Fun psychedelic acoustic hippie vibes. Band sounds great, but imbalanced production with vocals being a little too hot. Some songs really dragged on for a long time. Some great folksy tracks sprinkled in. Harmonica kind of made me wanna hurt myself. Really talented guitar. I can see how, with the help of some psychedelic enhancements, this album lead the mid 60’s
Is Zappa a genius or just crazy? Well it doesn’t really matter because either way, I don’t think anyone will listen to these tracks more than once. Some incredible song structure and fun ideas with complex key changes. Really fun combos of instruments, especially with some of them playing in unison. Can’t say I’ve ever heard a tenor sax and a xylophone share a melody line before. But the chaos is just too much to enjoy most of the time.
This album is so much fun. Totally accomplished what it was made to do. The solos are very simple and not super impressive. But the grooves and the tempo for each song I feel was picked really well. Maybe a few too many fade-outs but hey it’s Steely Dan.
It was ok. Nothing really special. Kind of sounded like Phil Collins but the songs just dragged on for too long. I appreciate the introspective vibes throughout. Might be a good listen on like a moody day or smt😂

This album is pretty much perfect. So original, so much fun. Maybe one or two too many fade-outs but it’s the 70s and pretty much every song ended that way in that era. Titular song goes hard. Honestly all the lyrics are clever and fun. Percussion stuff is psycho and interesting and fun. Loved this whole album a lot.
I feel like saying “this album is unlistenable” is pretty racist because I don’t understand a damn word😂 but I did not listen through every song nor will I ever😆 I do love Baaba Maal when he’s featured on Mumford and sons tho!
Really cool bass lines and thoughtful chord structure. Got a little bored with it though in the second half

The best thing about this album is the balance between stage and crowd volume. It’s really nicely leveled, making it listenable but still keeping that fun live audience sound. Super talented musicians. Really fun jazz doo-wop stuff. Night train kind of lacked an ending tho as did the whole album but such is the nature of a live album I guess
Pretty tough to just enjoy. I know that it’s like an amazing poetic experience but I don’t think Stevens really fleshes out his think points very well. Even for spoken word, it’s a little too artistic to be listenable. I kind of just wish he’d orchestrate some songs with no lyrics and just write orchestral stuff cuz I found that to be very interesting
Man this album is so sad😆 All of it just makes me sad tbh but ig that’s kinda what it’s designed to do. And the beats and grooves are so good that sometimes I was just boppin’ along and not even realizing the terrible sad stuff he was rapping about😂 I can’t find anything wrong with this album other than all the Vicodin
So creative and so cutting edge especially for the time. I enjoyed all of it but it started to get repetitive towards the end. Started really strong tho and I love the radio stuff he plays around with
Other than wanting to snap the harmonica player’s neck, I enjoyed this at a very simple level. Just simple music setting relatable scenes. The assortment of instruments was a nice touch. Altogether, whelming

This album is cheerful tour through hell, led by a nonsensical and charismatic narrator—doomsday music I can get behind. I appreciate the eerily poetic lyrics as well as the overarching theme of revenge.

I have a distant affection for Frank Zappa but this album is too much. I can appreciate satirical and parodic music, but this takes it too far. I appreciate the mocking reference to Sherry in the melody lines. But the best thing about this album is the cover art.

Uninspired wandering through punky mood swings, I did not enjoy this album. There are some great melodic ideas that were not fleshed out to be something truly lasting. The lyrics, though interesting, mean nearly nothing. And when they do mean something, it’s disturbingly perverted.
What a gift, my life is better for hearing this album. The voicing in each instrument is so beautiful and full of character, I swear you can hear lyrics sung by each soloist. Every instrument shines in this unique cast of characters. The story this tells is incredible. Incredible work, I’m still tapping my foot
This album feels like running away from home. I love the dystopian feel. Every now and then some hope shines through in the hopeless minor environment. The lyrics are vivid and provoking. If you have nothing to do and no where left to go, put on the best sound quality headphones and listen to this story uninterrupted.
Unremarkably interesting music. Extremely whelming, I found some interest in this but not enough to excite me.
In hindsight, this is very average to me. I know Beck inspired so many of the guitarists who represent classic rock, but aside from Beck’s individual playing, the music itself is uninspired.

Each song transitions well into the next. The album tells a well defined story of a kid clawing his way to the top. Though it’s possible I’m desensitized by today’s brutalist rap culture, but the bars seemed very cute. Though he doesn’t carve out a new lane, Nas does well in everybody else’s, and I enjoyed it all the same
This blew my mind. This album has a ridiculous concept that was somehow executed. I think this album will age well. Don’t listen to any individual songs, but when you have the time to binge this album, it’s like watching the strangest show you’ve ever not seen. This was an absurd idea for an album that turned out as well as it could have. This is one that I still think about when I ask myself which albums changed how I see music. This is music you can see. It’s not perfect, but that’s kind of why I like it too
This band is too talented to be making such bad music. The drummer is so dynamic. The bassist is soulful and interesting. But this music is difficult to even get through. They write a funky groove and then ruin it by singing about something insane like licking and spitting. Please stop singing about licking and spitting. Some really interesting grooves that just didn’t go anywhere. I did not like this
This was a little weird. I was so ready to dig into this one and it did not deliver what I hoped. There’s a reason we don’t hear about this band more. I think that reason is because his songs are so easily skippable. I like the first minute of each song. This is a good sampler platter, but not a fully realized album.
So much fun. Upbeat energy the entire way through, so I’d only fault the work by pointing out its lack of depth. But that’s not the albums purpose. It fulfills it’s purpose—keep the beat up—very well.

What a beautifully sincere piece of art, this album is so simple and completely original. Her voice is so deep! And she uses her voice like an old rich instrument. This was a really great example of using music as protest. It was bold but so sincere and unobtrusive.
What I can only describe as music for cave people. Did not enjoy
