3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Jul 15 2024

anal bum a day 1 My first experience with De La Soul was right when I was getting into music, I found out about their stuff through a frequent collaborator of theirs, Damon Albarn with Gorillaz. Unfortunately, I think this album falls a little flat compared to the praise that it gets. There's some fantastic stuff on here, but the album is so bloated that it's just a slog to get through. There's really only 3 standout tracks, those being: The Magic Number, Eye Know, and Me Myself and I. All that being said, it's still a great album. While the verses really aren't all that crazy, the high points are high enough for me to enjoy it. 7/10

Jul 16 2024

anal bum a day 2 Never really been a Nirvana fan, I've always seen them as the worst of the big 4 grunge bands (the others being Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains). This is for sure one of the better MTV Unplugged performances, but it PAILS in comparison to the Alice In Chains one. The uncanny feel of this performance really makes it special, it's just not my favorite. Still holds up well, I can imagine revisiting from time to time. 7.5/10

Be by Common
Jul 17 2024

anal bum a day 3 LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO! I'm so glad that whoever made the list included this one, Common used to be one of my favorite rappers a couple years ago, and this was my favorite from him. I'm familiar enough with Be to say that it is one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever created. Riddled with Kanye West and Dilla production, the instrumentals are extremely uplifting and soulful. "I was rollin' around, in my mind it occurred What if God was a her? Would I treat her the same? Would I still be runnin' game on her? In what type of ways would I want her? Would I want her for her mind or her heavenly body?" Common's verses are fantastic and his storytelling is inspiring. I can't hear these songs and be in a bad mood. 9/10

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Jul 18 2024

anal bum a day 4 alright the generator REALLY doesn't want us to give up this time Rage Against the Machine is one of those bands that is just so culturally significant that this HAD to be on the list. Politically charged funk metal band RATM releases one of the most iconic debut albums of all time on November 3, 1992, the day of the presidential election of Bill Clinton. This record is chock full of insanely catchy riffs and sarcastic writing. The energetic delivery of Rocha's vocals really sells the whole thing, and it's pretty hard to not yell along. FUCK man this album is fire. 8/10

The Doors by The Doors
Jul 19 2024

anal bum a day 5 Alright FINALLY a first listen album. I'm unfamiliar with any of the context of this album, but I am aware it was released in 1967. That being said, this album does NOT sound like it was released in 1967. what the FUCK. I really didn't expect to like this, but I thoroughly enjoyed every song. absolute heat 7.5/10

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Jul 22 2024

anal bum a day 6 one of zappa's most eclectic projects. I don't know much about this album but I do know that people LOVE zappa. I'm just going to see how it goes and write what I think after listening. alright yeah it was pretty fire, the playing on this album is great not many thoughts on this one 7.5/10

Aug 08 2024

british guys can cook its crazy actually all of these songs are enjoyable the highs are very high and the lows are still great crazy underrated stuff here

i had no idea what to expect it's not the kind of "industrial" that i'm used to, but this is pioneering for 1978 at times it feels very uneasy and at others its legitimately depressing there are some kind of weak spots for sure, and that's to be expected. it's not the greatest thing ever, but it pleasantly surprised me.
