BB King's performance in this album is the perfect blues show. It's loud, but intimate - you feel like you're there with the crowd, witnessing greatness perform. You'll have a hard time finding someone who can make their guitar weep like BB, and this album is a wonderful example. He is one of the greatest for a reason. The blues is supposed to be heard through live recordings - nothing cuts quite as deep as hearing King's soulful playing and warm voice live. My favourite off the album: 'You Upset Me Baby'
I do like The Beach Boys but there's usually only so much of the surfer sound I can take at a time. I will say though that the album flows very nicely and the lengths of the songs allow for a good listening experience.
I'd never heard of Arcade Fire so wasn't sure at all what to expect. Some songs gave me a strong Brian Ferry/Roxy Music vibe which I enjoyed. I will say that some of it sounded a bit samey but a good listening experience overall Honestly not sure I would actively go and listen to the album through and through again but good to step out of the usual. My favourite song: My Body is a Cage
After listening to the first song I immediately realised that Nick Cave wrote the Peaky Blinders theme tune and from that point on every song sounded like I was listening to the soundtrack. I probably should have listened to nick cave before this but here we are. Can't see myself putting this on ever again.
this album is such a great example of the british psych rock genre. in my opinion such a classic - it definitely deserves to be on this list. my favourites: sunshine (obviously but its a classic for a reason), outside woman blues, strange brew
Really great album. I was listening while working and it really got me focussed. Bonus points for a sick cover
Honestly how have I never heard this before? To be fair, the title is the kind of thing my dad would say "put this on in the car" and I would groan and try to change the subject. When I texted him about it he said "it was my favourite album when I was your age. I played it all the time" When will I start listening to my parents? I thoroughly enjoyed it but will need to give it another listen to fully appreciate it I think. Both Brian Eno and David Byrne are some of my musical heroes and have had profound impact on me. This is a great marriage of their creative abilities. The range of sounds from all over the world and their ability to produce such a seamless album is so impressive. Five Stars.
really liked it - had a bit of a country Byrds vibe to it which I liked a lot
only knew one or two songs off of this album but David Bowie is already one of my favourites - maybe its the nostalgia of him but it just brings me back to being 10 years old. This album feels like Bowie's way of saying: "even though its 2013 and im "past my prime" I can still produce an album to blow you all out the water". Cant think of one song that felt out of place... my favourites were: 'you feel so lonely you could die', 'Valentines Day' and 'where are we now?'.
This album (1966) feels so ahead of its time. I cant describe it but it feels so modern but timeless at the same time. I was surprised to read the release date. almost a punky vibe at points - I could see the clash doing some of it? very much enjoyed
really enjoyed it - gonna give it another proper listen and hopefully I can change this review after : P
Bad company by bad company on bad company written by bad company and produced by bad company... I get it in all seriousness really enjoyed this album - they have a really strong and unique sound. it reminds me a lot of something but I cant figure out what it is (its another bad company album I just checked)
loved this album - The lead's voice is really reminiscent of Rod Stewart which I enjoyed favourite songs: Hard to Handle and Twice has Hard
I could see how the sort of people who like this music could like this but I would not trust anyone's music taste who likes this music. 'silent all these years' - and indeed the entire album - sounds like the Frozen soundtrack. After looking at the other reviews it seems that the main factor for people liking this is nostalgia, which is fair considering ill listen to 'I'll Get You What You Want (Cockatoo in Malibu)' off the Muppets Most Wanted soundtrack for the nostalgia of it.
really enjoyed this album, didn't realise how many hives songs I already knew. 60s vibe but a revival band which was cool - will def listen again. they are in true spirit my new favourite band
Love this sort of thing - the sort of stuff that your favourite rock artists reference as their inspiration
never listened to a reggae album end to end before - really enjoyed the relaxed vibe and will def listen again
I really like Beyonce and have listened to her songs before. I can appreciate her as a musician and I know she's incredibly talented but to be honest her music isn't really my thing. that being said, this album is perfectly sequenced and masterfully produced. I really enjoyed the listening experience and appreciate it as a piece of art in and of itself. definitely have a newfound appreciation for Beyonce now !!
so nice I listened twice! really enjoyed this album - sequencing was really well thought out. the progression made it feel like I was listening to a story, even if I didnt know what the story was. will def listen again!
not my usual listen but did enjoy it! think my parents like kraftwrek
love the first song but 20 mins!! feels very cinematic almost like Tommy or something by Queen. will def listen again
masterfully produced really enjoyed love Damon albarn will definitely be listening again
cant listen on Spotify which is really annoying because its one of my favourite albums of all time. I would sell my soul to funkadelic
really enjoyed this - didnt think I would but right up my alley
