The Velvet Underground
The Velvet UndergroundThis is terrible. Lou Reed has just never clicked for me. This does nothing to change that. It’s just boring, meandering, and pointless.

I did not like this album at all. It’s the old timey country love songs that I just hate. I would actively turn this off if played in the future.
Zappa is always weird but this one actually starts off fairly normal and then devolves into madness by the end. Most of the songs are satirical portrayals of 60s pop music and they do a good job. Some songs are even serious like Trouble All The Time. Overall pretty good but definitely can skip some songs.
The music is alright but the singing is just dreadful. The songs could be alright with a new singer.
Some songs are kind of forgettable. The lyrics are good throughout. The beats are good throughout.
I can't help but compare this album to both the original blues songs and the better Led Zeppelin covers of those blues songs. It's not that the Jeff Beck versions are bad, they just feel inferior to both the originals and Zeppelin covers. For many of the songs, it doesn't feel like the band is actually inhabiting the song, just playing it.
Like all the protest and civil rights type songs. Hate all the love songs except Don't Think Twice It's Alright.
Every song was solid. The orchestra could be good sometimes, but ultimately I never felt that the orchestra really enhanced a song that much. It certainly wasn't bad, but I would have no preference between the originals or the S&M versions.
I did not really like this album. None of the songs were very memorable other than the singles Without You and Coconut. It didn't seem to really hit any emotion very well and when it tried to be funny it just came off as awkward. Also the singing in Coconut feels weirdly racist.

It’s alright. For old mambo music it’s pretty good. I wouldn’t put it on myself but for only 30 minutes I could listen.
This one is alright. There are songs I like but some I don’t and others I’d need to be in the mood for. It’s just a little too much monotone and sad boi.
I was bad and didn’t finish this. But I’ve tried to listen to this before. I just can’t listen to that much jazz. It just doesn’t click for me.
I like this album, but there are some songs that I skip every time. This is especially true in the back half. But it’s still solid.
It was alright. It’s not really my thing but I didn’t absolutely hate it.
It was alright. I wasn’t blown away by anything. I was completely duped by the album and art and band name. I thought it would be some kind of screamo metal. Ultimately I’m not sure why this is on the list.
It was alright. The 80s drums and synths are always irritating to me and this had a lot of them. The lyrics were good though.
I just don’t like pop that much and have never connected with Taylor. Given this is her poppiest and most mainstream album I just can’t get into it. It’s just not for me.
Again, jazz just isn’t my thing.
I mostly liked the singles. There was at least some part of every song I liked a little. But there was also some part or every song I didn’t like. Mostly just too much 80s sound.
It was not what I was expecting. The acapella was cool in some parts but sounded dumb in others. Favorite was Pleasure Is All Mine. It has a weird creepy tone that is interesting.
Pretty boring. Did not finish the album
I didn’t really like it. All the songs sounded the same and they weren’t interesting enough to overcome that. I also did not like Joni’s voice on this one.
It was alright but all the songs sounded the same.
I liked the concept. Not every song was great but there were enough interesting ones to keep my attention. Rednecks is the best one.
I thought this was an odd choice for the single QOTSA album on the list. It’s a good album but it’s not quite the polished product that would come later.
I had never actually heard a lot of these songs. I thought they were good. There were only a couple boring ones that didn’t do anything exciting.
Very hot take but this album sucks. The opening song is a boring 20 minute slog through a half assed Ayn Rand ripoff. The other songs don’t really do anything interesting or have anything interesting to say.
This is just dreadful. The lyrics are boring. The music is generic. The singer can’t sing for shit. Just bad.
Better than I expected. I had only heard Heroes the single. The only not so good part we’re the instrumentals in the back half.
Pretty boring. I see why they only use the first bit for the Exorcist.
This is terrible. Lou Reed has just never clicked for me. This does nothing to change that. It’s just boring, meandering, and pointless.
Surprisingly good. I did not realize who CHIC was. I had obviously heard Le Freak before but didn’t know it was them. Overall pretty good. Some songs are kind of corny now. At Last I Am Free goes on about 2 minutes too long. But overall good.
I have no clue why this is on the list. It’s pretty generic 70s singer/songwriter stuff. Nothing really stands out and there’s nothing really special here. It’s not unlistenable, just bland and uninspiring.
Very good. Ray Charles is one of the greatest. All of these songs are so smooth and perfect for a nice chill listen.
Not great. I know The Stooges are revered in punk circles but I just don’t get the hype. The songs are mostly forgettable.
Great. All the songs are good and most are classics.
It’s jazz. As with every jazz album so far I have a hard time getting into it and listening to the whole thing.
I don’t get the hype here. It’s boring, slow, indie but without any of the meaningful lyrics or themes that other bands of their type have.
I don’t know why this is the Butthole Surfers album they picked as AP posed to Electric Larry Land. The album is alright as a joke but not great to listen to in general and certainly not the best Butthole Surfers album.
Very good. The only complaint is the songs all start sounding the same eventually.
I’ve never understood the obsession with Wilco. They may be one of the most boring bands I’ve ever heard. This album is also way too long. I honestly can’t remember how any of the songs go.
Robert Smith is a cool guy but I just can’t get into The Cure. It’s just not that exciting and doesn’t resonate with me. All the songs sound roughly the same and the lyrics are nothing special.
Not great, but not terrible. Irish rock that starts to sound all the same eventually. Dirty Old Town is the standout but isn’t enough to really make the whole album memorable.
Pretty good. Bell Bottom Blues and Layla are obviously the standouts. Everything else is pretty good. Only a few truly boring songs.
Come on. It’s the Beatles. Eleanor Rigby and For No One are the obvious standouts but there are sleeper hits in And Your Bird Can Sing, She Said She Said, I’m Only Sleeping, and Taxman. The sitar on the album is also great. The only true dud is Yellow Submarine.
Most of the songs are just re-recording of old bluegrass and country standards, which aren’t bad. The main issue is how fucking long this thing is. OVER TWO HOURS!! I cannot listen to two hours of old country straight. I just can’t. So that earns it a 3 at best, but I could easily give it a two.
It’s alright. Dusty Springfield is certainly great, but these songs aren’t really her best, and most are covers.
It’s way to 80s for me. It’s everything I hate about 80s music in one package. Shitty synths, drums, bass. No good.
Alright, nice and funky. I didn’t realize some of these songs were from the same people who did Shout. Not particularly memorable though.
I didn’t particularly like this one. To me Leonard Cohen always just devolves more into a poetry reading rather than music. The backing music can often be completely forgettable. I was most intrigued by Suzanne, but more because I had heard Tales of Brave Ulysses by Cream previously and that song rips the music from Suzanne and some of the themes. Otherwise I don’t really like it.

The music is alright but the singing is just dreadful. The songs could be alright with a new singer.
Very good. It’s a struggle to say what genre this is other than Pixies. It’s got a little of everything and is never boring.
It was alright. I never really got the hype around Amy Winehouse. Her voice is good but I just can’t get into the songs.
It’s the Beatles. This one for sure has some more sleeper hits and is still firmly in their more early rock and roll phase. But it’s still good.
Black Sabbath! Their first four albums are all straight bangers with no bad songs. This one probably has the most recognizable ones though.
Not that great. I had heard of this band talked about in high regard, but I just don’t get it.
It’s good. Very good soul. The only issue is the length of the songs. They are just a tad too long without justifying that length.
It was alright. I’m discovering that the Elvis highs are really high but the lows and kids are really low. Suspicious Minds is the only good song. In The Ghetto feels very weird to have been written by a white dude.
It was alright. Started strong but eventually all the songs sounded the same.
Very good. The Thing That Should Not Be is my favorite lesser known Metallica song. My only complaint is that the songs eventually blend together toward the end. Still very good.
I don’t get the hype. I read that a lot of early funk and soul bands were inspired by or liked this album but I just don’t get it. It’s pretty boring and no song stuck out to me.
I don’t really care for it. I get that some people idolize Meat Loaf. I just think the songs are too long for what they are and sound like they come out of Grease.
Very good. Classic Steely Dan. The production is amazing. The songs are great.
It’s Elvis. I’ve never really cared for Elvis. Most of the songs are just “wow a white dude is singing this now.” The only funny thing I noticed is that Blue Suede Shoes feels like early shoe culture. But otherwise I don’t like it.
It’s alright. I’ve never cared for long jammy stuff. I like the Allman Brothers in general and definitely respect, but this is just so drawn out. I would have preferred a tighter set of shorter songs and maybe one or two long ones.
Not my thing. I was curious because I had never really listened to Dwight Yoakam but knew his name. I found out I don’t care for it. On a broad level this cements for me that all music across the board suffered during the 80s. I don’t know what happened to make every genre put out it’s worst version of itself, but it’s what happened.
