Never listened to the whole of The END in it's entirety - don't think I ever will again. The jingle jangly bits are always nice on a sunny day.
OG Outlaw. Marty Robbins my beloved, murder ballads my beloved, songs about cattle my beloved, this album brings me so much joy, Marty's voice and lyrics are always so precise and paint such a clear picture to follow around.
For fun bit of info Chappell Roan gets her name partially from the Strawberry Roan song (her grandpa's favorite song).
Personal favorites : Big iron, They're Hanging me Tonight, The Master's Call, Running Gun, El Paso, Saddle Tramp. Basically any song where someone dies.
To add to the list the Colter Wall version of Big Iron is one of my favorites - the whole Western Swing & Waltzes is a masterpiece and falls into the tradition of this kind of album.
I feel like maybe my mood when listening to an album affects everything - or maybe this album is one I've heard too many times before and it just becomes background noises of the kind I would hear in a shop on high street or on american idol. So sorry to Aretha I just felt today when listening to it that it was all background noise.

An album to bond teen girls and middle aged dads - make a reference to this album on a road trip and you will be raised to the highest levels of approval in dad world logic. Didgeridoo kinda beat that makes you wish you owned a boat.
Not my favorite Elvis - sun studio recordings have a special place in my heart - but still full of cool bangers and covers that show off his vocal range and the great studio session musicians. My main issue is that a lot of time I like the original of the famous covers more. The formulaic structure gets overwhelming after a while. There are highlight singles on the album and then full snoozers.
This album is actually really fun, ridiculous, short, and a good distraction. Though it does get repetitive I can zone out and phase out nicely. Sure it's giving background music I can listen to at work and not want to jump out a window but still.
However I have a deep hate for extended deluxe remastered versions of albums on streaming services that get to a point where you can't even find the original track list on, I refuse to listen to an hour and thirty one minutes of a deluxe album version no one asked for.
I'm so happy to see albums like these on here. Truly an amazing album and is taking me out of feeling stuck. Hero is the standout track for me, could listen that song and its intro over and over again.

Top tier album trully thr storytelling the musicality everything gosh do I love ABBA and this album is a masterpiece
Perfect album - short songs - great lyricism - harmonies - social commentary that could be written today, somehow still feels fresh and did I mention short album and short songs can we bring that back. Faves are: Flowers never bend with the Rainfall, Homeward Bound, A simple Desultry Phillippic (bit gimmicy but I enjoyed the gimmic today perhaps I'm just in a good mood).
Makes me wish I was back in my shroom era the world is one to fully enjoy it more. I can see why it's important and of its time and the impact it's had on a lot of other work I like. Jingle jangle give me a five more minute pan flute water driping break about the cellular world and how we are all one. Enjoyed as a whole don't think I would go back to listen to individual songs though it grew on me after multiple listens. Just feels a bit trite in 2026 maybe or I'm not in the mood to hear the message, I've spent enough time with hippies nicknamed moonstone who hold celestial powers to feel a bit exhausted by it.
Update: I see a glaswegian nicknamed Licorice in the wikipedia page and links to scientology which all things considered makes a lot of sense. Can you believe they didn't even record them for the Woodstock film? Is this band somehow too hippie for Woodstock who would have funk it.
You get the feeling these are some of the worse people you would meet at a houseparty that would try to get you to join their polyamorous commune. I've met glaswegian fire breathers I imagine it's the same feeling.
It's funny how much influence this band has had on other bands and how fresh this still feels weirdly- I feel like I hear Fontaines D.C and Alex Turner's voice on so much of this, something that came out in 1979 but could absolutely come out today it's fun to hear. Though the issue I have then is that I feel that many better albums in this genre were made afterwards and this is not the one I would gravitate to naturally.
One of my pet peaves is with Reissues of albums goddam i want to listen to the original 11 tracks please why is there all of a sudden an additionnal 14 hours of songs added on with no distinction.
God I don't think I'll ever get the appeal of Beck - is it a generational thing like John Mayer and the Dave Matthews Band where you had to be there to get it? Just mumbling white men left and right. I went into this with a positive mindset but my god do I hate this album I could barely get through it.
The music in itself is beautiful but his voice, the mumbling, the lyrics god it's like a little bit of everything and a whole lot of nothing. I don't know why this made me so mad. I initially didn't dislike it as much but as the day went n it grated me more and more.
'And I was strong, strong in the sun' and 'you can take the road that takes you to the stars now I can take the road that'll see me through' are truly some of my favourite lyrics from when I first heard them years ago they still hit the same way. Truly a perfect album in very way it always brings me such joy to listen to.
My favorites are Bemsha Swing and Ba-Lue Bolivar Ba-Lues-Are I think. It's hard for me to rate Jazz or have much to say about it in a sense - I would have never guessed this came out in the 50s with how modern it sounds. Though for me this is a one time listen or background I don't think I could imagine myself casually wanting to revisit this album often which is why i would rate it the way I do.
The first song scared me a bit not gonna lie I wasn't fully enjoying it, I guess this is George Harrison goes country. My big pet peeve is when they do re-editions of albums or 50th anniversary things and now the album ends up being 28 song long and lasts for two hours with different recordings of same songs...it's frustrating to struggle to find the original. In the end it all started sounding a bit repetitive to me because of it and I struggled to get through it - 2 hours is too long!
Now this is exciting!!! This album is so fun to be honest after the rest of the listens of this week it feels very envigorating - you can see the impact it's had on modern riot grrrl (even if the term is overplayed) music at large - deceptacon as a song and as an opening track is legendary in itself and just trully a perfect track. My my metrocard is also one of my favorites. I think it's also exciting to me to hear songs not about love for a bit - it's nice to see other topics being explored it just feels so much more relevant to my actual life.

I was already in a bad mood and then the generator pulled this U2 album out for me which took me to an even worse mental place on a monday morning - I managed four songs in goddam it do I hate U2, is this a generational thing? Is there anyone out there in the world who genuinely has U2 as their favorite band? How did they ever get this big - I can't believe the amount of opportunities we have given boring white men over the years in the music industry to end up with this shit.
Is this the height of dad band? I don't even think it's worthy of a dad band label. Bono's voice is grating, the lyrics are all waffle and the music is just background tracklists for a supermarket isle - it's so inoffensive that it turns back around and becomes grating. This came out in 1987 are you kidding me??? Imagine the caliber of music that was made at that time and this is the shit they were coming out with - U2s take on americana my ass they should've just stayed home.
