1001 Albums Summary

Major Janelle Monae fan, this concept album links into her other work thematically and I LOVE the genre hopping. Sir Greendown and Oh, Maker are my faves and this is audacious music. But the whole thing soars. Masterpiece

Awesome and totally got me going. Saw a great film recently, One Night in Miami... that features a portrayal of Cooke. He was phenom. Loved this

Objectively not my bag, arena rock but this is pure joy and had some major bangers. Foreplay was epic and the B-Side was more turned down and richer.

Didn't connect lyrically with much of this but appreciated more musically. Pyramid was the best song lyrically and sonically with the greatest emotional impact.

Some good tracks, Jesus Walks and a track that samples some Lauryn Hill lyrics, which always works. There is also some humour in the lyrics. May listen to a few tracks again.

Epic. Looooooove Isaac Hayes with my whole life. He scored some amazing films in the 70's too and just totally had the goods. He buttered my soul alot. This was revolutionary. Sensational!

Talented but my enjoyment level was low. I've heard better songs from her that don't feature here. Not my bag.

This ignites memories for me, when I discovered great music through movies. A lot of these songs were part of that journey.

Epic. Papa was a Rolling Stone is immaculate. Whole album amazing. Sure a few of these tracks are on the soundtrack to one of my favourite films, Jackie Brown. Just amazing. Awesome

OMG another favourite. They are rolling out these amazing records. Lauryn Hill is one of my favourite artists ever and her MTV unplugged album should be in this list. Love her here as part of the Fugees. This has rahe and humour. Amazing poetry this is an all timer!!

Just not long ago watched a doc about Public Enemy. Was great. This is a great album and i enjoyed the lyrics. Person I was with when listening also loved and endorsed it, maybe a little more than me So for him 4 stars

Tonally all over the place but I lay listening and was swept up in it, a wee bit confused and sometimes emotional. The opening of pt.1 is so heavily associated with The Exorcist, it made me like it by default as that is one of the greatest ever movies. Feels big and monumental and shit.

Nina is my Queen. "Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair" is beauty itself!!!!
