Lovely piano undertones.
Sing-songy.
I'd definitely put this on for a road-trip.
The opening let's me know this is gonna be a WILD FLARPING RIDE...
*organs intensify*
big themes
~~p4RRtiee t!m3~~
purple
but also red
horses? okay
saturdays
fast cars
sweatin' it to the oldies
syncopated clapping
ahhhhhh
an auditory massage
so smooth and silky
vanilla beans, swaying palms, warm water, and summer sunshine straight into your ears
the epitome of an easy listen...
the flavor profile of this album is Tyson's Crispy Chicken Strips.
It's one big note, useful if hungry, but not of the finer stuff.
maybe you had to be there? I dunno if personally live albums always translate well, the mixing is a little biased towards loudness over nuance.
Sometimes, it gives sly and the family stone
But then, there is a certain muffled, distorted distancing from the singer's voice. I dunno why, it reminds me of Radiohead?
introspective, longing, melancholic... he dives inward on piano joint
and then! is that a harp on another human being?
spacey, dreamy coffee shop vibes all around
Yay, okay now we're firmly in folk territory...pink moon was sweet & simple, I want to call it a ditty. I am getting wafts of Fleet foxes & Hozier.
Kinda sounds like a guy with his guitar gently messing around with some chords by a fireplace... This is about him processing his time, not about performance... Norwegian wood/ Beatles vibes. I like it for wintertime.
It's weird to think about this music co-existing at the same time as Michael Jackson or any other synthy early 80s pop. I'm not too familiar with the punk genre, it's probably not for me, but I respect that they're getting after it .
Irrrreeeeelanddddd? Scotland?
Lady birdy sounds, a little witchiness
Cranberries?
heavy SYNTH and jewel toned sounds
Hang on, this is only 1 vocalist? layers, layers, layers
"Lorelei" sounds familiar, although I swear I can't understand a single lyric.
This is the soundtrack to emerging out of a coma, desperately trying to make sense of the words with a limited understanding of how language works.
Triumphant!
Productive!
good working/ chore music!
lol, this has nothing to do with bossanova
Nice little album
It reminds me of LCD soundsystem or Bob Dylan-- a sort of narrative rock
...Take a walk on the wild side is gripping... the low bass notes, the story, the humming... me gusta, me gusta
first few tracks are giving video game music...high adrenaline, GTA, running through a city and doing crime. I listened while buying cushions from Ikea, which upped the ante considerably.
And then, a tone shift....
π "Every brother is a star, Every sister is a star" π
And then back to some alternative sounds.
It's v. hard to pinpoint the genre, and maybe that's just what the doctor ordered!
Very versatile, dreamy soundscape. I listened while doing other things, and it was mostly pleasant.
A F R I C A
This music feels good, great for chopping a bunch of tomatoes.
Obviously, unsure what's being said, but you can feel a general sense of goodwill, a positive sentiment from the lyrics, and that's gotta be good for us, right?
LA LA LIIII LA LA LAH LA LA LA LI LAHHH
wow, a whole album of static reverb.
I found this difficult to have running in the background as I worked or did other things. It's grating.
I had to shut it down mid album.
that's a catchy blister song
confessional strumming
bits of rage confetti
teenage angst
is this where greenday came from?
never realized how much xylophone is present on gone daddy gone.
Listened in one sitting. It's a love letter to England and also has some political commentary going on. I like how she uses outside melodies/media in a multi-layered backdrop.
I liked the The Colour Of The Earth... & Written on the Forehead... She's cool, I'd come back to her work sometime.
This was playing when I learned that Usher will perform the halftime show for the Superbowl on Feb. 11th. YEAH! I wanna hear Usher! Is Usher on this cursed list?
*UPDATE* None of Usher's albums are on the list, but U2 make it to the list 4 times!
GAH, subjective euro-centric (specifically British) refuse.
Richard Hawley, you do you. I was too distracted to listen closely.
jukebox tunes
I can hear elvis as an influence
it's mellow, love hurts is familiar
sounds of the late 60s...energetic, melodies with piano backing, short songs clocking in at less than 3 mins... Reminiscent of the Beatles or the Monkees.
Pleasant, morning music.
Did you ever notice how Beck and Michael Cera look alike?
I like it when Beck is in a better headspace. I wouldn't consider this album his best work, but I like him already so it was interesting to hear something unknown.
Music Tone: Spacey, distant, yearning, depressed, self-destructive, introspective
Played While: rainy day, making brownies, meal planning
Musical Influences: David Bowie, Beatles, Nick Drake
Ok, I can't believe this is from 2002!
The singles we all know - Work it, Gossip Folks, etc. - are well worn.
Woop! Hoo! Woo! (Missy Elliot background sounds)
Some okay B-side tracks, but nothing I'd return to.
Nice features -- BeyoncΓ©, Jay-z, TLC, Timbaland, 50 Cent...
Cool to see where singles originate from!
This album cover is NOT what I expected the accompanying music to sound like, lol!
Otherwise, I like the electric energy of the orchestra. Very playful. A good 'ole time.
If I was to host a swanky academic party, I might put this on as people got their drinks?
1977! Mom's graduation year
bum bum ba da bum!
Nothing more classic than that sound progression
GKDIDFJEIWWFFFFF#$21+++
LOTS OF RAGE. THIS ALBUM MADE ME KICK OVER A PARKED LIME SCOOTER, RAWWWWRRRR
I know it's a classic, but it just doesn't speak to me personally.
zabadaba doo dee doo ZATARAINS... this is so new orleans I feel like eating a poboy and dancing in the street with a horn. WILDIN
Ain't nothing like cruising around in the summertime listening to this album. Essential.
hmmm lethargic and I don't know how but it sounds like the morrison hotel would be super dusty, dim even. Waiting for the sun is okay. maybe this music is something that you just had to be there to get it, otherwise I can't discern the sparkle...
Upbeat & optimistic... would pair well with a long drive on the interstate π
new -agey, I liked it. the tone was a little bit everywhere (indian chants, nuclear tests, spoken word), but that's what gives it that groovy 90's coffeeshop feel.
Play this if you are emptying your garage on a summer morning. It's just the right feeling for that.
