciate the vibe, though!

Barafundle by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
Aug 03 2026

Very here for the inclusion of the Welsh language! Love this mix of Celtic and indie vibes combined with so many more styles. Very original and very fun!

Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
Aug 04 2026

That’s one very whiny man. The violin is kinda cool, though.

After Hours by The Weeknd
Aug 05 2026

The opening song was cool and felt like a big build up, but unfortunately to a whole lot of nothing. The first half felt like a bloated mess of boring mush leading to maybe two bangers and then a sudden end. Definitely didn’t hold up as an album.

Stranger Fruit by Zeal & Ardor
Aug 06 2026

This mix of genres really didn’t do it for me.

I Am by Earth, Wind & Fire
Aug 07 2026

You mean to tell me that the album with the worldwide hit Boogie Wonderland wasn’t on the original list!?

Blue Is The Colour by The Beautiful South
Aug 09 2026

What in the world is this? Who added this? Straight to jail.
