More important to music history than it is to me.

Better than I expected. Some mid-tier blues wankery troubled me in a couple songs but good overall. Stoked to see what else Jeff has in store.

Not big on Bowie. Still am not. Beatles cover was cool.

Found this very boring. Borderline annoying. I guess I don’t like the Cure. 1 star.

Solid album that is actually not a compilation. First one back from the army and he’s trying new things. A couple snoozers but overall a success.

Good album. It’s got some of their hits. Produced by the legend Steve Albini. Was very influential in its time and I believe it deserves that credit. Strong 3 light 4.

Loved the crowd energy and some songs carried that through. In terms of a live album I have a hard time believing it’s his best. It’s 35 mins long and he’s re-introduced late in the album and it messes with the flow.

A masterclass in production and engineering. Good album, some great songs, but there’s a certain campiness(?) that I don’t always jive with.

Likely not their best, it’s sandwiched between two classics in their discog. You can tell the wheels are turning and the songwriting is fairly strong but not quite up to the highs of the former or latter.

While the lyrics are quite tame now, when this came out it ruffled a lot of feathers with the government. Musically I thought it was good but not great. Often long-winded.

It’s what you’d expect when you see the names but entertains none the less. Classic rendition of Ipanema is a highlight.

Good ideas, heavy for the time, but I didn’t love it. Didn’t find anything worth latching on to.

I like it a lot. Not much to be said that hasn’t already been beat to death. Not my favourite genre typically but this album excels. Certified classic.

Wow this was great. Only ever heard the singles. Very solid record with interesting ideas. Pop but genre pushing.

Never heard this before but was pleasantly surprised. First half is stronger than the second but still a strong 3.

Really good! Can see why she’s so highly regarded. Great voice, great performance, and good songs too.

Pretty cool proto-punk with some early Ska elements. Both heavier and poppier than I expected. I dig it. Four stars.

Nice album from Ray. The first half are big band numbers which I think work quite well. The second half is more ballad based but also enjoyable. The talent seeps through and is an enjoyable listen. Strong 3

Pretty nice psych-rock record from the era of the Beatles. Not sure I’ll be revisiting it soon, but I’m not mad at either. Tough to be in the same space and time as the Beats. 3 stars!

Decent singles. The ugly piano all over a few tracks sullies them. I’m still not seeing what everyone sees. Overall it’s ok. Right down the middle. 2.5

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. That is to say, the first part of a different Gershwin as the recommended album is 3+ hrs in length. Still, great voice and some unexpectedly fun songs.

Haven’t been a huge fan historically.. with this record, I’d say it mostly lands with me. A few really strong songs. “You Gotta Move” sucks though.

Her first record, thought it was pretty strong. A couple of the poppier moments aren’t great imo but decent songwriting throughout. the back half is also strong, held up by the single (all I wanna do) which is still great.

Going in I thought I’d like it more. I think the heavy parts are cool and he’s got a decent voice. Problem is he sings so long. Like hurry up dude. Idk not my favourite. Light 3

A classic! Strong songwriting and likely some of his best. I’m sure his voice is not for some people, but I’m not one of them.

Could only find this on YouTube. Cool record. Nice examples of early sampling, solid tunes. Not my typical genre but it’s a fun listen. Strong 3

It’s Sinatra, not much to say. Decent tunes, strong musicianship and all contributions by Jobim tend to be highlights.

Not at all what I expected. Super weird and proggy with a lot of parts that go on too long. Based on some Classical piano thing I think. A prog rendition. Honestly not mad at it though, solid 3

Great record with some of Prince’s most popular tracks. Haven’t been too hip to Prince until now but willing to change.

This one is not my favourite. “Earn enough for us” is a big highlight but the rest just falls flat for me.

Classic record which in no small part birthed Neo Soul. Sick bass lines all over it and it’s an excellent listen if you’re into this sort of thing.

Haven’t listened to much Hole outside of the hits. The quality is pretty consistent throughout and a really fun listen. Strong 3

Some good African jazz vibes. Didn’t blow me away.

Good album, especially for the time. Dig the introspective lyrics for the most part. That being said, it’s too long and I think I’m too old to relate at this point. Very light 3

Not my vibe usually but I guess it was ok. Too long. Some cool transitions between songs and the production is good (albeit maybe too loud) some surprisingly good songs (“Underappreciated”) as well as surprisingly bad ones (“Make Over”) It does have some of xtinas biggest hits and they hold up imo.

This one is a victim of time for me. Just too old, man. With the exception of Blueberry Hill I didn’t care much for it.

More African Jazz. Liked it a bit more than the recent Toure album they’re not doubt influenced by.

Solid record. Not my fav from him but certainly worth a listen if you’re into this sort of thing.
