funky and upbeat, super interesting band to read about. standout song is 'sing a simple song', i enjoyed the whole album as background listening as i know very little about soul/funk but want to explore more. whenever i see a song significantly longer than others on the album i get a bit apprehensive (looking at you 'sex machine') but it didn't derail this album or become too self indulgent.
jangly guitar, harpsichord and organ - very sixties. not really my thing but i can hear a distant relative of the kinks and the beach boys in their music. favourite song is beechwood park for the slightly spooky organ lurking throughout. definitely heard time of the season and butcher’s tale elsewhere before, probably from my dad.
soulful and jazzy with a few funky numbers. felt like a beat cop in the seventies driving around listening to this. favourite song was mother nature
fun disco pop, some songs i know incredibly well and some i’ve never heard before. i think this helped my hangover in terms of a morale boost whilst laying on the sofa. favourite song i’d heard before was fernando, best new song i hadn’t heard was tiger.
made me download apple music to listen to this. didn’t really do much for me, like a lot of these albums i imagine it was pioneering at the time but listening back it doesn’t have the same impact. favourite song was down by the river
another iconic folk rock artist that unfortunately didn’t do much for me, but i could potentially blame that on trying to listen whilst driving and being in an open plan office. if i had to pick my favourite song would be idiot wind (mostly for the title)
smooth jazz with a smooth voice. made me want to be dumped so i could use this as my soundtrack.
took a day's break to ensure i could fully appreciate this album as i was feeling a bit burnt out. great synth pop vibes and a pretty consistent album, fun to hear the the massively popular singles nestled amongst the other songs. favourite song was policy of truth because i'm a basic bitch
this is what i think of when people say jazz - super complex at times but also laid back, really cohesive album. favourite song was take five because it just had to be!
this is the first record i’ve actually been able to listen to on vinyl which is a very nice experience. fun stompy blues rock with some slow points. favourite song was proud mary
as someone who knows shockingly little of the beatles and their solo stuff i was glad i enjoyed this. favourite song was let it down
my first DNF of all the albums - couldn't find it on streaming and then once i did sit down to listen to it, it was too much for a quiet wednesday night. technically very interesting with all the polyrhythms but not for me
as a teenager hurt was always on mtv, it was one of the first songs i learnt on guitar. i never listened to a johnny cash album until today, and this album being a blend of covers and original work was really the perfect way to dip my toe in. favourite song is the man comes around, but i'll always have a soft spot for hurt
really not my type of thing but i tried. most interesting thing i learnt from listening to this album is that bon iver is better known for featuring on other albums than for his own work.
i'm not sure if there are any other curtis mayfield albums on this list but i wouldn't have put this on as the only one. a good album nonetheless but with none of the ear worms i usually associate with him. favourite song was 'so in love'
another DNF, a lot of talking on the album and nothing really caught my attention during the first few songs.
smooth chill jazz that was easy listening. not particularly standout but i'd rather listen to this than some of the more out there stuff this generator has been throwing at me. favourite song was all of you - take 3
another dnf but more because i ran out of time. not really my style but i knew some of the huge hits
i like this more than i thought i would, nothing mind blowing but again another influential album from the past for a reason.
jazzy and somewhat interesting but didn't keep my attention throughout
had only heard of this band through Nirvana, definitely something interesting and caught my ear.
felt a bit manic and was definitely not good music to work to, but i appreciated the jazzy big band style with the longer form songs.
again not my style but a fun little pop album, so many fade away outros
i had only heard 'fame' before but this is an absolute banger of an album. tend to enjoy bowie's rockier stuff but this was great fun to listen to
Fun American surf punk
nothing groundbreaking but more interesting than a lot of the more recent U2 songs I’ve heard
super distinctive voice, the album didn’t do much for me but i know of how iconic Cohen is
no major standouts, nothing terrible, but nothing great either.
I'll be honest, I have a massive blind spot when it comes to pop and Madonna in particular. This was a decent slice of late 90's pop that I dreaded listening to but actually ended up not hating
album was fine, passed quickly with no real standouts to me other than the obvious Every Breath You Take
the lyrics were so bad I had to stop
