1001 Albums Summary

Far too milquetoast and inoffensive. While listening, I never felt the album was *bad*, but that it just didn't grabbed my attention. Far too many of the songs faded into each other and left me with an experience that wasn't at all memorable.

This was everywhere back in '08 and still holds up now as a decent play. Pretty good crossover rock album with some big singles. It does sound same-y at some points, but the music doesn't overstay its welcome.

Listening to this album, I'm in one of two of minds. The first is to acknowledge the production values (the quality of the album itself) and then the huge influence that it had. This album was everywhere and had a gigantic influence on hip-hop going forward in the 21st century. Eminem is at the top of his game here and his skill is surely sitting at the summit of all-time hip-hop greats. The second, though? I don't like it. There's only so often you can listen to blatantly misogynistic or homophobic lyrics before any original point is lost and you're sat there with a bad taste in your mouth. Is it a no holds-barred look at modern American society couched in offensive, shock humor? Maybe. That doesn't make it any less unpleasant to listen to.

Classic album. Lots of finely crafted music and you get a great live selection at the end.

Listened twice, it's that good! Great selection of tracks and Bowie at some of his best. Apparently he was so coked up that he can barely remembering the making of this album. Even if I was on that much drugs, I don't think I'd forget my first time listening to this. Excellent.

Didn't think it was as bad as some of the other reviews make out on here. Probably would have been received better as a rock opera than a hip-hop concept album, but I enjoyed it. Definitely nails that working-class British culture of the mid-oughts, even if the previous album was more deserving of a place on the list (in my opinion).

The track list on this album is downright legendary. Some great songs on here (even if I think a few were covered better later). King has a wonderful voice that guides you through every song and lets you experience it fully. A great listen!

Not bad, but not particularly inspiring either. As a few others have pointed out, it sounds like a collection of B-sides. There are a few Beach Boys albums worth listening to; this is probably toward the bottom of that list.

Experimental, iconoclastic jazz. Not the biggest fan of Mingus but this is certainly an interesting listen. Not sure I connected with the record, but I can still give points for the craft on display.

To make it clear: I like Coldplay. They've always been considered a bit of a 'Marmite' band. You either love them or hate them. While I wouldn't go that far in my admiration, I don't mind a listen now and again. This album has some big hits on it as well as some good instrumentation. A pleasant listen.

Talking Heads at their best. Be sure to listen to the deluxe version for outtakes that highlight the musicianship on display.

A soundtrack album! Yes, it's a bit dated now but it's a fun listen. Can't help but think there are much better Isaac Hayes albums though.

The one with Layla. In all honesty, it's a rather so-so attempt at a Blues album overshadowed by a genuinely 10/10 song in the track list.
