All Things Must Pass by George Harrison
Sep 26 2023

I am not a Beatles fan, or a Harrison fan. I love my sweet lord, but nothing else connected with me. I'm giving this a 3 because I recognize that the greater world loves the Beatles.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Oct 02 2023

1. The solo in highway star is much better on the studio album. It's cleaner, and packs more of a punch. The solo in the live cut felt like the guitarist was saying "hold my beer" while clearly having had a few too many beers. 2. Holy lots of screaming batman. Somewhere, somewhen someone was high and thought this was the greatest song ever written, I'd disagree. Holy shit, did they steal a riff from Achilles last stand?! Good lord long solo is long. It's not bad, but I think you have to be a big fan of them to dig this and I'm not. Nice ending though! Oh shit, that's not the ending, we're only halfway in! Skipping to next track. 3. Ok, I'm a sucker for british singers explaining shit live before a song...i get chills every time. More bands should do this - it's intimate, makes the show feel special. So many bands just come on, do their thing, and leave. This is a classic song, it's great, the bass is amazing in this live cut. A++ 4-7: rest of the album plays out like I expected the rest. It's not the worst thing I have heard, and I like Deep Purple well enough, but live albums aren't usually my thing unless I REALLY like the band.

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
Oct 03 2023

Siamese Dream is a masterpiece. I was a teenager in the 90s, and had limited funds back then, and the pumpkins weren't quite in my radar yet (I was a big STP fan). Listening to the whole album now (I knew all the hits) I wish I would have listened to this as an angsty teen. I would be a much bigger pumpkins fan now if I had. I can like this album, but I can't love it, because it doesn't have that connection to my past. I'm still giving it 5 stars, because it is fucking amazing.

Faust IV by Faust
Oct 04 2023

A combination of noise and 70s action / porn music that likely spawned all the memes about what 70s porno music sounded like. Awesome, but pretty boring.

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Oct 09 2023

I know that if you like Reggae, you are supposed to worship at the alter of Bob, but I do, and I don't. I always found Bob's tracks to be too floaty and often wondered if it would hit harder if I was actually high. Since I have never been, and don't intend to be, I'll never know. I don't know...3 stars for the same reason I'll rate anything Beatles related - this is supposed to be the premier artist of the genre, but it doesn't speak to me.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Oct 10 2023

As well as not being a Beatles fan, I'm not a Stones fan either. I like a bunch of their songs, but they are just kind of meh to me. This album has two great Stones songs, but the rest don't speak to me.

Oct 16 2023

A few hit singles - Hey Ya! hasn't aged well. The way you move is the best track off this, but it's not that good. This is not the Atliens Outkast. By this album, they were more commercial. I'm not an expert, nor a huge fan, but I love Aquemini and this isn't that.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Oct 17 2023

4 songs at > 12 minutes each...ahh. I think if I had listened in a different mood this would have been better received.

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Oct 20 2023

I like the album that came after this better, but this is the one with a lot of their famous songs.

Cross by Justice
Oct 23 2023

Na, this is too busy. I like some EDM, but the few tracks I listened to didn't do it for me.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Oct 24 2023

More of a fan of the hits, this has probably my favorite early MJ song (Rock with you). I'm not really into anything else though on this album, even Don't stop till you get enough.

The Next Day by David Bowie
Oct 25 2023

Not feeling it at all. Bowie should have stayed in the 70s

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
Oct 26 2023

I know that 1 album may not be indicative of their overall sound, but if you were looking for the early 70s version of Nickleback, you found it. I take that back, these guys are worse.

xx by The xx
Oct 30 2023

Love Islands - one of the few songs I can play on a bass. The rest of the album is ok.

Boston by Boston
Oct 31 2023

Absolutely amazing album. This is one of those albums that is just killer. Can't say enough good about it. It's like the Cars first album in that every song is terrific.

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi
Nov 02 2023

Saccharine hair rock at the height of its popularity. I liked these songs the first 3424352345234523452 times I heard them. Now I just want them to go away. They don't do anything interesting musically. Raise your hands is ok-ish still, because it wasn't over played on the radio and was in SpaceBalls. 3 stars on this because I listened to the songs and know their names, but if I never heard these songs again it'd be ok.

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Nov 06 2023

I started listening to this, and was like "this isn't the album I remember really liking" then I realized it was The Verve Pipe's album with one hit on it, not the Verve's album with one hit on it. three stars I guess - the famous song on this one was better, but the Verve Pipe's album was better overall.

S&M by Metallica
Nov 07 2023

I don't like new Metallica. This is new Metallica. So overrated, so boring, and so irrelevant since the 90s. Just go away. 2 stars because it is not noise and it is not country

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Nov 08 2023

This album is a timeless classic. While I don't know if segways between songs was a thing in the 70s before this or not - but this album flows so beautifully.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Nov 09 2023

Let's Stay Together and the sample of Chicago's Color my world (how to mend a broken heart) are the big stand outs - otherwise nothing feels amazing about this album to me.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Nov 10 2023

Can't do it. Look, people love this band, and I get it, sort of. The staccato delivery of both the music and the lyrics is just too grating for me. Probably the only song I can deal with is burning down the house, because the music is kind of moody in that.

American Idiot by Green Day
Nov 13 2023

I hate green day - I won't listen.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Nov 20 2023

Classic Tribe - not a lot to say except it's butter.

Who's Next by The Who
Nov 21 2023

Baba and Won't get fooled? Yes please

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Nov 22 2023

I think I love the idea of the Doors, more than I love the Doors. Great song or two on this one, but the non singles don't jump out and do much for me on this one.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Nov 23 2023

Not a big Kanye fan, but this has one of his best songs on it.

Sea Change by Beck
Dec 11 2023

I'm giving this album 4 stars based on one song. Lost cause is a masterpiece.

Dec 15 2023

I don't like his voice, or his production. I get that he is massive, but he doesn't speak to me.
