1001 Albums Summary

One of my favourite bands of all time; my very first record ever was The White Album, and it changed my life. Hearing this record makes me reflect on the wonder of chance and fate - that these four young men should find each other, blend their sounds and thoughts and opinions on music - and that the end result would be arguably the most consequential pop music of the 20th century. 1000 stars out of 5.

An album dripping with mid-90s sex and poetry - like Leonard Cohen shredding on a Stratocaster in the nude.

Groundbreaking 80s pop - some monster hits in here. Bonus points if you go listen to New Blood from 2011 - Peter Gabriel’s music at its most stripped back and refined.

Smooth and sultry from the master of soul - if you don’t just turn it off after the hit single, you’re rewarded with minimalist funk and buttery vocals for the rest of the record.

As a Caucasian 39-year-old man, I am legally required to give a Steely Dan album a five star rating.

I can’t believe it took me 35 years to listen to this band for the first time. This album is required listening for any 90s kid.

The kind of album most bands will never even come close to making in their entire career, and this was just the first one Dave released. Still grunge but with a Foo flair.
