Love the album, reminds me of high school art class with Mr Shang. I thought I wouldn’t like it as much as I did. I remember it being more out there but it was super relatable.
Complete shit. An old persons idea of what grunge is. Hated it.
Meh. Seems overproduced and fueled by cocaine. At first it was ok, but by the end I just wanted it to be over.
Pretty good. Not really my cup of tea but I can understand why so many people love it. I think if I had heard this earlier in life I probably would have loved it too.
Great album! Love the music. This is the first time I've felt like an audiophile snob, but the mix sucks. There's no bass to speak of. Sounds weird and flat.
Love this album! Every song is great, so many different influences, such great, smooth 80s guitar. Knopfler is king for a reason! Really wish he didn't have to say f****t on Money For Nothing. Because that song has probably my favorite beginning of any song ever. Epitome of 80s music in my opinion - even has a guest appearance from Sting.
Trite, shallow singer/songwriter pop written for teenage girls after their first heartbreak. Bleh.
Interesting music. One of those albums that I am glad that I listened to, but I don't really think I'll be listening to it a bunch in the future. Reminds me of Silver Apples or very early Floyd.
Hell yes! I don't think I'd ever really listened to a full Iron Maiden album before, they have always just been on metal mixes, but that changes today! This was fucking epic and I loved it. Hallowed Be Thy Name!!!
Great album. Feels like being inside a Quentin Tarantino film. Very cool.
Not really my thing, but since this appears to be such an inspiration for so much electronic music, I'll give it a 3.
Meh. Pretty unremarkable.
Not sure why this is an album I needed to hear before I die. Sounds like a group of kids messing around. Not saying it's terrible, but it just kind of reminded me of my own high school garage band. I'm left wondering what the musical significance of this is.
I didn't want to like this album, but I did. This girl had some pipes. I remember when it came out I thought she had an annoying personality and all the press about her was just about her struggles with addiction. So I never really listened to her music except for that one Rehab song that they played all the time on the radio. But, listening to her album Frank was really nice. Has a jazz club vibe, good times.
Interesting album. Can't say I loved it, but I can see how this was influential and so I'm giving it an extra star.
I thought "Loaded" was pretty good - and I thought I recognized the drum part. I looked it up on "WhoSampled" and was amazed to find that the same drum part (originally from "The Jam" by Graham Central Station) has been used on hundreds of songs!
This 1001 Albums Generator has had me listening to a lot of music that I don't exactly love. Sometimes it feels like homework to listen to these albums. But it is certainly expanding my knowledge of music history and pop culture and that is pretty awesome.
Great album. Surprised to find it on this list, but I enjoyed it when it came out and I enjoyed it again now.
I opened the first legal aquaponic cannabis growing facility in Washington State. I ran my business for over 5 years, and then sold it. The profits from that sale bought me and my wife a farm in the county where we raise our now raise our two beautiful girls.
I believe that I have lived Tosh's dream. I am so grateful to everyone who came before me and fought for our right to enjoy this plant. Thank you Peter!
So good! A true hip-hop classic.
I don't know man. This brit-pop is just not my jam. I don't know why they would call something like this "Hardcore" because it's more like a diluted and poppy version of grundge or something.
Enjoyed the album, not much to say about it though.
Loved it! Soulful music from the heart. Classic.
I didn't even know I was a fan of the Cars until i heard this record! I've been hearing these songs my entire life as background music at skating rinks, malls, in the car, but I guess I thought they were one-hit-wonders. I never knew that so many great pop songs were all from the same band, and from the same goddamn album none-the-less. Pretty amazing that they made so many timeless hits at the same time!
I made it through the whole album, but thoroughly disliked it. I don't know what it is about prog rock that just rubs me the wrong way. Too many chord changes? It just feels messy and disorganized. I can respect that these guys are phenomenal musicians, but this ain't my cup o tea.
One of the best album covers of all time though. Extra star for the cover.
Don't like Lou Reed. I think he's an annoying, pretentious ass.
Pretty good Neil Young album that I had not heard before. Sounds like Neil Young.
Epic. I remember the first time I heard "In The Court of the Crimson King" many years ago. It was unlike any other music I had heard before. It's not a surprise to find how influential this album has become. I think prog rock has a tendency to become too experimental and become an exercise in musicianship rather than just being good music, but I think that King Crimson hit the nail on the head with this one. 5/5
Pretty good album. We used to listen to the Pixies and Frank Black a lot in High School, so this brings back good memories. Always felt that they were kind of a hit-or-miss band, and this album is no exception. First few songs start out strong, but by the end of the album I was ready for something else.
This is everything that I hate about rap in one album. A pompous asshole rapping about being rich and insulting people. Why can't you just be happy with what you've got, Jay?
In a world with enlightened rappers like Blackalicious, Kendrick Lamar, Blue Scholars, Black Thought, Q-Tip, MF Doom, and so many others that actually have interesting things to say, I am truly baffled that anyone listens to idiots like Jay-Z, DJ Khaled and Kanye West.
Probably not the best Tom Waits album, but a pretty good one. Solid 4/5. "Heartattack & Vine", "On The Nickel" and "Jersey Girl" were the ones that stood out to me.
Classic Waits crooning on most of the tracks, a nice instrumental, and one or two where I think he starts to get a little whiney and I start searching for the "next button" on the remote.
Didn't listen all the way through. Some interesting sounds on "I Wish I Had Duck Feet" but overall the album felt repetitive and dull.
Nice album. Used to listen to it a lot in high school so it brings me back. Maybe the perfect mix of sadness and pop that creates a sound that is both ironic and heartfelt at the same time.
I can respect what Kraftwerk has done for music, but this is not music that I enjoy. Early electronic music is like early rap - I understand everything has to start somewhere, but if i'm being honest it's hard to listen to.
Willie Nelson songs all sound pretty much the same. And they are all great. Love you Willie!
What can you say about Dire Straits? I've always liked the idea that Mark Knopfler is "your favorite guitarists' favorite guitarist". He has such a smooth and effortless style that seems so easy and melodic until you start really paying attention to what he's doing. Love the album, not my favorite Dire Straits album, but a good one nonetheless.
Good stuff. Easy to see that Snoop and Dre were heavily influenced by this when they made Doggystyle.
Not much to say about this one. I listened to the album on Friday and now it's Monday and I can barely even remember what it sounded like.
Great album. The XX are a band that really has a unique sound with the way they harmonize combined with their minimalistic instrumentation.
There are a few albums that are so good, and so ubiquitous, that they almost transcend "music" and become just a part of life. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is one of those albums. Absolutely fantastic!
Wonderful album. Soothing.
"I hate the fucking eagles, man." I never really understood that line because I always like their hits like "Hotel California" and "Take It Easy" but Jesus Christ when you get a whole album of it they just really get under your skin. Couldn't make it more than 3 or 4 songs before turning it off.
One of the best albums ever made! Love the music, love the production. This album is a perfect blend of grunge and electronic music and I believe is responsible for inspiring electronic artists to make more interesting music and evolving the genre considerably. 5/5 love it!
Great album. Used to listen to it all the time, probably haven't listened to it in 10+ years. Still good!
