Big fan of David Byrne and the Talking Heads in general. Had not heard this album before but it's filled with the groovy beats and quirky guitar licks I crave. Would listen again
This was solid. First listen didn't really impress me much but it grew on me more on my second listen. Some of the synth work is pretty great and even gives off some vaporware vibes at times. Enjoyed Hit Music and It's a Sin quite a bit. Don't think lyrics really landed for me but I usually barely register the lyrics for most music. Probably not gonna make it into any of my playlists.
Punk lite? Proto pop punk? Feels like Tom Petty trying out some alt rock and punk. Slide Guitar from Hannah & Gabi seems really out of place on the album. It was fine but not really my thing.
Classic/5
One of the greatest metal albums of all time. Filled with absolute bangers with a sprinkling of psych rock and blues. The guitar tones throughout this album are perfect and nostalgic. Will continue to be in rotation.
Some incredible production and compositions on this album. Defined the sound of west coast hip hop. Album does feel a little bloated and the skits didn't really land for me so not quite a 5/5 but was a fun listen.
I was really surprised by this one. I'd heard her name before but was unfamiliar with her music. Looking at her spotify now I definitely recognize some of the top singles.
I wasn't sure what to make of this album at first but Pull Out the Pin hooked me. The production is really interesting despite using some synths and drums that sound pretty dated at this point. There's a lot of interesting ideas here and Kate's performances on many of the songs convey a lot of emotion which was really engaging for me.
I've already listened to the album a couple times and I definitely wanna get blasted and listen to it again.
Didn't do much for me on first listen.
Certified classic. I listened to this on my walkman in middle school every day. So many bangers including some of the deeper cuts. Main critique is it's a bit bloated at 21 songs and 77min. Probably could have gotten the same impact at 14/15 songs.
Some of the best rock songs ever made are on this album, but I was surprised how little the rest of the album did for me. It all felt very samey and even a bit tacky. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this yesterday. I was between 3 and 4 stars and I could see myself going either way if you asked me tomorrow.
Tweaking my rating scale a bit. Realized I was centering the 1-5 on 3 being ok/indifferent but I generally skew more positive on average so all my ratings were really 3-5.
I was mostly indifferent to this album. Walk This Way is overplayed and was never a favorite to begin with. I do actually like Sweet Emotion a lot and is definitely my highlight of the album. Big Ten Inch Record is cringe. Rest of the album is forgettable.
Prog Rock and really any genre with 10min+ songs can be really hit or miss for me. I got a be in the right mood/headspace for the musical journey to grab me or else it's background music at best and a tiring/annoying experience at worst.
Yesterday I listened to this while doing some work around the house and I generally enjoyed it and even liked some sections.
Today I relistened and was hooked. Really felt the flow of energy through each song. Loved the vocals, the organ in the second song, the grooves, the sense of scale and journey, the whole package (save for a couple of the more sonically dissonant moments that always find their way into these kinds of albums). Really liked it, will prob listen again when I'm in the mood for this kind of thing.
Big fan of Rod Stewart. New some of the Faces big singles but hadn't listened to an album all the way through. Enjoyed this one quite a bit when Rod was singing. Lot of energy, fun guitars with a killer tone to them. The songs where Rod wasn't singing felt a little flatter to me making the whole thing good but inconsistent. That's All You Need was especially great and reminded me of Led Zeppelin. This was very close to a 4 for me.
Listen, I played this while making dinner last night just to humor this website. I fully expected to hate this album because it is not my jam. And I didn't love it, but it grew on me throughout the length of the album. Like it's so over the top and dramatic, but also slaps like a little bit? It's like a bad joke that's so bad it's funny. It's a caricature of itself. It insists upon itself. But it also knows what it's doing and you have to appreciate it for that.
Perhaps I'm just uncultured but this didn't do it for me. Pretty minimal instrumentation, some songs only percussion, lot of repetition in both vocals and music. Sonically didn't sound bad and would be good background music but just wasn't that interesting.
This feels like a very polarizing album. I started listening to it in the morning and was NOT feeling it. Was actively annoying me and felt hokey. Then listened to it after the gym, sun out, windows down, and I was jammin. Could have been a 2/5, coulda been a 4/5, figured I'd split the difference
I could see this being a 3/5 on another day but wasn't doing anything for me this time around.
Generally enjoyed it. Some interesting parts throughout, I really liked Infinite Space in particular. Are You Ready Eddy seemed like it didn't belong, vibe was way different. Didn't like that as a closer.
Enjoyed the album. Never gonna complain when the Stones are playing, but also not much stood out as being particularly great.
This will hopefully be the last time I have to listen to this album. Being a millennial who grew up in the peak of emo and pop punk I have to say, I've never gotten the appeal. The term "Pop Punk" itself feels like an oxymoron. The album is just painfully boring, too long, and way overplayed. Just not a fan of this album or Green Day or Pop Punk in general.
Never heard of the Happy Mondays but I enjoyed this a lot. Definitely felt very 80s but also had a lot of interesting sounds. Would definitely listen again. Also Spotify only has the Collector's Edition which has a bunch of remixes and some of those slap pretty hard too.
I actually fuck with this more than I thought. Feels very mood dependent and not something I could just throw on any time but I had fun with this. Also thought of how crazy this must have sounded in 1976 when it came out. Cool shit.
Honestly thought I would like this a lot more but I guess I was only familiar with their big singles and never really listened to a whole album. Was just ok.
Not what I was expecting from the Beach Boys. It was alright.
Was a little unsure at first but I thought a lot of the songs were very pretty. Didn't finish though.
I haven't listened to a lot of Bjork but I know she's weird and I generally like weird. The album started off pretty slow, wasn't sure if I was feelin it at first. Then it started to find it's groove, I was in the zone. It continued to ramp up til the end. Last song reminded me a bit of her collab with Death Grips on The Powers That B as well. Overall really enjoyed it. Would maybe have done a 3.5/5 if I could.
There's honestly not a single skip for me from Led Zeppelin I - IV. Incredible album from one of my favorite bands of all time. I have listened to this countless times and it will continue to be in rotation
Wasn't super familiar with Brian Eno's work but could immediately hear David Byrne's influence and I'm a big Byrne fan. I liked a lot of this. It was weird, silly, but a lot of it was catchy. On the back half of the album I felt like it slowed down a lot and I lost interest but the first half I probably would have given a 4/5
I actually hadn't listened to this album before, tho I recognized a couple tracks. I really enjoyed this. The tracks weren't overly complicated but we're catchy, had great tone and composition. RIP to one of the greats.
Wasn't sure how I felt about this initially but it grew on me. It especially took a while to get used to the vocals for some reason but in the end I enjoyed the album. Would probably listen again to see if it's better the second time
