sweet and unapologetically melancholic. never thought i would have ever liked an album like this. the highest points are heartfelt, sincere and humble. all of this infused with a sense of misery throughout, and a haunting atmosphere (especially when fiona apple vocals appear). also how great the album flows is still astonishing to me, with that really good ending song. i can see lana del rey latest releases being really influenced by him overall. i didn't think i would say this, but maybe i should give a chance to all this americana stuff.
maybe, but just maybe, i'm living in the wrong time period to appreciate this album to the fullest. i still liked it, don't get me wrong, but in this space and time it feels like something I've already listened to and it being kinda repetitive didn't help. it just comes to show how influential it was overall. i liked the raps, the production and the feeling of a cohesive piece of work throughout the album (if it wasn't so repetitive though). in retrospective, iconic, i get it, but not my cup of tea when it comes to hip hop.
sooo passionate, it's a great pop rock record, really fun if we consider the year it was released. it's that 70s love story album, and i don't careit still sound cute. it's one of those cases where the peak of an artist is also it's mainstream peak. someone told me it found the album kitschy, but why do we care? is it really that bad of a critic?
what. that's what standard prog should sound like, and i don't care, i like it.
i don't know what to make of this record, if i like it or not. there are a few highlights, but man if the lows are lows. a great thing is that is mostly a fun album, i wouldn't get mad if i listened to it again, but i just don't get it. the opening of the album, \"toys in the attic\" is considered to be a first proto-punk track, but i don't think so at all. \"uncle salty\" is such a messy track that i think i grew to even like it (?), \"walk this way\" is so overplayed that whatever i say would be influenced by it. \"adam's apple\" is boring, but \"sweet emotion\" still sounds good like \"no more no more\". oh, and something everyone agrees to, what a bad closing track, so bad considering \"round and round\" is not bad at all. it's good to have a designated image and sound to that 70s sleazy youth, but maybe i just don't care that much like those guys (my father). and everywhere they like this album, i just can't seem to be or feel impressed, i just don't know what to do with it.
lush, sophisticated, pretty jazz album, just... pretty. the three stars feel better here, i always feel like i have to give an "iconic album star" but doesn't make much sense now. "nightgale" is probably my fave in the album, along with "the nearness of you" also my most played song of the album. would i listen to it again? who knows
i had a lot of prejudice going on with this album, almost did not wanna hear it only for that horrible cover. however, this is actually good, i thought it was ambitious enough and honestly it made a statement. maybe too long but i don't know if shorter it would still sound good. i liked the beats and the arrogant raps, quite old school too but really good old school, might need a second listen before rating it though (just because of that denzel curry video about old school raps that i can't get out of my mind)
it's so beautiful, 70s aesthetic, didn't get bored with it. heck if this is "elevator music" for most people then it's great "elevator music". i had so much fun and will probably listen to it again.
masterpiece, one of my favorite albums of all time
didn't really have time for a full review, but i liked it a lot. i enjoyed most of the tracks (especially the istrumental)
depeche mode are part of a category of music i just can't fully get into that i like to call "my dad's band". thankfully, the 80s synths still sound good (im gen z and gen z loves 80s synths)
well, at least it's catchy. not my thing i'm so sorry
i don't really like vocal jazz, but this album was a surprise. yeah, it's safe, but we gotta put it in perspective. might come back to this in late night hours, and i wouldn't feel bad about it but maybe really sad, also, really pretty strings and lyrics. i can say that among more "mainstream albums" this is for sure one to listen to. it brings yourself to that old 50s american film, that kind of atmosphere. really melancholic. 3 1/2 for me.
i love this album, if i could i would rate it right away because what more can i say about it?
atmospheric, one of the best wu tang related projects
this album makes me feel like it's on the edge for something bigger, problem is, it never really goes there for me. it's still great and will relisten, i think the only one time listen it's not enough for this album. it goes kinda proggy, yeeeaaah... but. BUT. i really like the jazzier vibes this album has throughout. gonna give it a 4, will i repent from this rating? probably yes.
i don't really like live albums, don't know why this is here but it's fine i guess (?). i think that someone that has actually studied music can enjoy to the fullest the live performances from the musicians, maybe i'll change my mind.
they made electronic music human, HOW CAN ENJOY THIS MORE THAN I ALREADY DO.
probably gonna be one of the most listened albums of this period for me.
i'm 50/50 on this album, it was a game changer, rhymes were pretty good considering the times and mainstream music, i don't think i liked the beats as much. as for the lyrics, 1 it's a product of it's time and 2 we can't act like in those days people had the same sensibility of today when saying certain shit. i don't know, i just feel like even with tyler the creator for example people wouldn't be so judgmental about past stuff (different case i know, but you get the gist). whether or not we like an artist shouldn't get in the way when listening to music, because it makes us not objective of the actual product then you can be subjective and find a middle ground between the two.
great surf rock influences, might like to listen to this when on a hangover.
FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN
great harmonies, don't have much to say about this album.
one of my favorite bjork albums, really grew on me with each listen, it's such a pleasant experience. really no words for this. ICON.
i just love her, sublime album, haunting vocals, political when it has to be, she's built different. the only thing it's the feeling of her voice outshining the rest of the composition, but it's ok.
i don't think that my words towards this album will ever be enough.
so fun and inspired by many different things, i always like to come back to it once in a while.
soft, young but husky voice, really pleasant album to listen to front to back. thing is that i felt it almost too long
