At Newport 1960
Muddy WatersClassic blues.
I already knew I loved this.
Idk Radiohead can do no wrong in my eyes. Why didnโt someone make me listen to them in high school? People always talk about Ok Computer but this album is awesome too.
Not for me. I understand why itโs included in the list. A lot of talent here, but Iโll never play this for fun.
There are a couple songs I adore on this album, but other than that it feels pretty mid. Disjointed, even.
Evergreen. One of the songs on the album, This Will Be Our Year, I had heard out of context, and I thought it was modern. So melodic. Almost makes me wish I came of age in the late 60s. Almost. ;)
I adore this. It means a lot to me that he would give a show to prisoners, and I love hearing him talk like a normal person between songs. I also love the songs. Clever lyrics, good instrumentation. Iโm so glad I listened.
At first I really hated this and wondered why it was included on the list. Then I started to hate it less. Still, I wonโt listen again.
Not for me, but I respect it. The album is comprised of only six songs, but theyโre long. Given my relationship to music and how I listen right now (while driving in the car at work), I felt like it dragged. I usually didnโt like the beginnings of songs, but by they hit their grooves at the end I started to vibe with them. I probably wonโt listen again.
I liked this more than I expected! Released in 1990, it sits right between 80s hair bands and, like, Nirvana. I would listen again. I felt like someone who goes to record stores listening to this album.
This whole album made me feel ill at ease. Thatโs kind of the point, but itโs not the reason I listen to music. I think these are talented musicians, but I canโt keep from thinking these boys need therapy.
Classic. Very of its time in a good way. Super fun to listen to. It does all start to sound the same though.
I respect it but at the same time I could NOT make myself listen to it.
There are truly some bangers on this album - Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Smooth Criminal. But for me as an album, I think itโs alright.
At first, I was like - why is this on the list? But as the album continued, I began to like the songs better. I get the impression it would land better if I knew what they were saying, but I donโt care enough to look up the words.
Yet another album where I respect what theyโre doing - lots of cool and weird layered sounds going on - but it doesnโt grab me. Feels very of its time, laying the groundwork for later alternative sounds.
Apparently this guy contributed significantly to the Bakersfield sound, which was kind of anti-establishment, in contrast to the big music label sounds coming out of Nashville at the time โฆ but I thought it was just okay.
Some weird gender stuff on the first track (youโve gotta be stronger than me, โare you gay?โ - YIKES), and I didnโt like how it landed on my ear. I prefer the Back to Black album and didnโt finish this one.
This album is so vibey! You canโt help but bop your head and sing along from the first track. Would listen again. :)
At last! I thought I was a hater because I have felt so meh about so many of these albums. Although there werenโt any super memorable ear worms, I would love to have this album on almost any time. I enjoyed listening from the first track.
Iโm just kind of bored listening to this.
This was a pleasant surprise. I kind of felt like I was in a movie about to go on a journey. Iโm not sure I would turn it on to listen without being provoked though.
I really liked the sound. I guess the album tells a big story, and Iโm unclear on how well it holds up.
Makes me feel cool to listen to them. It all sounds very ominous, but make it 80s. Would listen again!
Nostalgic. Bangers. I liked the songs that werenโt hits too.
Classic blues.
Would listen again. :)
