This is a fairly solid Album that I used to listen to quite often when it was released. Kind of the beginning of the more modern blues-rock / Sleaze rock popularity boom in my opinion, at least to get really popular in mainstream media.
Everlasting Light, Tighten Up, Howlin' For You, and Too Afraid to Love are my top songs on the album.
Okay album. But I personally am kinda bored listening to it. Production is phenomenal. I just dont ever find myself wanting to listen to Bruce Springsteen in general. "This song is NINE MINUTES LONG?!"
I'd much rather be listening to Dire Straits.
Stand out song is the title track "born to run".
This is the most 90s pop sounding 2000s jazzpop album, and not in a good way.
The production between songs is pretty inconsistent.
Pretty sure this is her first release... as each song goes on it sounds like Amy Winehouse is discovering that she sounds like Amy Winehouse.
Ohhh doing a reggae thing now?...nope we've changed direction after the first verse, just the music has a reggae feel.
Stand out songs:... Fuck Me Pumps... otherwise, they all sounded the same.
The 60s era pre rock is something that over the years has become a little boring to me as I had friends that only listened to music from the era. That being said this album surprisingly caught my attention and held it. It's a little ahead of its time while still living in the 60s - early 70s.
I'd like to find rubbish album pre 2005 remastered since the sound stage sounds cool, Being able to locate each instrument inside of the room is super cool. I like the placement of the vocals, each one has their own spot in the room, right, center and left.
The guitar tones are fantasti. Guinnevere guitar gives me a mild modern midwest emo feel.
Wooden ships has a cool bass line, super catchy.
Stand out tracks: guinnevere, you don't have to cry, pre road downs, wooden ships, song with no words
This album doesn't resonate with me at all. Just because an album came from the 60s doesn't mean that is automatically good. I kind of struggled my way through this one.
This album is not one that resonates with me. Madonna just isn't something I listen to or ever go out of my way for. I'm just not a fan personally. That being said, this album sits right at the end of the nineties and doesn't feel like it ever left the nineties. I feel like this album is a major influence for some more modern pop, but the album itself is a time capsule for the year 1998. Overall, this album feels like a mediocre sci-fi / rom-com that takes place in a yoga studio film score from someone who has never seen a sci-fi
As the album progresses it just get more and more boring..... there is no need for this to be over an hour long.
Stand out tracks:
Swim - Feels like I'm watching a straight to VHS rom-com.
Ray of Light - It's a little catchy and sounds like an anthem for another straight to VHS coming of age or rom com film
Skin - The music feels like playing play station 1...... but then Madonna is just kind of singing over it
Sky Fits Heaven - is one of my least favorite songs I have ever heard
Shanti / Ashtangi - Feels like it does not belong on this album
This album drags on for way too long. 11 minutes for a song that starts with a looped track then just keeeeeeps goiiiiiinnnngggggggg. This album might have been good if you grew up in the 60s and 70s and were on LSD when this album released.
The Deluxe album has extended versions, and I promise it is not worth the extra time to listen to the same loop for an extra 3 minutes per song.
It is quiet and repetitive, so maybe as background noise but it also feels too abrasive to not pay attention to.
There is no flow between tracks. this album is just 20 different ideas mashed into over an hour of music.
Dieses Album ist wirklich schlecht
Stand out tracks:
The Sad Skin Head - Started out strong then was kind of just meh.
Jennifer - The first one minute was okay.... the middle 5 minutes was too many minutes... the last minute was unexpected and a nice change of pace.
Giggy Smile - is the first time on this album that I felt like I was listening to a song that had thought put into it and not just a few guys in a studio for the first time playing with all the equipment.... oh no, one of them found a saxophone laying around. and they all forgot they were playing a song together. it just ends abruptly after 4 minutes of the same loop....
It's a bit of a pain - soothing..... and then its not. they discovered more knobs on the tape recorder that makes it make weird noises that don't belong in the song.
It's like the Beatles if you somehow did more drugs
I have no idea how many times I listened to this album. It is one of the albums that defined my child hood and helped mold my taste in music.
stand out tracks: All of them, there isn't a bad song on this album
This was a really fun album to listen to. Learning that he was the original vocalist and started this more punk, ska, psychobilly influential solo project after leaving the Pixies in the 90s. With out knowing, one of his songs helped mold my taste with it being in of my favorite video games, Tony Hawk - American wasteland - Los Angeles.
Frank Black is an artist that I will be returning to actively listen to more of.
Stand out tracks:
Whatever Happened to Pong?
Thalassocracy
(I Want To Live On An) Abstract Pain
Two Reelers
Fazer Eyes
Space Is Gonna Do Me Good
Aside from the hits I haven't really explored the discography of Talking Heads. Off the bat I don't recognize any titles aside from Psycho Killer. As I progress through the album, I find it kind of boring, bland with a very monotone feeling to it.
Stand out tracks:
Tentative Decisions
Psycho Killer
This album surprised me. it is not what I expected it would be.
I need to revisit this album and give it a proper review.
Stand out songs:
Rolling
Piano Joint (intro)
Piano Joint
Another Human Being
Final Days
I have heard of Slint but have not spent any length of time listening to them. This is an influential artist for the early hardcore influenced shoegaze bands, some of the members even splitting off to start hardcore bands. using barely intune guitars to their advantage creating a lot of dissonance in their riffs when using the clean tones. Vocals are raw and meant to tell a story through the six lengthy tracks. Listening to one song out of context would not serve any justice, you need to listen to the whole album front to back to really appreciate this.
Some classic americana/folk rock with some jazz breaks... this genre is usually hit or miss with me. I don't do out of my way to listen to it, let alone Van Morison. That being said, this album does not resonate with me, however, on a technical level, production on the album is fantastic. It is very well put together and mixed perfectly. I can see why it is a loved album.
Stand out tracks:
Moondance - I actually knew this song
Caravan - I really like where the instruments sit in the mix
Production is good for a live performance. I like hearing some of the background noise, makes it feel like a truly live performance. However, an hour of solo piano after about 15 minutes becomes noise to me. Kieth is a phenomenal pianist, and this performance does a good job of displaying his ability as a classical musician while mixing in some of the performative Jazz Piano.
