At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Oct 06 2023

!! I love Cash's deep voice and the country town lilt is so pleasing to the ear. You can really feel his passion and love for performance. The fact that they left the audience interactions and Cash's jokes and laughs in the recording was a nice touch and made Cash feel like such a real one. He definitely gives off the vibes of a cheeky but world weary street smart guy. Very charismatic and charming too. From his spotify synopsis, he's a world war 2 vet too and his music was a major impact on post war music. Seems like he became popular around the same time as rock and roll, etc so he must have been quite influential. It'd be interesting to watch a documentary about him. Interesting idea to record the songs in a prison concert too. The music feels very quintessential country/blues and the lyrics are very literal lol but they really tell a story. There's a sense of humor that you don't see much in pop music nowadays. It's quite dark sometimes too, one of the songs is literally about someone counting down the minutes till his hanging. I'm not so familiar with this genre, but I think this is quite common for the genre. It's very much like passing down stories. I wonder how the prison audience actually felt about some of the songs.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Oct 09 2023

Not as big of a fan of this album than I thought i would be. Really enjoyed the title track but the album in general is really conceptual. Not a bad thing! Just not my cup of tea.

Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Oct 10 2023

Stevie wonder has a really flexible voice and his vocal control is just amazing. His range in terms of musicality is also so interesting. Within a single album, it feels like he explored a lot of different ideas which is cool. "They won't go when I go" is a really interesting one, might be my favourite just because it's so theatrical/dramatic.

a lot more psychedelic than I normally listen to but cmon it's pink floyd. It's a classic and for good reason - it's weird and conceptual and makes me feel like i'm high and in space but strangely, it still works. I'm a sucker for the more musical songs like Money but the strange and funky instruments and sounds are so intriguing. Love the way the vocals are produced too btw. Overall, just a good ol' classic.

American Idiot by Green Day
Oct 12 2023

it's been a while since i listened to this album and it's a classic for a good reason

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Oct 13 2023

I really wanted to like this but somehow it didn't fit my groove. I probably need more time with it and I'll gladly give it another listen in the future.

Fun House by The Stooges
Oct 17 2023

love the genre already so not hard to enjoy this. The songs in this album had a good flow, but don't really pop out to me. Love the grunge style though.

Roots by Sepultura
Oct 18 2023

metal's not usually my cup of tea so this was an interesting foray

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Oct 19 2023

absolute classic. love the album and can definitely hear how it's inspired other music

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Oct 20 2023

interesting but not my favourite i think? although the first track was nice and felt nostalgic

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Oct 23 2023

i expected to like it more but i think it's not really my type of music. I don't personally enjoy the flowing spoken word style lyrics but i can appreciate it. River was my favourite song in the album

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
Oct 24 2023

love it! not my typical listening but the funk and history feels great. gives me the same vibes as listening to johnny cash's live albums. should listen to more of this type of music

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Feb 02 2024

great album. became one of my favourites in 2023 actually! really love the mix of vocals and the sentimental nostalgia it gives me even though i'd never listened to it before. I'm a little sad mixed vocal groups aren't more popular! ps.. just read up on the history of the band........ why can't people just be normal :(
