Stankonia by OutKast
Jan 02 2024

Awesome layered beats funk, soul, rock guitar solos. The skits aren’t too long or corny like some albums and several absolute banger tracks

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Jan 03 2024

It’s funk. It’s jazz. It’s a classic for a reason. Chameleon and Watermelon Man are all time tracks but I’m not a huge fan of side B.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Jan 04 2024

David Byrne loves disco

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Jan 05 2024

The string arrangements are so good. Robert Christgau can suck it. This album is amazing. Perfect length and every song is good. Any longer and I think I would have tired but I think Cat absolutely nailed it.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jan 08 2024

Highs are so high but also sounds dated and a little corny. Still a couple of my all time favorite songs. Hate to do it but as a whole album it’s probably a 3

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Jan 09 2024

Mostly 45 minutes of the same song. I remember being 10 years old and thinking some of these were bangers. I was a really dumb kid. But to be fair the lyrics sound like they were written by a 16 year old trying to sound badass to his 10 year old little cousins - 2

Ingenue by k.d. lang
Jan 10 2024

Constant Craving was a huge hit when I was a kid. Huge lesbian anthem. I never liked it and never heard the rest of the album. Turns out that’s my least favorite song on the album. It’s wine drunk mom music. Well maybe I’m more adult. Maybe I’m more contemporary. Or maybe I’m a wine drunk middle aged butch. Either way this album hit tonight - 4 stars.

Djam Leelii by Baaba Maal
Jan 11 2024

Kinda like African Led Zeppelin in moments. Maacino Tooro is cool 😎. Wish there were more shredders/rockers Zamrock style. EEEEeeeeee-yahhhhAhahAhah Good music for working

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jan 15 2024

I’m feelin’ the same way all over again… 🔥 Can’t go wrong with a Hank Williams cover. Still not really my thing. It’s wild this is one of the best selling albums of all time. Decent album but I got hella bored - 2

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Jan 16 2024

Hip hop beats. Dirty drums. Layered strange instrumentation. Affected vocals. So much nostalgia it hurts. This album is fucking awesome

Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley
Jan 17 2024

I just don’t love the folkie scene but I learned he had a “sex funk” period in the 70s. Gotta check that out - 2

Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Jan 18 2024

Wow. I hate this shit. I don’t know if I can listen to the whole album. These people’s voices are infuriating. So around song 4 it became bearable but I would never choose to listen to this. Not sure how I made it to the end. I could have died happy without ever hearing this. Finally found a 1

Ray Of Light by Madonna
Jan 19 2024

Real good samples in here for modern club remixes. I like the upbeat songs most. Really good EDM production. The slow songs and the lyrics I don’t love. A little cringe

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Jan 22 2024

Oh hell yeah. I had this CD in 94. Pumped. This album is great. Is this stoner rock??RIP Chris Cornell 😢

The Wildest! by Louis Prima
Jan 23 2024

Well that was fun. Short and sweet. King Louie - 3

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Jan 25 2024

Honestly I love 60s pop. Could listen to this on repeat. Is it a great album? Nah. But i like it a lot. Above average. 4

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Jan 26 2024

Groundbreaking dance music. Heavy nostalgia for the raves I went to in my terrible tiny town in the 90s. The original release was 45 minutes. The US release is almost an hour. An hour is too much. I danced with my coffee. Really torn between 3 and 4 stars

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jan 29 2024

I love Creedence. 29 minutes of swamp. Take me back home. 5 motherfucking stars

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jan 31 2024

The hits are good but the rest of the album is boring.

Cross by Justice
Feb 01 2024

Pretty good. Great for a walk or workout.

Among The Living by Anthrax
Feb 02 2024

The crossover from hard rock/metal to skate punk. It’s good if a little one note. Kinda crazy how much this just sounds like generic hardcore from today. A testament to how influential it is

American Idiot by Green Day
Feb 05 2024

Pure power pop. First half is a 5. Second half is a 3. Overall 4 star album. Don’t call it punk

The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies
Feb 07 2024

Beautiful songs but just too slow for me. Throw in a banger sometime. Below average as a full album

Lost Souls by Doves
Feb 08 2024

Modern Macunians. I hear pieces of Oasis meets The Chemical Brothers. Even a little Liverpool with some nice Beatles harmonica pop. Clearly of a time and place with Radiohead but never quite reaching the heights of any of those bands. I love the swirling electronic backgrounds and experimental layers. Some nice melodies and I really enjoy when the album gets eerie. Catch the Sun feels so out of place. 30 seconds in I thought this was put on the album by a producer from the record label that wanted something “accessible” for the radio. The Man Who Told Everything is more of the same. These two songs feel out of place before we come back to the Cedar Room and the feeling I like best in the album. Really catchy and vibesy. Great music for cleaning the house on a Sunday morning. I guess that’s the old man version of the late night afterparty for which this was intended. The final track "A House" really ended strong. While the mainstream singles in the middle of the record were a low point there was a lot to like. Overall though it’s an average album

The Infotainment Scan by The Fall
Feb 09 2024

I really enjoyed the music. This is a very good example of post punk. Every modern British or otherwise talk-y vocal post punk band owes the Fall credit. Mark smith is fine. In 93 people still wanted a man to tell them about the world I guess. Sadly like so many social critics he became a cynical self important old man. Still I would listen to this again-uh. Still I would listen to this again-uh.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Feb 12 2024

Really interesting music. Great players. Frank is so unique. A lot of masturbatory soloing over one chord which knocks it down a bit on my ranking

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Feb 13 2024

Interesting I got this right after Zappa. Both mostly instrumental albums. The musicianship is great on both I wish this was more R&B than the easy, listening that it turns into for the second half of the album.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Feb 14 2024

Great samples. Great vibes. Groundbreaking in its time. RIP Phife. Starts and ends with a bang but the middle feels like one long track. F eels life coffee shop music in 2024

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Feb 15 2024

Great album. Almost perfect. There are a couple clunkers in the middle but put this on and go for a walk. You’ll love it. It’s also super nostalgic for me. High school rave in the middle of the country in a landlocked state vibes
