I really like reelin' in the years. So far whole album is very summertime, chill hang out. Love the use of sax on album. Fire in the hole, loving that jazzy opening bumbumbum
First couple beats and I'm already digging it. LIVELY UP YOURSELF ~~~ another summertime chilling album. Sitting on a dock by a lake.
Fav: lively up yourself, them belly full (but we hungry)
I fucking love this album I don't even need to listen to it 5/5 stars amazing stunner top favs
Mom.... I'm scared....
Yeah, not for me. Its either indistiguishable or giving me anxiety LOL hard pass for me. not my style of music.
1.5 for me
Listen, I didn't dislike it. In fact I really enjoyed a lot of the riffs and solos on the guitars. Nothing really.... caught me though. Its like, if this band played live and my friend wanted to go, I'd go. It'd probably be stellar live. But I won't go out of my way to listen to this album again.
I'm a melodic, vocal line girly so of course my fav so far is love interruption. I like the piano licks on Weep Themselves to Sleep. Very groovy.
Second listen through, enjoyed it more and appreciated lyrics more. Problem is a lot of albums really need more than one listen (not kraftwerk tho). Liked hypocritical kiss and the silliness of I'm shakin'
I'm having a grand ole' time. The first song really is like I'm there, in a penguin cafe. The sudden tonal shift, it's like... you suddenly realize something's off... why are there penguins serving you in a cafe?
What a fucking weird album. Milk was so offputting, in a great way. That will be the one I show people from this album. Love the discordant element of it. The slightly off note intoning "In a Sydney Motel."
And then suddenly you're hit with the lengthy, complex "The Sound of Someone You Love Who's Going Away and It Doesn't Matter."
And I gotta say... it sounds like at the end.... it does matter....... Really enjoyed the story of the last couple minutes there.
3.5- An album I enjoyed, but I won't necessarily listen to again.
I wanted to like this album a lot more than I did. I know why it's included in the 1001, but it just... didn't do anything for me. Like technically, it's great. Just not for me. It's very background for me, not one song really caught my attention or held it (minus the talk box on the second). Sing a simple song was probably my fav of the bunch.
Also this may look like it has the same star rating as kraftwerk but I'd actually go back and give kraftwerk one star sooo....
The drums were groovy. I'll definitely check out their other stuff, but this album didn't move me in either direction.
It was alright, liked the beginning more. I'd say more but I'm writing this in a restaurant.
3.5, loved the jazz influence~~
I don't know there's just something I love about the chaos of this album. I can see why it inspired so many bands and artists after them
3.5, again I'm a fan of jazz-influenced music. Some of lyrics really got me laughing tho
3.5, great ambience music imo.
Definitely an album I'll listen to again. Really love his voice, and I love a good acapella song.
All the songs sound the same. Sonically it's fine, albeit boring. The most interesting part was the intro stuff to Kingfish- the discordant build of instruments had promise and then it went back to being rhe same thing we'd heard for 10 songs.
Lyrically, it's also boring. Apparently this album is supposed to be satire? Not very smart satire, if that.
3.5- hurt and gi e my love to rose are my favourite.
"I make fight music for high school kids" at least he knows. This album feels like it was written for white teen boys who scream at their mom. I do like some of eminems stuff so I really thought I'd like this album more. for a guy who says he doesn't care about what people think he sure does have to remind me every other song. I got bored halfway through. I kept checking how many songs I had left until it was over. It just got so repetitive thematically and lyrically.
"Then there ain't no reason a man and another man can't elope" damn eminem said LGBT rights 😌😌
Having to sit through a minute of fake dick sucking noises moves this album down to 1.5 stars.
Again, bored. Maybe I need a break ahahahaha
I love some well written, cryptic lyrics. Big fan of the discordance between the backing vocals and leonard cohen just fucking screaming at us in diamonds in the mine. Iconic.
Very 80s.
2.5, nothing really caught my attention.
Wouldn't seek this out for listening, but if it came on a playlist when I'm working I wouldn't change it. My favourite: watermelon man - HE NO DEAD HE NO DEAD HE NO DEAD!!!!!!
Got really funky 13 minutes into in a silent way. This type of music is not really my go-to- im definitely someone who seeks out music with lyrics. Might have to get high and give this a listen again.
I like the pixies a lot I've discovered- I just end up grooving.
I enjoyed the sound, but it was very samesy to me. All the tracks kind of blended into each other.
Right up my alle- kind of background music which is not a diss from me. I'll definitely add this to my journal/early morning rotation.
4.5 i mean, there's a reason this is considered an iconic, ground-breaking album.
3.75/4- guess I'm discovering that I'm really into the 90s grunge sound. There's something so nostalgic about this sound, even though I was not partying in the 90s. Makes me wish I was haha
I really haven't listened to much Elvis, beyond the biggest hits that everyone knows. It was fine. I love a good harmonica.
IM BORED GRANDPA
Would have been a three, because even if it's not my thing, there's nothing about it that's like... bad or offensive to my ears. But it's a touch too long for me, so 2.75.
Really grooved with some of the guitar and drums. 3.25
I agree with the other reviewer- why are live albums on this list?
Another meh from me. Again, if it was playing at a barbecue I wouldn't be writhing in my skin. But nothing is standing out or catching my interest 2.5
Im getting a clearer picture on who compiled this list.
See, I think normally I'd just give this a solid 3, but I've had a run of dad rock bands and I'm getting tired. I like it more than the Who's Live album, but it's still giving music at Dad's barbecue. Which isn't bad, but isn't anything particularly exciting for me.
I know i was just side-eyeing how much dad rock was on this list, but c'mon it's Aerosmith it was a good time!!!! 3.75
i actually love when movies are sampled in music, but i prefer ones that are more incorporated into the music and less "clip from movie. beat. song starts."
This album was not for me. Took me two tries to get through, and I kinda just tuned it out.
Was having a good time, until we started shittin' and fartin' on the last track. I need someone to explain to me the inspiration there.
it was fine. the singles were the bops for sure, the rest of it kind of bled together.
Great album.
Feel like I need to give this another listen- I put it on at work, but based off other reviews, it looks like the lyrical content is important here.
Late summer, early fall coded.
