Favorite Song(s): This is Love, This Mess We're In This sounds like something my dad would play when I was a kid (in a good way). Weirdly very soothing to me. In addition, her voice sounds a bit like Lana del Rey.

Harvest by Neil Young
Apr 13 2023

Favorite Song: "The Needle and the Damage Done" Definitely got some Pink Floyd vibes from the last song, "Words (Between the Lines of Age)", although the album was predominantly folk-y. I definitely need to re-listen so I can pay attention to the lyrics.

Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix
Apr 14 2023

Favorite song: I don't have one. The guitar was cool, but this album was entirely too long and psychedelic for me to enjoy. I can appreciate why it's on the list, but it's definitely not my preference.

Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear
Apr 17 2023

Favorite Song: n/a So, turns out I don’t enjoy reggae. I could only get through two songs.

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Apr 18 2023

Favorite Song(s): Fell in Love With a Girl, I'm Finding It Harder to Be a Gentleman Not only was the rock sound great, I loved the lyricism! "These two sides of my brain need to have a meeting" (Fell in Love With a Girl), "What a season/To be beautiful/Without a reason" (Now Mary), and "I'm coming through the door/But they're expecting more/Of an interesting man" (Offend in Every Way) are all fantastic. I will definitely listen to this album again!

Play by Moby
Apr 19 2023

Favorite Song(s): Bodyrock (the guitar!) Super vibe-y album. It would be good to put on at the end of a party, as it gets slower/sadder as the album continues. Def. wouldn't listen to this everyday, but it's cool!

Apr 20 2023

Favorite Song: Holiday in Cambodia This entire album gives "'Rock Lobster' on steroids" vibes. Also, phew, these lyrics are wonk.

Apr 21 2023

Favorite Song: N/A Sounds cool, but I realize now that I listened to it incorrectly. I should have put it on in the background while doing other stuff, but I listened with headphones. Rather, as ambient music, it is meant to merge with the environment and be forgotten. Whoops. Fun fact: Brian Eno produced for U2 and Coldplay!

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Apr 24 2023

Favorite Song(s): One-Sided Love Affair, Just Because This album slaps. There's a reason Elvis became famous!

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Apr 25 2023

Favorite Song(s): Idk, they all blended together for me This album had a very rainy day feel. It would go well with a cup of tea, a good book, and a cozy blanket. I also like how Cohen used the theme of Joan of Arc throughout the album. I feel like if I had paid closer attention to the album, I would have found a story, but I didn't (the long songs lost me haha).

Favorite Song(s): This is Love, This Mess We're In This sounds like something my dad would play when I was a kid (in a good way). Weirdly very soothing to me. In addition, her voice sounds a bit like Lana del Rey.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Apr 27 2023

This album just did not do it for me. All the songs blended together, and I honestly have no idea why it is an album I should hear before I die.

Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Apr 28 2023

Favorite Song(s): I liked them all, but I think Televators was my favorite? Danggggggg. This album blew my mind. Half the time I had no idea what was happening, but in a really good way. I'm definitely going to have to listen many more times before I even begin to appreciate what's happening here.

Suede by Suede
May 02 2023

Favorite Song: I liked how Animal Nitrate sounded. Honestly seemed good, but not good enough to be on this list. Where is the epic ground-breaking-ness???? The main words that come to mind for this album are "weirdly mid".

Young Americans by David Bowie
May 03 2023

Favorite Song: Fame The sound was super cool, but the lyrics were so (so so so so) repetitive (tive tive tive tive). Also slightly offputting that he was on coke while he wrote the whole thing.

Fishscale by Ghostface Killah
May 05 2023

I refused to listen to this after putting on the first track (clean) and hearing so many beeps that I couldn't understand what was being said. I understand if you feel the need to swear in your music, but do you really need to swear every few seconds? Seems to me you just lack vocabulary/basic English skills. Time to go read the dictionary, buddy. :)

Blackstar by David Bowie
May 08 2023

Favorite Song: Probably ⭐️ (Blackstar???). I liked it better than Young Americans. It’s neat that he wrote as almost a thank you letter to fans while dying of cancer. Musically though, it doesn’t stand out to me.

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
May 09 2023

Favorite Song: Probably Virginia Plain because I’m basic. This album was neat, but didn’t knock my socks off. Definitely some crossover David Bowie/Pink Floyd-y vibes. It would be good background music at a mildly interesting party.

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
May 10 2023

Favorite Songs: Used and Heater Hands. I really enjoyed this album, but it was just basic punk/rock. Why is it necessary to hear? Heck, even Wikipedia barely had an info on it.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
May 11 2023

Favorite Song: Drugs Super cool, very experimental feel. I can hear the influence on later music.

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
May 12 2023

Favorite Song: Probably Monday, because, again, I'm basic. This album was so fun! My first introduction to The Mamas & The Papas was through the Peter, Paul, and Mary song "I Dig Rock and Roll Music", in which they poke fun at various other musicians, including TM&TP. Honestly though, I quite enjoyed this album. My only complaint was that all the songs sounded a bit similar, but with such beautiful harmonies, who minds?

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
May 15 2023

Favorite Song: Girlfriend Solid album ofc, it’s Michael Jackson. Definitely not my type of music, but there’s a reason he’s famous lol. Honestly seemed like music that would be played in places people have to wait, but in a good way?

Low by David Bowie
May 16 2023

Favorite Songs: N/A (they all blended together lol). This has been my favorite Bowie album so far (I’ve gotten three in the past week or so). Heavy Pink Floyd vibes, which I love. Also cool that he didn’t sing too much.

Throwing Muses by Throwing Muses
May 17 2023

Such a cool sound! Definitely more punk-y than what I'm used to, but still slays. Also, love the juxtaposition of a female voice with punk/rock. Her (their? at one point it sounded like multiple women, maybe it was just vocal layering) voice(s) gave me slight Dolores O'Riordan vibes. I definitely need to listen again, it's frustrating that it's not on Spotify though.

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
May 18 2023

Favorite Song: N/A Super cool 60s/70s sound. Honestly, for music without many words, I really enjoyed it. Also good for napping to.

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
May 19 2023

Favorite Song: Welcome Home (Sanatarium) There’s a reason Metallica is famous.

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
May 22 2023

So… blues. Distinctly American, and something I have distinctly not enjoyed. Until now. Not only was his range impressive, but his music was just so beautiful! I can see why we are required to listen to the live album, as that adds so much more personality to the recording.

Imagine by John Lennon
May 23 2023

Sounds cool. Not a fan of the politics. I probably should’ve listened to the Beatles first.

Fifth Dimension by The Byrds
Jun 06 2023

Major knock-off Peter, Paul, and Mary vibes. If I’m gonna listen to that sort of music, I’m just going to listen to PPM.

Jun 07 2023

Honestly I enjoyed it, which is saying something given my history with rap. Kick, Push and Kick, Push II were both fantastic. My main complaint was the length of the album. By the end, I was checking my phone and bemoaning that there was so much left.

We're Only In It For The Money by The Mothers Of Invention
Jun 08 2023

Has to have been written while high. Probably best listened to when high. I do not get high. Therefore, mid levels of enjoyment.

Liege And Lief by Fairport Convention
Jun 09 2023

Knock-off Peter, Paul, and Mary from across the pond. It’s fine, but not a stand-out. If I’m going to listen to folk, I might as well support my fellow Americans (eagle screeches in background).

Jun 12 2023

This is basically everything I hate about rap- violent, full of swear words, anti police. On the other hand, the backing sounds/instrumentation is peak 90s in the best way.

Bossanova by Pixies
Jun 13 2023

Listened to it while walking. My dog and I felt cool; like we should’ve been wearing leather jackets and sunglasses. Bass parts were fun.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Jun 14 2023

I fell asleep to this album. But that was only because I was really tired after work. I gave it a relisten afterwards and it was quite wonderful. Interesting how different it is from the dance songs of today.
