Strong 4.5 for me. Enjoyed this so much more than the first time 2+ years ago. So much character
Complete banger. Every instrument has so much character. Second half of Track D is an emotionally stirring journey.
Decent 4 for me. I enjoy it more so because of how influential things came out of it, rather than the music itself which I feel drags on too long sometimes and is a bit too straight.
Strong 4.5 for me, especially blasting at night with the boys. Hard, groovy, and fat
Pretty fookin nuts. 4.5 for me. Probably my fourth favorite pink album. Crazy groovy and often nostalgic guitars, but doesn’t quite reach the highs of some of the stuff on Dark Side, Wish, and animals for me. Wish I could get into the concept but I’ll leave that for chands
the only thing I’ve listened to from these guys before was super psychedelic. This is more nostalgic and orchestral. Love love love the opening track. Sometimes surprising guitar riffs. I think solid 4.5 for me.
The more you ignore me, the closer I get too crecked. Stripped back instrumentals on vocally/lyrically emphasized albums always come less naturally to me.
This guy has actually mastered groove and funk holy shet. Completely bonkers. Only downside is that the pifano (flute-like thing) can get a bit annoying for me, but that’s only if you focus on it. Oh my the guitars are too funky. This may be a 5 for me w a couple more listens.
Definitely captures jazz club atmosphere. Burger and fries, hashbrowns with that swinging piano, crezy. I love the atmosphere this creates, but seems full enjoyment of this album requires time to listen to what Tom is saying, and like him as a person. 3.5
Chands I haven’t read your review yet, but this is classsss dude. Nice balance between simple melodies and song structures with intricate instrumentation. Captures nostalgia super well. 4.5
My fault too relatable... Jeff Bass and Dre absolutely kill the g-funk, west-coast production. Em is funny as fuck and has such a casual ease to spitting that makes his words even more relatable 4.5
Our first punk record weiii. The first half (A side) is a bit too straight for me, and no chands, not what you're thinking. Straight as in not groovy/nervy enough when comparing to wire, television, etc. The B-side has that nerviness that I like, so will definitely be retuning to that more and more. Havana affair makes me want to overthrow the government (not actually), so so good. This album revealed itself way more second listen, way more melodic and nervy than the first listen. Have a feeling it needs a few more listens, just like Wire - Pink Flag, which took 4+ listens to really enjoy, although I still think that album has more of that nervy/jittery groove that I'm looking for. I don't care as much for the more melodic ballad-type songs on here like "I wanna be your boyfriend". I think punk needs multiple listens until those riffs and lyrics start playing in your head unsolicited. That's when the music starts making more and more sense. 4.5
I rarely ever voluntarily listen to folk, but I really like how instrumentally varied this album is. I hope that I eventually start seeking this stuff.
4. Creck.
Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors actually extremely hard. Love the more jazzy / experimental texts like pulk / pull and dollars and cents
Super instrumentally diverse. Consistently super weird. Creck. The sax in "The New Pollution" too good. Really really love this, except some of the last few tracks, which I didn't find too memorable. 4.5
Used to love this stuff, but there’s a sort of gimmickiness and polish to prog (especially the more symphonic, theatrical stuff) that’s made it less appealing when returning to it
The more proggy tracks are crazy but still need more listens on the free jazz ones. They sound a little bit too free right now 4.5
Holy feck. Some parts of Zopf are absolutely insaneee. We’re back. Reminds me a bit of fishmans instrumentation in lushness and janky guitar sometimes, with this Hawaiian club penguin kind of tint to it. 4.5
